Westmoreland County baseball game recaps from Tuesday, April 28th 2026:

Hempfield Area 10 Woodland Hills 6

Hempfield Area scored five runs in the seventh inning to help pull away from Woodland Hills and secure a 10-6 Section 2-6A victory. It was a big game for Chase Sikorski as he had two hits, including a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Spartans (9-9, 6-5). Ian Kovalcik also homered while Anthony More and Evan Dunlap each drove in two. Lucas Simmons allowed three runs in five innings to pick up the win on the mound. He struck out five. Aaron Concepcion doubled and scored twice for the Wolverines (4-11, 0-11).

Mount Lebanon 4 Norwin 1

Mount Lebanon struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added one more in the fourth en route to a 4-1 win over Norwin in Section 2-6A. The Knights scored their lone run in the seventh inning on a RBI single from Liam O'Donnell which drove in Josh Funk who led off the frame with a triple. Funk finished with two hits for Norwin (11-6, 7-4). James Golden collected two hits and scored a run for the Blue Devils (12-5, 7-4).

Franklin Regional 5 Plum 4

A bases loaded walk drawn by Evan Meeker in the bottom of the seventh inning brought home the winning run for Franklin Regional in a key 5-4 Section 1-5A triumph over Plum. After the Mustangs tied the game at 4-4 with a two-out single by Monaco in the top of the seventh, the Panthers responded as Luke Williams reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the inning. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, Plum chose to intentionally walk the next two batters to load the bases. That's when Plum pitcher Huff walked Meeker to score Williams and end the game. Tim Pirone hit a two-run homer in the third inning for Franklin Regional (13-4, 7-3). Anthony Mitchell earned the win in relief allowing one run in two innings. In addition to Monaco, Vollmer also drove in a run for the Mustangs (14-2, 8-2).

Penn-Trafford 13 Kiski Area 1

Penn-Trafford went off for six runs in the third inning as the Warriors bested Kiski Area 13-1 in a Section 1-5A match up. Aiden Drotos stole the show on the mound as he struck out 15 batters allowing one run in a complete game victory. Tanner DeStefano had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs plus walked three times for Penn-Trafford (12-5, 8-2). Colton Tyburski added three hits while Austin Kovarik went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Zach Zollinger singled in the lone run for the Cavaliers (4-10, 3-7).

Greater Latrobe 8 Armstrong 4

Greater Latrobe built up a 5-0 lead through two innings and made it stand, beating Armstrong 8-4 in Section 1-5A play. Grady Ruffner doubled twice, brought in a pair of runs and scored three times to power the Wildcats (16-2, 8-2). Noah Noel had three hits, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored while Ty Wisniewski added two hits and scored three runs. Aaron Gaskey was the winning pitcher striking out eight batters in five innings. Owen Crissman had a double and two RBIs for the Riverhawks (4-13, 2-10).

Belle Vernon 11 Albert Gallatin 1 (6 innings)

Belle Vernon leaped in front with four runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Albert Gallatin 11-1 in six innings, winning a Section 2-4A contest. Zach Plymire recorded three hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Leopards (12-3, 8-2). Nate Kostelnik also doubled finishing with two hits and two RBIs. Chace Petrosky added two hits and three runs scored for BVA. Plymire gave up just one run in six innings as he took the victory on the mound. Nico Edwards' RBI single in the second inning accounted for the only run for the Colonials (1-15, 0-12).

Knoch 10 Derry Area 3

Derry Area fell short in a battle of playoff-bound teams, as homestanding Knoch scored a 10-3 victory in Section 3-4A. In the loss for the Trojans (7-9, 4-6), Cason Long doubled and produced two RBIs. For Knoch, Dante Pelloni collected three hits and three RBIs, while Mason Heller and Kaden Dreher each went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Knights (12-5, 7-3).

Greensburg Salem 7 Highlands 6

Colin Doyle’s big day carried Greensburg Salem to a 7-6 triumph at home against Highlands in Section 3-4A play. Doyle went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs, including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth for the Golden Lions (2-12, 1-9). In the setback, Troy Bielak went 3-for-3 with a trio of runs batted in for the Golden Rams (4-13, 2-8).

Indiana 11 Valley 6

Indiana blew open a 6-6 game with five runs in the fifth inning to knock off Valley 11-6 in a Section 3-4A showdown. Brady Moore went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the Vikings (13-5, 8-2) while Nikolas Heakins had a triple and a double. Dominick Dunkel also recorded two hits including a double. Ethan Shank posted four hits, including a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Indians (12-3, 8-2). As a result of Indiana's win, the two teams will split the section title.

Ligonier Valley 6 Southmoreland 0

Keyed by a stellar pitching effort by Miles Smith, Ligonier Valley blanked Southmoreland 6-0 in a Section 3-3A clash. Smith tossed the shutout, giving up just two hits while racking up 11 strikeouts for the host Rams (8-8, 5-5). Additionally, Gavin Moore and Noah Knupp each contributed two RBIs. The only Scotties’ (1-15, 0-10) hits came courtesy of Peyton Bann and Jake Govern.

Freeport 8 Yough 4

Yough fell behind 6-1 after two innings and the Cougars couldn't recover in an 8-4 loss to Freeport in Section 3-3A. Tyler Burkett finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored in the game for Yough (8-7, 4-6). Gabe Shakoske and John Steban each had two hits while Nate Bell notched two RBIs. Gavin Tola collected two hits and three runs scored for the first place Yellowjackets (15-0, 10-0).

Ringgold 5 Mount Pleasant 0

Mount Pleasant managed just four hits in a 5-0 loss at Ringgold in a non-section clash. Ian Shipley had two of those hits for the Vikings (10-7, 7-3). Michael Green drove in a pair of runs for the Rams (8-8, 5-5).

Jeannette 16 Mapletown 1

Jeannette steamrolled Mapletown 16-1 in four innings in a Section 1-1A contest. In the offensive outburst for the Jayhawks (9-6, 5-5), Noah Rattigan homered and doubled, amassing four RBIs, Jayden Kennedy had three hits and three runs batted in, and Amari Thomas also had three RBIs. Meanwhile, Wyatt Schaffer earned the win on the hill for Jeannette against the Maples (2-15, 0-10).

Greensburg Central Catholic 14 West Greene 4 (6 innings)

Greensburg Central Catholic tallied 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to earn a 14-4, six-inning win against West Greene in Section 1-1A. Tyler Samide and Carson Kramer both had two hits and three RBIs for the Centurions (11-0, 10-0). Nick Sopko added two hits and two RBIs for GCC. Stephen Kochis tossed 4 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. Darren Knight finished with two hits, and RBI and a runs scored for the Pioneers (2-12, 2-8).
