Hempfield Area athletic director Brandon Rapp has resigned from his position after more than six years leading the Spartans’ athletic department.

Rapp informed coaches of his decision Monday and told WSN that he is resigning for personal reasons.

"It has been a great six-plus years at Hempfield and I'm looking forward to the next chapter", Rapp said.

His departure ends a tenure that included championship success, the addition of several sports and significant upgrades to the district’s athletic facilities.

During Rapp’s time at Hempfield Area, the Spartans captured multiple WPIAL and PIAA championships in softball and competitive spirit while also producing numerous individual champions. The district expanded its athletic offerings under Rapp with the addition of girls wrestling, girls lacrosse and girls golf, along with unified bocce and unified track and field.

Rapp also oversaw major improvements to the athletic facilities, including stadium and field house renovations. The district is currently moving forward with plans that will ultimately give Hempfield five artificial turf fields, including turf baseball and softball facilities.

Rapp received statewide recognition earlier this year when he was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association Region IV Athletic Director of the Year.

Before arriving at Hempfield Area, Rapp spent seven years as athletic director at Norwin and three years in the same position at Derry Area. He is a graduate of Keystone High School and Slippery Rock University and previously coached football at Redbank Valley.

He also served as president of both the Western Area Athletic Directors Association and the Big 5/6 Conference. He will relinquish those positions as part of his departure.

Rapp wanted to acknowledge assistant athletic director Tyler Warden, event coordinator Tom Evans and athletic secretary Christina More for their contributions during his tenure.

Hempfield Area will now search for a successor.
