After three weeks of exclusively nonconference action, numerous teams begin the conference slate this week. That includes 13 Westmoreland County squads. Moreover, the nonconference is highlighted by an all-Westmoreland clash. Here’s a closer look at all of the action across the county in Week Four.

Franklin Regional (0-3, 0-0) at Penn-Trafford (3-0, 0-0) – 7:30 p.m.

About the Panthers: Franklin Regional was overwhelmed by Norwin 54-7 at Penn-Trafford High School last week. Jet Taylor was a bright spot for the Panthers, as he posted 14 carries for 98 yards and their lone score. On the season, Gage Williams leads FR with 39 carries for 222 yards and four touchdowns, while Taylor has posted 28 carries for 209 yards and a pair of scores. QB Brock Bowser has hit on 11-of-25 throws for 111 yards and two interceptions, and has rushed 20 times for 78 yards, but he missed last week’s contest with injury. The Panthers have been outpaced by a margin of 130-48 on the season.

About the Warriors: Ben Grabowski was the catalyst offensively, while the defense created six turnovers in Penn-Trafford’s 22-7 road win against Moon Area at Robert Morris University one week ago. Grabowski registered 24 carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while he also threw for 102 yards on 8-of-16 passing for the Warriors. Orlando DeOrio snagged three passes spanning 58 yards, and Jordan Earhart added six carries for 47 yards. Meanwhile, the PT defense collected three interceptions and also recovered three fumbles. For the campaign, Grabowski has completed 19-of-33 throws for 308 yards and three scores, while he’s amassed 46 carries for 319 yards and two TDs. Cody Yacamelli, who left last week with injury, has produced 35 carries for 207 yards and three TDs. Nick Ponko paces PT with 13 grabs for 169 yards and five touchdowns. About the Trojans: Max Doherty found the end zone twice, as Derry Area rolled to a 37-7 win at home against East Allegheny one week ago. In addition to Doherty’s efforts for the Trojans, Anthony Quidetto accounted for 107 yards and a score on the ground. With three games under their belt, the Trojans are led by Doherty, who has accumulated 52 carries for 398 yards and seven touchdowns. Signal caller Anthony Sacco has gone 22-of-41 through the air for 308 yards, with one TD and a pair of picks, and he’s also rushed for 208 yards and two TDs on 29 attempts. Noah Stough leads DA with 105 receiving yards.

About the Vikings: Mount Pleasant Area couldn’t slow the South Allegheny rushing attack, as the Vikings suffered a lopsided 41-3 defeat last Friday. Tyke Snyder’s 26-yard field goal represented the only points for the visiting Vikes. QB Bobby Smithnosky was 6-of-10 passing for 43 yards, while Tristan Wtorkiewicz rushed nine times for 43 yards. On the season, Smithnosky is 11-of-19 passing for 148 yards, with one TD and one interception. Kaden Hudec has notched 23 carries for 190 yards, while Wtorkiewicz has 160 yards rushing and a team-best five total scores.

About the Matchup: This is the lid lifter in the Class 3A Interstate Conference. Last season, the Trojans claimed a 33-13 victory at home.

Southmoreland (1-2, 0-0) at Greensburg Salem (0-3, 0-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Scotties: Southmoreland captured its first win of the campaign in a 42-21 home triumph against Uniontown Area one week ago. Dawson Wolfe rushed 15 times for 130 yards and four scores for the Scotties. Dylan Brown added 11 carries for 83 yards and score, and Reese Jordan contributed a dozen carries for 47 yards and another TD. Brock Geho caught six passes for 82 yards. In three games, Wolfe has hit on 16-of-35 passes for 154 yards and three interceptions, and he’s posted 53 carries for 305 yards, scoring five times. Geho paces the receivers with 10 grabs spanning 106 yards.

About the Golden Lions: Despite an epic effort by Brody Chismar, Greensburg Salem came up short, 42-39, against Burrell in a Westmoreland County shootout last week. In the setback for the Golden Lions, Chismar hit on 20-of-37 throws for 360 yards and three scores and two picks, while he rushed 21 times for 125 yards and a trio of touchdowns. Brandt Sandstrom posted six catches for 155 yards for GS. For the year, Chismar has completed 52-of-91 throws for 836 yards, which ranks second in the WPIAL, along with eight TDs and two picks, and he’s rushed 39 times for 234 yards and four touchdowns. Braydon Miller leads GS with 24 receptions, the most in the WPIAL, for 336 yards, scoring four times, while Jackson Stevey has 10 catches for 160 yards.

About the Matchup: This clash represents the first contest for the teams in the Class 3A Interstate Conference. In 2025, the Scotties reigned supreme, 38-0.

