Mount Pleasant Area 1 Fort LeBoeuf 0 (2A)
Maddie Barrick scored the lone goal to propel Mount Pleasant Area to a 1-0 victory against District 10 champion Fort LeBoeuf in the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals on Saturday at North Allegheny High School. Barrick’s marker came in the 31st minute, following a corner kick for the Vikings. Mount Pleasant Area made that lead stand, as goalkeeper Laurel Rummel notched the clean sheet, recording five saves. The Vikings (21-2-0), who also defeated Bedford last Tuesday in the PIAA first round, advance to the state semifinals for the first time in program history. They will battle District 10 runner-up General McLane (15-5-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Slippery Rock High School.
Greensburg Central Catholic 3 Springdale 1 (1A)
Despite facing an early deficit, Greensburg Central Catholic responded with three goals in the first half, defeating Springdale 3-1 in the PIAA Class 1A quarterfinals at Norwin High School on Saturday. Riley Kerr, a sophomore, tallied twice for the Centurions (15-4-0), while Sara Felder also scored in the victory. Springdale, which defeated GCC twice during the regular season, opened the scoring on Saturday in the 10th minute, courtesy of Ashley Ross. The Centurions quickly answered, however, as Kerr netted her first, assisted by Alexia Graham, in the 16th minute. Kerr struck again to put GCC in the lead in the 28th minute, and Felder followed with another marker less than two minutes later. As a result, the Centurions return to the state semifinals for the fourth year in a row, and will face Freedom Area (19-4-0), which defeated Greensburg Central Catholic in the WPIAL semis, on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Gateway High School.
