Milana Yannascoli, a senior from Hempfield Area, reigned supreme at the Westmoreland County Coaches Association (WCCA) girls golf championship last Thursday.
Yannascoli shot a 4-over 41 on the front nine of Champion Lakes Golf Course and Resort in Bolivar last Thursday. After finishing third the previous year, Yannascoli ascended to the top spot this time, carding five strokes better than runner-up and 2023 winner Gianna Johnson of Franklin Regional.
Yannascoli’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the eighth hole.
In the process, she also helped Hempfield Area claim the WCCA Class 3A team title. The Spartans collectively scored 196, two strokes ahead of the defending champion Panthers.
Kennedy Kelly of Greensburg Central Catholic placed third with a round of 47, while Franklin Regional’s Mia Snyder fired a 48 and GCC’s Erica Rodriguez finished with a 49.
The Centurions took the top spot among Class 2A squads, firing a team score of 207.