Norwin (2-1, 0-0) at Pittsburgh Central Catholic (3-0, 0-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Knights: With Potter Brozeski and Giovanni Rothrauff leading the way, host Norwin overwhelmed Franklin Regional 54-7 at Penn-Trafford High School one week ago. Brozeski posted five catches for 96 yards, including three TDs, and he also notched a 45-yard punt return score. Rothrauff, meanwhile, amassed 24 carries for 207 yards and two touchdowns, while QB Max Ritz hit on 9-of-15 throws for 150 yards and three TDs for the Knights. Through three tilts, Rothrauff has produced 95 carries for 525 yards, scoring six total TDs. Brozeski has snagged 15 receptions for 239 yards. Ritz, meanwhile, has connected on 35-of-65 throws for 389 yards, with four TDs, and he’s added 164 yards on the ground.

About the Vikings: Pittsburgh Central Catholic proved its superiority over Pine-Richland with a 48-24 victory last week. Chrys Black Jr was the star for the Vikings, as he rushed 24 times for 228 yards and two TDs. Roman Thompson, meanwhile, added 15 carries for 100 yards and two scores, while quarterback Owen Herrick went 16-of-22 passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns. On the season, Black has rushed 49 times for 440 yards, finding the end zone eight times. Herrick has hit on 39-of-56 passes for 440 yards, with four TDs and one pick. The Vikings have scored 45 points or more in each of their games. Ryan Lehmeier is the heralded head coach of Central Catholic.

About the Matchup: This is the first matchup in Class 6A play for the teams. Last year, the Vikings won 35-6 at Carnegie Mellon University. This season, Central Catholic is playing its home games at the newly-built U.S. Steel Community Field in Hazelwood.

Hempfield Area (1-2, 0-0) at North Allegheny (0-3, 0-0) – 7:30 p.m.

About the Spartans: Carden Lippmann propelled the Hempfield Area offense, as the homestanding Spartans bested Trinity 44-20 last Friday. The Spartans QB was 14-of-22 passing for 197 yards and three TDs and one interception, while he posted a dozen carries for 77 yards and two more scores on the ground. DeRon Hunter also had a big game for the Spartans, catching four passes for 125 yards and two scores, while Andrew Bentz rushed 11 times for 71 yards and a score, and he also found paydirt on a 7-yard reception. On the season, Lippmann is 41-of-74 for 651 yards, with six TDs and four interceptions, and he leads the team with 134 yards rushing. Hunter paces Hempfield receivers with a dozen catches for 278 yards, scoring four times, while Lucas Simmons has registered 11 catches for 151 yards. Bentz has compiled 132 yards on the ground and has scored four TDs.

About the Tigers: North Allegheny remained winless with a 33-25 home loss to Woodland Hills last week. In the defeat, QB Brady Brinkley was 15-of-32 passing for 268 yards, with two scores and one pick, and he rushed for 94 yards and another TD. His favorite target was Ben Kern, who caught five passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. On the season, Brinkley has gone 45-of-90 passing for 536 yards, with four TDs and four picks, and he’s notched 40 carries for 219 yards. Kern leads NA with 16 catches for 246 yards and three scores. The Tigers are averaging 14.0 points per game. The legendary Art Walker Jr. is at the helm of North Allegheny.

About the Matchup: Both teams are opening their Class 6A slate. A year ago, the Tigers blasted the Spartans 56-13.

Greater Latrobe (2-1, 0-0) at Gateway (2-1, 0-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Wildcats: Greater Latrobe took command in the first half, and cruised to a decisive 45-7 triumph against Indiana Area last week. Quarterback Dom Scarton was 5-of-7 through the air for 72 yards, with two scores and a pick for the Wildcats, while Dante Durigon posted 89 yards and a pair of TDs on just four carries. Drew Blossey, Eli Meeder and Pickle Burkett also scored first-half TDs for the Cats, who led 38-0 at the intermission. For the season, Scarton is 25-of-42 for 546 yards, with nine touchdowns and just one interception. AJ Yeboah leads the rushing attack with 37 carries for 348 yards, while Ty Wisniewski has registered 11 catches for 261 yards, and he leads GL with four total touchdowns. The Wildcats are averaging 37.0 points per contest.

About the Gators: Gateway was steamrolled at West Allegheny 49-10 last Friday. QB Mayson Mitchell struggled mightily, going 6-of-16 for 54 yards and four interceptions. Darrell Harper posted four carries for 37 yards and the only TD for the Gators. For the campaign, Mitchell has registered 49-of-86 passing for 576 yards, with six touchdowns and six picks. Julian Dancear leads Gateway with 13 receptions, and he also paces the team with 30 carries. Ned Reid has scored a team-best three TDs. Don Holl is the decorated head coach of Gateway.

