Hempfield Area 41 Seneca Valley 14 WATCH

Hempfield Area exploded for 28 points in the fourth quarter, with Anthony Carello leading the way in a 41-14 home triumph against Seneca Valley in a Class 6A showdown. Carello rushed four times for 142 yards and a score, and he added a 31-yard pick six for the Spartans (3-3, 2-1). Carden Lippmann went 12-of-19 passing for 102 yards, and he rushed 12 times for 48 yards and a score for Hempfield. In the loss, the Raiders (2-3, 0-3) were led by Nico Wheeler, who went 16-of-34 for 213 yards and a score, along with one interception.

Gateway 47 Franklin Regional 9 WATCH

Franklin Regional had no answers for Gateway’s offense, as the Panthers suffered a 47-9 defeat at home in a Class 5A Big East Conference tilt. Quarterback Dominick Devola ran for 142 yards and the lone TD for the Panthers (1-5, 1-2). Meanwhile, Ned Reid IV amassed 153 yards rushing and two scores, and he also caught a pair of TDs for the Gators (3-3, 1-1). Mayson Mitchell threw for 233 yards and a trio of scores for Gateway.

Belle Vernon Area 14 Derry Area 7 WATCH

A Jace Gedekoh touchdown run in the fourth quarter proved the difference, as Belle Vernon Area edged host Derry Area 14-7 in a Class 3A Interstate Conference showdown. Gedekoh also connected on 12-of-19 throws for 140 yards for the Leopards (5-1, 2-0), while Cameron Black caught seven passes for 93 yards for BVA. In the defeat for the Trojans (2-4, 0-2), Max Doherty rushed 17 times for 67 yards, while Anthony Sacco passed for 98 yards on 11-of-22 throws, including a TD to Noah Stough.

Greater Latrobe 35 Fox Chapel Area 0

Dom Scarton and the Greater Latrobe defense led the Wildcats to a lopsided 35-0 triumph against Fox Chapel Area in the Class 5A Big East Conference. Scarton threw for 143 yards and two scores, while AJ Yeboah and Dante Durigon each found the end zone twice for the Wildcats (4-2, 2-1). Meanwhile, the GL defense blanked the Foxes (1-5, 0-3), the fourth week in the row Fox Chapel failed to score a touchdown.

McKeesport Area 35 Kiski Area 7

Even with Kemon Spell sidelined, Kiski Area could not slow down McKeesport Area, as the Tigers prevailed 35-7 in the Class 4A Greater Allegheny Conference opener. Landyn Artman connected on 16 passes for 168 yards for the Cavaliers (1-5, 0-1), while Teegan Shirley threw a touchdown to Kaleb Varner for the lone Cavs score. Jordan Stuvaints compiled 178 yards passing and two scores through the air, while adding two rushing TDs for the Tigers (3-3, 1-0). Moreover, Tyshawn Robinson amassed 110 yards rushing and a score.

Burrell 22 Valley 14

Burrell held off Valley’s comeback bid, as the Buccaneers prevailed 22-14 in a Class 3A Allegheny Seven clash. Antonio Perkins rushed 15 times for 137 yards and a score, and he added another TD through the air for the Buccaneers (4-2, 1-1). Trey Coury also scored for Burrell. Skyler Lincoln went 11-of-22 passing for 116 yards and a TD for the Vikings (2-4, 0-3), while Juzef Betts posted 15 carries for 63 yards and Sean Wilkerson added a rushing touchdown.

Elizabeth Forward 55 Greensburg Salem 8

Greensburg Salem was on the wrong side of a blowout, as the Golden Lions fell to Elizabeth Forward 55-8 in the Class 3A Interstate Conference. In the defeat for the Golden Lions (0-6, 0-3), Brody Chismar connected with Braydon Miller for an 82-yard TD pass. On the other side, Kaden Allen threw for 147 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another score for the Warriors (6-0, 3-0). Rocco Thompon added 112 yards rushing and scored twice.

