The Greensburg Central Catholic girls golf team collected their seventh straight WPIAL Class AA championship on Thursday at Cedarbook Golf Course. The Centurions posted a team score of 332, easily defeating second place Central Valley which finished a whopping 49 strokes behind.
GCC senior Meghan Zambruno finished first on the individual leaderboard shooting a 1-over par 72. Her twin sister, Ella, came in third place as she tallied an 83 while teammate Izzy Aigner placed fourth ending her day with an 85.
Mt. Pleasant earned third place in the four-team field firing a 433. Elizabeth Forward claimed fourth with a 439.
The Centurions qualify for the PIAA team championships which will be held on October 25th at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.
In the boys WPIAL Class AA final, Derry Area junior Hunter Jurica recorded the lowest score in the classification but it wasn't enough as North Catholic captured its first ever WPIAL title edging Quaker Valley 405-409.
Jurica shot a 2-over par 74 as the Trojans posted a team score of 428, which landed them in third place in the six-team field. Just two days prior on Tuesday, Derry Area created buzz when the team shot an impressive 396 in the semifinal.
Elsewhere on Thursday, Fox Chapel claimed the boys Class AAA title, defeating Pittsburgh Central Catholic by a single stroke, 376-377. The Foxes also earned the girls Class AAA championship with a five-stroke victory over Peters Township.