About the Matchup: This showdown is the opener in the Class 5A Big East Conference. One year ago, Gateway narrowly prevailed, 27-24.

Deer Lakes (0-3, 0-0) at Valley (2-1, 0-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Lancers: Deer Lakes suffered a wild 55-48 loss at home against Freedom Area last Friday. Lancers QB Dante Mangieri had an epic performance, completing 15-of-26 throws for 338 yards and five touchdowns, and he also rushed for a score. Meanwhile, Roman Smith accumulated 29 carries for 205 yards and a score. On the season, Mangieri has thrown for 600 yards and seven touchdowns. Tim Burk is the head coach of Deer Lakes.

About the Vikings: Valley and Sean Wilkerson left no doubt in a 41-0 blowout win at Quaker Valley last week. Wilkerson provided TD runs of 16 and 6 yards, and he added a 44-yard touchdown reception from Skyler Lincoln. Juzeff Betts added a 16-yard score on the ground for the Vikings. For the year, Wilkerson leads Valley with three scores, while Betts and Davell McWright each have found paydirt twice.

Charleroi (2-1, 0-0) at Ligonier Valley (3-0, 0-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Cougars: Charleroi claimed a 24-8 home win against Avella last Friday. In that victory, Elijah Allen compiled 17 carries for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Braedin Lunger caught two passes for 15 yards, including a TD. For the season, Allen has amassed 47 carries covering 296 yards, with four touchdowns. Coach Scott “Scooter” DeUnger patrols the sidelines for Charleroi.

About the Rams: Ligonier Valley pitched another shutout, as the Rams dominated host Yough 45-0 last Friday. LV quarterback Levi Foust produced seven carries for 123 yards and two scores on the ground, and Blake Hitt added 101 yards rushing and a TD for the Rams. For the season, Foust has thrown for 241 yards and three touchdowns, while he’s added 44 carries for 365 yards and four TDs on the ground. Hitt, meanwhile, has amassed 32 carries for 319 yards. The Rams have recorded two shutouts, and have outpaced their foes by a margin of 121-18.

About the Matchup: This is the first matchup in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference. A year ago, the teams met in a nonconference clash, with the Rams bulldozing the Cougars 67-13.

Springdale (1-1, 0-0) at Jeannette (2-1, 0-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Dynamos: Springdale was overwhelmed in a 42-0 outcome at home against Union last Friday. The Dynamos, who opted for a second scrimmage, won their first game of the season against Summit Academy two weeks ago, snapping a losing streak that dated back to 2023. Chad Walsh is in his third season at the helm of the program.

About the Jayhawks: Led by their sophomore signal caller, Jeannette knocked off homestanding New Brighton 28-14 one week ago. QB Anthony Stuchell was 10-of-17 for 178 yards and he tossed three TDs for the Jayhawks. Furthermore, Jayce Powell found the end zone twice in the triumph, as he caught three passes for 82 yards and also rushed for a touchdown. In three games, Stuchell has completed 26-of-52 throws for 417 yards, with six TDs. Powell leads the Jayhawks with 12 receptions for 192 yards, and also paces the team with 111 yards rushing and six total TDs.

About the Matchup: This is the initial clash in the Class 1A Eastern Conference. Last year, Jeannette rolled to a 50-8 triumph.

Fort Cherry (3-0, 0-0) at Monessen (3-0, 0-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Rangers: Fort Cherry edged host Laurel 21-17 last week to stay perfect. Eli Salvini was the offensive catalyst, rushing 22 times for 136 yards and all three touchdowns.

About the Greyhounds: Monessen narrowly edged Frazier 20-14. Kaier Payne racked up 187 yards and two touchdowns through the air for the Greyhounds, while Jay’veon Jeffries posted six receptions for 94 yards and two scores.

Ringgold (1-2) at Kiski Area (0-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Rams: Ringgold fell at home against Hampton 24-14 one week ago. In the defeat, quarterback Dennis Hawkins went 10-of-20 for 236 yards, with one TD, while Crosby Dague compiled 27 carries for 132 yards and a score. On the year, Hawkins has hit on 21-of-45 throws for 441 yards, with three touchdowns. Dague, Demetri Lowe, and Nick Stasko have each notched a pair of touchdowns.

