The final week of the WPIAL football regular season is here, and a slew of teams will have their postseason fate determined by the results of this weekend. Three Westmoreland County teams – Penn-Trafford, Southmoreland, and Jeannette – have already clinched postseason berths, while at least seven others still have a realistic shot to qualify for the playoffs. Here’s a detailed look at all of the games across the county in Week Nine.
Mount Lebanon (2-7, 2-3) at Norwin (6-3, 3-2) – 7 p.m.

About the Blue Devils: Patrick Smith sparked host Mount Lebanon to a 28-6 home victory against Hempfield Area in Class 6A last Friday. Smith rushed 19 times for 200 yards and three scores for the Blue Devils, while he added 67 yards through the air. On the season, Smith has rushed 200 times for 1,170 yards, scoring 13 times on the ground, while he’s completed 91-of-190 throws for 1,034 yards, with four TDs and nine interceptions. Max Siegel is the top receiver with 21 receptions for 281 yards. The Blue Devils have been outscored by a margin of 247-140 on the year. Veteran coach Greg Perry leads Mount Lebanon.
About the Knights: A Tristan Josephic field goal in the waning seconds gave host Norwin a 24-21 victory against Canon-McMillan in Class 6A play last week. Josephic’s 29-yard kick came with nine seconds left, capping a 12-play drive for the Knights. QB Tristyn Tavares hit on 14-of-23 passes for 118 yards, while he compiled 15 carries for 126 yards and two scores on the ground. For the year, Tristyn Tavares has hit on 71-of-144 throws for 890 yards, with 11 touchdowns and four picks, while he’s amassed 705 yards on the ground and a team-high 11 scores. Giovanni Rothrauff paces the Knights with 205 carries for 1,159 yards, scoring nine times. On the campaign, the Knights have posted a scoring margin of 265-173.
About the Matchup: While the Knights clinch third place in Class 6A with a victory, the Blue Devils would leapfrog Norwin with a win. Norwin can still clinch a playoff berth with a loss if Canon-McMillan loses against Pittsburgh Central Catholic.
Greater Latrobe (2-7, 1-4) at Penn-Trafford (8-1, 4-1) – 7:30 p.m.

About the Wildcats: Greater Latrobe suffered a narrow 27-24 loss at home against Gateway in the Class 5A Big East Conference last Friday. Dom Scarton threw for 157 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats. Danny Noonan notched an interception return score, while Sawyer Butina contributed a kickoff return TD for GL. For the season, Scarton has hit on 73-of-166 throws for 837 yards, with three TDs and six interceptions. Sawyer Butina and Aaron Gaskey each have caught 18 passes for the Wildcats, while Chris Cochran has posted 54 carries for 260 yards. For 2025, Williamson has hit on 91-of-146 throws for 1,274 yards, with 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while he’s rushed 112 times for 830 yards, scoring a team-best 14 TDs. Gardner leads Trinity with 121 carries for 991 yards, notching eight touchdowns. The Hillers, who have won four in a row, boast a scoring margin of 293-198 for the year. Coach Dan Knause patrols the sidelines for Trinity.
About the Leopards: Belle Vernon Area scored on every possession, rolling to a 48-6 victory at home against Ringgold in the Class 4A Big Six Conference last week. Curty Wade paced the Leopards, as he hit 7-of-13 throws for 110 yards and a TD, while adding 103 yards and two scores on the ground. Chace Petrosky added 16 carries for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns. For 2025, Wade has completed 68-of-107 throws for 908 yards, with four TDs and seven interceptions, while he’s compiled 439 yards on the ground and nine scores. Petrosky, meanwhile, has amassed 778 yards rushing on 100 carries, also reaching the end zone nine times. Anthony Dicenzo leads BVA with 23 grabs for 332 yards. Despite a losing record, the Leopards have outscored their foes by a margin of 187-174.
About the Matchup: Trinity has already secured the Class 4A Big Six Conference crown, while the Leopards must win to keep their hopes alive for the wild card berth. Last season, the Hillers claimed a 31-21 victory.
