Westmoreland County baseball game recaps from Wednesday, April 8th 2026:

Hempfield Area 14 Mount Lebanon 3 (6 inn)

Hempfield Area’s offense exploded in a 14-3 run-rule victory in six innings against Mount Lebanon in Section 2-6A play. Evan Dunlap had a couple of hits, including a grand slam for the host Spartans (4-5, 2-3), while Chase Damaska added three RBIs and Ian Kovalcik produced a pair of runs batted in for Hempfield. Ben Kraemer had a couple of RBIs and two hits for the Blue Devils (5-3, 0-2).

Canon-McMillan 8 Norwin 0

The Norwin batters could not solve Sebastian Shulsky, as he threw a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts to lead host Canon-McMillan to an 8-0 triumph in a first-place clash in Section 2-6A. The Knights (5-2, 3-1) mustered just two hits, courtesy of Tristyn Tavares and Derek Berger, while Matt O’Neil took the loss on the mound. The Big Macs (9-0, 4-0) sealed the outcome with five runs in the sixth, including RBI singles by Noah Westfall and Massimo Falconi, while Nico Patragas added a two-run double earlier in the contest.

Greater Latrobe 10 Kiski Area 3

Led by Aaron Gaskey’s effort on the hill and a potent offense, Greater Latrobe cruised past host Kiski Area 10-3 in Section 1-5A action. Gaskey racked up 10 strikeouts for the Wildcats (8-1, 4-1), while Josh Short, Ty Wisniewski, and Joe Razza had a couple of runs batted in apiece. In the setback, the Cavaliers (1-6, 1-3) were paced by Zach Hald, who homered and accounted for all three RBIs.

Plum 10 Penn-Trafford 0 (5 innings)

Braden Kemmerer tossed a five-inning no-hitter as Plum took down Penn-Trafford 10-0 in Section 1-5A. Max Vollmer homered, drove in two runs and scored three times to power the Mustangs (8-0, 3-0). The Warriors record falls to (6-3, 3-2).

Belle Vernon 8 Laurel Highlands 4

Belle Vernon built up a 6-1 lead through three innings and never looked back in an 8-4 triumph at Laurel Highlands in Section 2-4A play. Connor Bergman went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Leopards (7-2, 5-1). Teammate Jack Edwards doubled twice and knocked in a pair. Zach Plymire pitched six innings to earn the victory. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six. Ramaree Morgan hit a home run for the Mustangs (1-7, 0-4).

Mount Pleasant Area 15 Burrell 0 (4 innings)   WATCH BROADCAST

Bobby Smithnosky’s two-way performance catapulted Mount Pleasant Area to a 15-0 four-inning blowout win against Burrell in a Section 3-3A Westmoreland County tilt. Smithnosky allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out six in an abbreviated shutout on the mound, and he went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs at the plate. Jordan Grieff was also 3-for-3 for the host Vikings (6-4, 4-2), while Ian Shipley and Carter Unger each had a pair of hits. In the defeat for the Buccaneers (4-4, 3-3), Trey Coury and Parker Logot accumulated the only hits.

Deer Lakes 2 Ligonier Valley 1

Deer Lakes scored twice in the first inning and made it stand, edging Ligonier Valley 2-1 in a Section 3-3A battle. Cooper Hegan doubled for the Rams (3-5, 1-3) while Owen Smith drove in their only run in the fourth inning. Eli Misera finished 3-for-3 for the Lancers (4-7, 3-3). Miles Smith was the hard luck loser, going all seven innings for LV. He struck out nine. Brady Plummer was the winning pitcher.

Yough 22 Southmoreland 0 (5 innings)

Yough pounded out 19 hits in a 22-0 five-inning route of Southmoreland in Section 3-3A action. Aidan Shaffer went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored for the Cougars (5-2, 3-1). Gabe Shakoske, Nate Bell, Jake Williams and Nick Felgar all collected two RBIs. Shaffer also picked up the victory on the mound striking out five and surrendering only one hit in five innings. The Scotties are now (1-8, 1-6).

Carmichaels 6 Jeannette 5

Carmichaels scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and held off Jeannette in the bottom of the frame for a 6-5 Section 1-1A win. The Mighty Mikes were down 3-2 after six but plated four runs in the top of the seventh to go in front 6-3. The Jayhawks rallied to score twice in their last at-bat but a strikeout ended the game with the tying run at second. Kenny Himes recorded three hits while Evyn Yargeau finished with two hits for Jeannette (4-4, 1-3). Connor Lapana belted two doubles and drove in two runs for Carmichaels (5-3, 4-2).