About the Cavaliers: Despite a prolific passing attack, Kiski Area came up short in a 35-28 loss against Armstrong. Cavaliers QB Landyn Artman compiled 320 passing yards and three TDs and two interceptions, while Bryce Bowman had 10 grabs for 127 yards and Daevion McNeil notched five catches for 138 yards and three touchdowns for KA. For the season, Artman has hit on 47-of-69 throws for 685 yards, with six TDs and six picks, and he’s added 199 yards on the ground. McNeil has 11 receptions for 340 yards and six scores, while Bowman has amassed 20 grabs for 240 yards.

About the Matchup: This is a Class 4A nonconference battle, as the Rams compete in the Big Six, while the Cavs compete in the Greater Allegheny. The teams have not met since prior to 2003.

Burrell (3-0) at Belle Vernon Area (2-1) – 7 p.m.

About the Buccaneers: Burrell outlasted Greensburg Salem 42-39 in a Westmoreland County shootout last week. Antonio Perkins posted 19 carries for 155 yards three scores, and he went 7-of-17 through the air for 143 yards and another two touchdowns, along with an interception, for the Buccaneers. His featured target was Fabian Wilson, who had four catches for 114 yards and two TDs. Trey Coury also scored a touchdown for Burrell. To this point, Perkins has compiled 53 carries for 487 yards, scoring nine times, and he’s added 264 yards and two TDs through the air. Coury, meanwhile, has posted 37 carries for 319 yards and three scores. Burrell has averaged 33.7 points per game.

About the Leopards: Jace Gedekoh factored into all three scores in leading Belle Vernon Area to a 19-12 win at West Mifflin Area last week. Gedekoh threw for a score on 9-of-13 passing for 134 yards, and rushed 10 times for 61 yards and two TDs for the Leopards. Chase Petrosky provided 15 carries for 105 yards, and Luca Ghilani caught three passes for 93 yards and a score. In three contests, Petrosky has 41 carries spanning 260 yards, while Gedekoh has completed 27-of-40 throws for 341 yards, with three TDs and two interceptions, while also rushing 30 times for 108 yards and two more scores. The Leps are permitting 15.3 points per game.

About the Matchup: While both teams compete in Class 3A, the Buccaneers are in the Allegheny Seven Conference, while the Leopards are in the Interstate Conference. The teams have not squared off since prior to 2003.

Albert Gallatin (1-2) at Yough (0-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Colonials: Albert Gallatin was blanked by Waynesburg Central 35-0 one week ago. Roman Smith rushed for 75 yards on 14 attempts, while Bronx Jamison hit both of his passes for 30 yards and posted seven carries for 42 yards. On the year, Smith has registered 47 attempts for 309 yards and two scores, while Jamison, Clayton Bollinger, and Gio Guerriere have all topped 100 yards rushing. Coach Drew Dindl oversees AG.

About the Cougars: Yough was overwhelmed 45-0 against Ligonier Valley last Friday. The Cougars suffered their second whitewash of the year, as Darius Stephenson was 5-of-12 passing for 35 yards. In three games, Stephenson has completed 19-of-52 throws for 170 yards, with one score and two picks. Joey Bibby is the top receiver with seven catches for 82 yards. Yough has been outpaced 133-14 this year.

About the Matchup: While Albert Gallatin resides in the Class 4A Big Six Conference, the Cougars play in the Class 3A Interstate Conference. The most recent meeting, in 2021, was a 40-0 blowout in favor of the Colonials.

Bentworth (2-1) at Greensburg Central Catholic (2-1) – 7 p.m.

About the Bearcats: Bentworth edged Keystone Oaks 28-20 last week. Alex Leichty led the way for the Bearcats, compiling 11 rushes for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jacob Cavanaugh also found paydirt, registering eight carries for 64 yards. Kaden Ayers caught three passes for 71 yards and added a rushing score. Through three tilts, Leichty has 26 carries for 175 yards, and Bryce Crowson has achieved 25 carries covering 164 yards, with each scoring three times. Dave Pordash serves as the head coach for Bentworth.

About the Centurions: Greensburg Central Catholic secured a convincing 41-8 victory at Carmichaels last Friday. Blase Bugosh contributed a dozen carries for 111 yards and two TDs, as well as a receiving score, while Luke Semelka added three rushes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Carson Kramer hit on 7-of-11 attempts for 131 yards, with two touchdowns and a pick. On the year, Bugosh has racked up 35 carries for 351 yards, scoring eight times. Max Weber has added 143 yards on the ground on 29 carries. GCC has scored 41 points in each of its wins, but was limited to six points in the setback.

About the Matchup: This is a Class 1A nonconference clash, as the Bearcats are in the Black Hills Conference, while the Centurions play in the Eastern Conference. The teams have not locked horns since prior to 2003.