Yough (2-7, 0-4) at Derry Area (5-4, 2-2) – 7 p.m.

Johnny Gergely contributed a 1-yard touchdown run for the Cougars, who dropped their seventh in a row. On the season, Gergely has posted 115 carries for 501 yards, scoring four times. Ryan Sarver leads Yough with 29 grabs spanning 346 yards. QB Aiden Shaffer has thrown for 504 yards, with four scores and eight interceptions, and he’s added 83 carries for 464 yards and a team-best five touchdowns. Yough has been outpaced 341-90 on the season, and the Cougars have not topped seven points or allowed fewer than 40 points in any of their losses.
About the Trojans: Derry Area claimed a crucial 33-13 win at home against Mount Pleasant Area in the Class 3A Interstate Conference last Friday. Max Doherty accumulated 118 yards rushing and a score for the Trojans, while Anthony Sacco registered 161 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns to Max Doperak. On the campaign, Doherty has 183 carries for 1,070 yards, scoring 16 times, while Sacco has hit on 52-of-117 throws for 891 yards, with nine TDs and eight interceptions. Karsen Weiers is the top pass catcher for the Trojans, snagging 18 receptions for 331 yards.
About the Matchup: While the Cougars are eliminated from the playoffs, the Trojans would secure a playoff berth with a victory or a loss by Mount Pleasant Area. Last year, Yough rolled to a 55-14 victory in the season finale for both teams.

About the Raiders: Riverview was overmatched in a 66-0 home loss against Clairton in a Class 1A Eastern Conference tilt last Saturday. Prior to that lopsided setback, Connor Kmetz completed 64-of-114 attempts for 852 yards, with 11 scores. Also on the campaign, Kaden Levy had produced 52 carries for 449 yards, scoring a dozen TDs, while Miles Duncan had posted 49 carries for 335 yards, and Max Kratt had caught 24 passes for 291 yards, scoring six touchdowns. The Raiders, who have lost three in a row, have narrowly been outscored on the season, 236-232. Coach Trevor George is at the helm of Riverview.
About the Jayhawks: With Jayce Powell leading the way, Jeannette steamrolled past host Springdale 50-8 in the Class 1A Eastern Conference last Friday. Powell caught three passes for 122 yards and two scores, while he added a punt return touchdown for the Jayhawks. Moreover, Kymon’e Brown completed 8-of-13 throws for 170 yards and two scores, while he rushed three times for 30 yards and another TD. On the campaign, Brown has thrown for 1,421 yards, with 14 TDs and five picks, while he’s rushed 88 times for 787 yards, scoring 13 times. Powell, meanwhile, has notched 37 receptions for 784 yards, accumulating 11 TDs. The Jayhawks hold a scoring advantage of 287-211 on the year.
About the Matchup: While Riverview has a glimmer of hope for a wild card berth, Jeannette has already clinched and is locked into third place from the Class 1A Eastern Conference. A year ago, the Jayhawks scored a 34-20 victory.
Franklin Regional (1-8, 0-5) at Armstrong (3-6, 2-3) – 7 p.m.
About the Panthers: Franklin Regional was overmatched in a 55-7 road loss against Woodland Hills in a Class 5A Big East Conference matchup last week. The lone score for the Panthers came on a 75-yard kickoff return score by Jaymier Austin. In 2025, Jet Taylor has led FR with 166 carries for 670 yards and five TDs, all team-highs, while QB Dominick Devola has completed 55-of-123 throws for 588 yards, with four touchdowns and six interceptions. Franklin Regional is averaging just 13.0 points per game, the worst in the conference.
About the River Hawks: Penn-Trafford claimed a convincing 42-7 win at home against Armstrong in the Class 5A Big East Conference last week. Jaydon Oliver threw for 140 yards and a TD in the loss for the River Hawks. On the campaign, Oliver has passed for 1,201 yards, with six TDs and six interceptions, and he’s also rushed for 338 yards and five TDs. Quinton Olsen is having a prolific season, snagging 66 receptions for 789 yards and eight scores. The River Hawks are permitting 34.1 points per contest, the worst mark among teams in the conference. Longtime coach Frank Fabian continues to oversee Armstrong.
