Westmoreland County softball game recaps from Monday, April 14th 2025:

Hempfield Area 13 North Allegheny 3 (6 inn.)   WATCH BROADCAST

Keyed by monster performances by Riley Miller and Lauren Howard, Hempfield Area cruised to a 13-3 victory in six innings at home against North Allegheny in Section 1-6A play. Miller worked five shutout innings in the circle, allowing just two hits and no walks, while striking out seven. At the plate, she went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer. Howard also compiled a 3-for-3 effort, including a pair of triples, scoring three times and driving in a pair of runs. In total, the Spartans (9-0, 5-0) notched 14 hits, scoring five runs apiece in the fourth and sixth innings to claim the run-rule victory. Claire Mitchell and Reagan Reamer also added two-hit performances for the hosts. The Tigers (5-5, 4-3) received a solo homer from Erin Fadgen.

Norwin 5 Canon-McMillan 1

Rachel Minteer anchored the offense for Norwin in a 5-1 win at Canon-McMillan in Section 1-6A action. Minteer contributed a three-run homer for the Knights (4-6, 4-3), while Makenna Black also homered. Skylah Steban smacked a home run for the Big Macs (6-6, 4-5).

Penn-Trafford 9 Franklin Regional 2

Keyed by Allyson Paulone in the circle and Cam Ponko at the plate, Penn-Trafford notched a 9-2 victory at Franklin Regional in a first-place clash in Section 2-5A. Paulone allowed just two hits, walked four, and struck out six in a complete-game effort for the Warriors (8-1, 5-0). Ponko, meanwhile, contributed three hits, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning, along with four RBIs. Additionally, Giuliana Youngo posted three hits and two runs batted in, and Bella Rubbe added a pair of RBIs for PT, which moved into the top spot in the section. Ciara Camacho singled and scored in the first inning for the Panthers (8-3, 5-1), while Toryn Fulton drew three walks and also scored.

Greater Latrobe 9 Kiski Area 1

Mya McHugh tossed a one-hitter in leading Greater Latrobe to a 9-1 victory at home against Kiski Area in a Section 2-5A clash. McHugh also racked up 11 strikeouts for the Wildcats (7-4, 4-2), while Maddie Munchinski went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. In the setback, Samantha Matson provided the lone hit for the Cavaliers (2-6, 2-3).

Knoch 2 Greensburg Salem 0 (8 innings)

Greensburg Salem could not solve Knoch’s Marlee Fraser, as the Golden Lions dropped a 2-0 contest in eight innings in a Section 1-4A showdown. Fraser permitted just two hits for the Knights (9-1, 5-0), while Lizzie Danik provided both RBIs. Marley Perrone and Hannah Olbeter accounted for the hits for GS (6-3, 2-3)

Mount Pleasant Area 5 Yough 3

Homestanding Mount Pleasant Area edged Yough 5-3 in a Westmoreland County showdown in Section 1-3A. Dani Trainer led the Vikings (6-3, 4-0), as she went 3-for-3, including a home run, while Kendra Brunson produced a pair of runs batted in. In the fifth-consecutive loss for the Cougars (2-5, 0-3), Payton Jenkins and Anna Lindner each doubled.

Southmoreland 17 Burrell 11

A trio of Southmoreland players provided a pair of extra-base hits, as the Scotties outslugged Burrell 17-11 in a Section 1-3A matchup. Makayla Etling, Makayla Brown, and Zoey Murphy each homered and doubled for the visiting Scotties (4-3, 2-1). For the Buccaneers (4-7, 0-4), Bella Stewart launched a home run and added a double, while Christina Gural notched a pair of doubles.

Ligonier Valley 12 Deer Lakes 5

Ligonier Valley smacked a pair of home runs in claiming a 12-5 home triumph against Deer Lakes in Section 1-3A. Adelynn Witcoski and Elyse Witcoski each cleared the fence for the Rams, while Sydnee Foust went 3-for-4 for the Rams (2-5, 2-0)

Serra Catholic 6 Greensburg Central Catholic 0

Greensburg Central Catholic was on the wrong side of perfection, as the host Centurions fell 6-0 against Serra Catholic in Section 3-1A. Kelly Morrisey spun the perfect game for the Eagles (2-4, 2-0), compiling 18 strikeouts in the process. The contest marked the first game of the season for GCC, which has postponed nonsection tilts due to a small roster.
