Mount Pleasant doubles up Yough; Penn-Trafford shuts out Franklin Regional; Burrell beats Southmoreland

Westmoreland County softball game recaps from Monday, April 6th 2026:

Hempfield Area 15 Pine-Richland 5 (6 innings)

The game was tied at 5-5 through four-and-a-half innings but Hempfield Area exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and tacked on two more in the sixth to defeat Pine-Richland 15-5 in a Section 1-6A game. Ella Berkebile clubbed two home runs and collected four RBIs to lead the Spartans (6-1, 4-0) while Jayelyn Luft went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Lauren Howard added a triple and a pair of doubles. Jocelyn Luft homered. Julia Varhola was the winning pitcher. Sera Julio had three hits for the Rams (2-4, 1-3).

Penn-Trafford 9 Franklin Regional 0

Allyson Paulone tossed a one-hit shutout as Penn-Trafford took care of Franklin Regional 9-0 in Section 2-5A action. Aria Smith had two hits and scored three runs for the Warriors (6-2, 4-1) while Torrie DeStefano went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Julia Salvador knocked in three. Paulone finished with seven strikeouts. Grace Stark had the lone hit for the Panthers (1-8, 1-3).

Knoch 8 Greensburg Salem 2

Knoch took an early 3-0 lead after one and went on to defeat Greensburg Salem 8-2 in a Section 1-4A battle. Aubrey Steuernagel finished with two hits and a walk for the Golden Lions (2-2, 2-1). Alena Tekely went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for the Knights (3-3, 3-2).

Mount Pleasant 12 Yough 6

Sadie Poole went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored to lead Mount Pleasant to a 12-6 triumph at Yough in Section 1-3A. In addition to Poole, Danica Trainer and Emma Miller each added two hits and two RBIs for the Vikings (4-1, 3-0). One of Trainer's hits was a home run. Chloe Borelli also homered. Leadoff hitter Kylee Odelli finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cougars (7-3, 2-1) who plated all six runs in the sixth inning. Trainer was the winning pitcher going all seven innings.

Burrell 13 Southmoreland 6

Burrell held a slim 7-5 lead through five innings but scored six runs over the final two frames to claim a 13-6 victory at Southmoreland in Section 1-3A. Addy Wojtczak had a monster game finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles and four runs scored for the Bucs (4-3, 2-1). Cayla Brothers tripled and drove in four while Haylee Heasley and Sam Gregg added three hits a piece. Zoey Murphy produced two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Scotties (1-7, 0-4). Shelby Novak earned the win in the circle.

Ligonier Valley 7 Jeannette 5

Ligonier Valley scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away from Jeannette and win a non-section contest 7-5. Bella Dolton and Kenzlee Machak both drove in two runs for the Rams (3-3, 1-1). Dolton doubled. Abby Shaw collected two hits, including a double, and scored twice for the Jayhawks (4-1, 2-0) while Grace Stein drove in a pair of runs.