About the Matchup: While the Panthers are eliminated from the postseason discussion, Armstrong seeks a win to remain in wild card consideration. Last year, Franklin Regional narrowly prevailed, 29-26.
Woodland Hills (7-2, 5-0) at Kiski Area (4-5, 3-2) – 7 p.m.
About the Wolverines: Woodland Hills overwhelmed Franklin Regional in a 55-7 outcome in a Class 5A Big East Conference matchup last week. Taylor Reid posted three rushing TDs for the Wolverines, who clinched the conference crown. For the season, Reid has compiled 118 carries for 976 yards, and he’s found paydirt 16 times. Scoop Smith has posted 41 receptions for 729 yards, and he’s also tallied 16 TDs. Quarterback Cam Walter has passed for 1,373 yards, with a dozen touchdowns and four picks. The Wolverines have outpaced their adversaries by a margin of 357-179. Brian Tarrant serves as the helm of Woodland Hills.
About the Cavaliers: Three interceptions doomed Kiski Area, which blew a second-half lead in a 29-12 loss at Plum in a Class 5A nonconference clash last Friday. Quarterback Landyn Artman went 13-of-24 passing for 178 yards and a TD for the Cavaliers, but committed three turnovers. Andrew Finney added an 85-yard touchdown reception for KA. For the year, Artman has thrown for 1,225 yards and 14 touchdowns, along with five interceptions. Aven Shirley has caught 22 passes for 465 yards, and rushed 35 times for 269 yards, totaling a team-best seven scores, and he’s also thrown for 145 yards and two scores, along with three picks. Additionally, Teegan Shirley has posted 24 catches for 403 yards, scoring five touchdowns.
About the Matchup: While the Wolverines are already the Class 5A Big East Conference champs, they are potentially in line for a first-round bye with a victory. Kiski Area would clinch third place and a playoff berth with a win, or if Armstrong defeats Franklin Regional. Last year, Woody High reigned supreme 24-6.
Greensburg Salem (3-6, 1-3) at Southmoreland (8-1, 3-1) – 7 p.m.
About the Golden Lions: Brody Chismar had another big game to lead host Greensburg Salem to a 41-7 win against Yough last Friday. Chismar amassed 220 yards passing and three scores, adding 96 yards on the ground, while Max Topper caught nine passes for 139 yards and two TDs for the Golden Lions. Braydon Miller added three grabs for 63 yards and a score for GS. On the year, Chismar has completed 95-of-177 throws for 1,322 yards, with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions, and he also leads GS with 128 carries for 477 yards. Max Topper has caught 34 passes for 392 yards and six scores, while Jackson Stevey has added 21 receptions for 200 yards.
About the Scotties: In a battle for first place in the Class 3A Interstate Conference, Southmoreland was overwhelmed at home in a 42-0 loss against Elizabeth Forward last Friday. In suffering the first loss of the season, QB Dawson Wolfe went 6-of-19 passing for 102 yards for Southmoreland. For the year, Wolfe has passed for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns, along with four interceptions. Averyon Darnell has contributed 87 carries for 472 yards rushing, while Jackson Mickens has compiled 78 carries for 418 yards and scored a team-best 10 touchdowns. On the year, the Scotties have outpaced their opponents 273-91.
About the Matchup: Greensburg Salem is locked into a fifth-place finish in the Class 3A Interstate Conference, but a win could give GS an outside shot at wild card consideration. The Scotties, meanwhile, have already clinched the playoffs and are locked into second place in the conference. A year ago, the Golden Lions edged Southmoreland 28-21.
Mount Pleasant Area (5-4, 2-2) at Elizabeth Forward (8-1, 4-0) – 7 p.m.
