Kiski Area junior Max Mottura won a scorecard tiebreaker to capture the 2024 Westmoreland County Coaches Association (WCCA) Boys Golf Championship Thursday.

Competing at the Latrobe Elks Lodge and Golf Club, Mottura shot a 3-under par 69, which tied him with Greensburg Salem freshman Luke Sikora. They shot equal scores on each of the three most difficult holes, but because he scored better on the fourth-hardest hole, Mottura took the gold.

On the front nine, the Cavaliers junior carded two birdies and two bogies. On the back nine, however, he notched a trio of birdies.

Norwin senior Dom Cerilli finished in third place, one shot behind, while Franklin Regional’s Colin Holt and Greater Latrobe’s Jack Sacriponte tied for fourth with scores of 73.

Propelled by Mottura’s effort, the Cavaliers also took first in the Class 3A team competition with a score of 382, which was seven strokes better than runner-up Greater Latrobe. Norwin placed third with a team score of 391.

In Class 2A, Greensburg Central Catholic reigned supreme with a score of 407, which was five strokes ahead of second-place Mount Pleasant Area. Greensburg Salem came in third, as the Golden Lions produced a score of 418.