Waynesburg Central 41 Southmoreland 14

With Dawson Wolfe sidelined, Southmoreland was overmatched in a 41-14 loss to Waynesburg Central in a Class 3A Interstate Conference clash. The Scotties (2-4, 1-2), who trailed 41-0 at the half, received TDs from Reese Jordan and Colton Cochran. Teegan Crouse paced the Raiders (5-1, 2-1), rushing for two scores and throwing for another.

Avonworth 49 Yough 0

Yough’s offense was unable to get untracked in a 49-0 defeat to Avonworth in the Class 3A Three Rivers Conference. The Cougars (0-6, 0-1) were shut out for the third time this year. Mason Mobley factored into four touchdowns for the Antelopes (5-1, 1-0), throwing for two and rushing for two.

Ligonier Valley 52 Brownsville Area 7

Ligonier Valley continued to blow out the competition, smashing homestanding Brownsville Area 52-7 in a Class 2A Allegheny Conference game. Levi Foust threw a pair of TDs, and he added another on the ground for the Rams (6-0, 2-0). Gregory Sleasman hauled in two touchdowns, while Blake Hitt scored twice on the ground against the winless Falcons (0-6, 0-3).

Jeannette 21 Serra Catholic 14

Jeannette rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to edge Serra Catholic 21-14 in a Class 1A Eastern Conference battle. Jayce Powell notched a 55-yard TD run for the decisive points with less than five minutes left in the fourth for the Jayhawks (5-1, 3-0), his second rushing score of the game. McAllister Steele also booted a pair of field goals for Jeannette. Marcus Holt paced the Eagles (2-4, 1-2) with 138 yards rushing and a TD, while Shane Andiorio had an 81-yard TD reception to put Serra in the lead in the fourth.

Greensburg Central Catholic 49 Leechburg Area 21

Blase Bugosh continued to propel Greensburg Central Catholic’s potent offense in a 49-21 home victory against Leechburg in the Class 1A Eastern Conference. Bugosh compiled 155 yards rushing and three scores for the Centurions (5-1, 2-0), while Tommy Dlugos posted two scores, and Carson Kramer hit on 8-of-13 throws for 116 yards and a pair of TDs. For the Blue Devils (0-6, 0-3), QB Jaxon Vargo went 22-of-49 for 307 yards and three TDs, along with three interceptions, and Dylan Whitlinger posted 10 receptions for 106 yards.

Brentwood 7 Monessen 6

Monessen fell in a close contest for the second week in a row, losing 7-6 against Brentwood in the Class 1A Black Hills Conference. Kaier Payne threw for 145 yards for the Greyhounds (4-2, 1-2), while Da’Mari Miles scored a rushing touchdown.

Norwin 24 North Hills 17

Norwin stopped North Hills just shy of the goal line as time expired, preserving a 24-17 road win in a nonconference clash. Potter Brozeski was an offensive catalyst for the Knights (4-2), as he caught two passes for 100 yards and a score, and added an 18-yard TD run. Norwin QB Max Ritz also scored on an 18-yard scamper. Nicco Thomas tallied a TD for the Indians (4-1).

Penn-Trafford 42 Penn Hills 20

Kason Offield returned the opening kick 97 yards for a touchdown, and Penn-Trafford never looked back in a 42-20 mercy-rule win at home against Penn Hills in a nonconference matchup. The Warriors (6-0) took a 42-0 lead in the first half, as Ben Grabowski connected on TD passes to Nick Ponko twice, as well as Trent Brown and Nathan Jarosz. Landyn Stikkel added a touchdown run for PT. In the setback for the Indians (1-5), QB Jaysen Booker threw for a TD and ran for another.

Freeport Area 17 Mount Pleasant Area 14

Despite a strong defensive effort, Mount Pleasant Area came up just short in a 17-14 home loss to Freeport Area in a Class 3A nonconference affair. Brady Brooks had a 95-yard pick-six for the Vikings (3-3), while Kaden Hudec rushed 17 times for 78 yards and a TD. However, Judah Thompson kicked the winning 26-yard field goal for the Yellowjackets (5-1) with 2:22 left. Danny King threw for 139 yards and two scores for Freeport Area.