About the Vikings: Mount Pleasant Area suffered a crucial 33-13 setback at Derry Area in the Class 3A Interstate Conference last Friday. In the defeat for the Vikings, Richard Shawley had five catches spanning 64 yards. For the season, Stephen Predajna leads the Vikes with 106 carries for 522 yards and nine total touchdowns. Quarterback Dane Firmstone has completed 48-of-100 attempts for 602 yards, with four TD and five interceptions, and he’s added 301 yards and seven scores on the ground. About the Warriors: In a battle for first place in the Class 3A Interstate Conference, Elizabeth Forward reigned supreme over Southmoreland 42-0 last Friday. EF quarterback Ryan Messina rushed 22 times for 193 yards and three TDs, while he completed 14-of-19 throws for 160 yards for the Warriors. Meanwhile, Landon Honick caught five passes for 44 yards. Messina has connected on 115-of-163 throws for 1,715 yards, with 19 touchdowns, and he’s accumulated 682 yards rushing and 10 scores on the ground. Honick has racked up 35 receptions for 553 yards, scoring eight times, while Rocco Thompson has rushed for 390 yards and 10 scores. The Warriors boast a scoring edge of 406-89. Coach Johnny DeMarco patrols the sidelines for EF.
About the Matchup: For the Vikings to finish third and clinch a postseason berth, they must claim a win, coupled with a loss by Derry Area. Mount Pleasant could still be in the discussion for a wild card berth with a fourth-place finish. Elizabeth Forward, conversely, has already secured the conference title. A year ago, the Warriors cruised to a 56-26 victory.
Deer Lakes (2-7, 1-4) at Burrell (3-6, 2-3) – 7 p.m.
About the Lancers: Valley fell 29-14 to Deer Lakes in a Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference tilt last Friday. Evan Moore registered a pair of touchdowns for the Lancers. On the season, Dante Mangieri has thrown for 1,033 yards, with seven TDs but 13 interceptions. The Lancers have been outscored 288-122 on the season. Tim Burk is the veteran leader of Deer Lakes.
About the Buccaneers: Burrell had no answer for Gabe Jenkins, who led Imani Christian Academy to a lopsided 53-7 victory in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference last Friday. Trey Coury posted the only TD for the Buccaneers on a 23-yard run. On the year, signalcaller Antonio Perkins has completed 70-of-133 attempts for 696 yards, and he’s rushed 179 times for 1,292 yards, scoring 18 times on the ground. Coury has added 152 attempts for 667 yards and five touchdowns. Burrell has been outscored 303-173 in 2025.
About the Matchup: The winner of the matchup will finish in fourth place in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference, keeping alive the hopes for a wild card spot. A year ago, the Lancers smashed the Bucs 56-0.
Valley (0-9, 0-5) at Highlands (6-3, 4-1) – 7 p.m.
About the Vikings: Despite a pair of touchdown passes from Brendon Knuckles, homestanding Valley fell 29-14 to Deer Lakes in a Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference tilt last week. Knuckles’ scores went to Shawn Wilkerson and Raydon Thomas for the Vikings. Wilkerson is the only player on Valley with multiple touchdowns on the season, scoring thrice. Valley has been outscored 330-82 on the year.
About the Golden Rams: Highlands claimed a 38-12 home victory against McGuffey is a nonconference battle one week ago. Tevin Owen-Cratsenberg rushed 17 times for 228 yards and a pair of scores, while Jahmar Wright caught five passes for 153 yards and three TDs. In 2025, Owen-Cratsenberg has amassed 1,073 yards rushing and scored 21 times. Matt Bonislawski serves as the head coach of Highlands.
Ligonier Valley (1-8, 0-5) at Apollo-Ridge (6-3, 4-1) – 7 p.m.
About the Rams: Ligonier Valley was overmatched by Steel Valley and Da’Ron Barksdale in a 49-0 defeat in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference last Friday. In the defeat, Levi Foust passed for 64 yards and an interception, and he added 13 carries for 52 yards. Greyson Daugherty accumulated four receptions for 60 yards. For the campaign, Foust has thrown for 432 yards, with three TDs but nine interceptions, and he’s rushed 101 times for 619 yards, scoring six times. About the Vikings: Apollo-Ridge outlasted host South Park 45-34 one week ago in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference. Alexander Clawson hit on 6-of-8 passes for 162 yards and two scores, adding 91 yards on the ground and another touchdown. Meanwhile, Jaden McCray caught three passes for 113 yards and a TD, and he also rushed five times for 28 yards, finding the end zone. For the campaign, Clawson has amassed 1,174 yards through the air, along with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. McCray has caught 35 passes for 670 yards, totaling a team-best 13 touchdowns. Leechburg Area (6-2, 4-1) at Greensburg Central Catholic (4-5, 2-4) – 7 p.m.
About the Blue Devils: Leechburg Area won a shootout against Brentwood last week, 48-41, in the Class 1A Eastern Conference. Tim Andrasy posted another eye-opening stat line, rushing 39 times for 348 yards and five touchdowns. On the season, Andrasy has 192 carries for 1,505 yards and has scored 24 touchdowns. The Blue Devils have outpaced their foes 259-174 on the campaign. Randy Walters patrols the sidelines for Leechburg.
About the Centurions: Greensburg Central Catholic’s late two-point conversion attempt was denied, as the Centurions fell at home to Frazier 35-33 in a Class 1A Eastern Conference battle one week ago. Samir Crosby produced a late fumble recovery TD for the Centurions. On the year, Crosby has rushed 74 times for 724 yards, caught 19 passes for 267 yards, and scored 16 total TDs, while he’s also hit on 15-of-33 passes for 255 yards, tossing three touchdowns. Jerry Davis has scored five touchdowns, kicked three field goals, and converted 23 extra points. GCC has outscored the opposition 249-212.
About the Matchup: While Leechburg has already secured a playoff berth and is likely locked into second place in the Class 1A Eastern Conference, the Centurions could finish as high as fifth with a win, and remain in contention for a wild card bid. Last year, GCC scored a 20-16 victory.
Cornell (5-4, 2-3) at Monessen (5-4, 2-3) – 7 p.m.
About the Raiders: Cornell came up just short at home against Chartiers-Houston 27-26 last Friday in the Class 1A Black Hills Conference. For the season, Khylil Johnson has been the offensive catalyst for the Raiders, as he’s rushed for 1,122 yards, added 363 yards receiving, and has notched 16 total touchdowns. Ed Dawson serves as the head coach of Cornell.
About the Greyhounds: Monessen was on the wrong end of a 44-7 outcome against Bishop Canevin in a Class 1A Black Hills Conference game last week. Tavian Taylor notched a 43-yard TD run for the host Greyhounds.
Gateway (3-6, 3-3) at Hempfield Area (4-5, 1-5) – 7 p.m.
About the Gators: Gateway edged homestanding Greater Latrobe 27-24 in a Class 5A Big East Conference tilt one week ago. Mayson Mitchell paced the Gators, throwing for 261 yards and three TDs. On the year, Mitchell has hit on 132-of-211 attempts for 1,661 yards, with 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. SJ Moorefield has caught 55 passes for 804 yards, scoring eight times. Julian Dancear anchors the rushing attack, registering 96 carries for 606 yards. On the year, the Gators have been outscored by a margin of 292-201. Don Holl is the decorated head coach of Gateway.
About the Spartans: Hempfield Area could not contain Patrick Smith, who sparked host Mount Lebanon to a 28-6 victory in Class 6A last week. In the defeat, Dom Detruf went 27-of-48 passing for 239 yards and a score for the Spartans, as he connected with Aidan Stinebiser on a 7-yard pass for the lone TD. For the season, Detruf has completed 146-of-224 throws, spanning 1,905 yards, along with 18 touchdowns and 10 picks. Jack Kopas has produced 52 receptions for 656 yards, scoring a team-high nine TDs.
