Westmoreland County softball game recaps from Tuesday, April 22nd 2025:
Hempfield Area 10 Canon-McMillan 0
Riley Miller was stellar in the circle and at the plate in leading Hempfield Area to a 10-0 win in five innings at Canon-McMillan in Section 1-6A. Miller went the distance in the shutout, permitting just two hits with eight strikeouts, while she had a pair of hits, including a homer. Ella Berkebile and Lauren Howard also homered for the Spartans (13-0, 9-0).
Franklin Regional 6 Greater Latrobe 2
Franklin Regional overcame an early deficit, registering a 6-2 home victory against Greater Latrobe in a Section 2-5A battle. Chloe Lancaster earned the win in the circle for the Panthers (11-3, 7-1), surrendering six hits with three strikeouts, while she had two RBIs at the plate. Toryn Fulton also had two runs batted in on a pair of hits for FR, while Ciara Camacho, Ceana Copeland, and Ava Rhoten also had multi-hit efforts. Natalia Scekeres had two hits, including an RBI, for the Wildcats (8-5, 5-3)
Penn-Trafford 13 McKeesport Area 1
Penn-Trafford extended its winning streak to a dozen, as the Warriors cruised past McKeesport Area 13-1 in Section 2-5A play. Homestanding PT received a home run from Cam Ponko, while Kylie Anthony and Bella Rubbe also provided extra-base hits for the first-place Warriors (12-1, 9-0).
Belle Vernon 17 Ringgold 3
Kaylee Sypolt and Katie Sokol each belted a home run and collected three RBIs as Belle Vernon cruised to a Section 2-4A victory over Ringgold 17-3. Mailey Hayes also drove in three runs for the Leopards (7-8, 5-4). Alice Ramous doubled and knocked in two runs for the Rams (0-13, 0-7).
Greensburg Salem 19 Valley 1
Greensburg Salem was dominant in a 19-1 victory at Valley in Section 1-4A action. Alle Scarpa had a monster performance for the Golden Lions (8-4, 4-4), as she smacked a pair of home runs and drove in four runs. Moreover, Cate Waugaman contributed four hits, while Hannah Olbeter and Patty Redinger each had three hits for GS, while Sammie Reusser struck out eight in the circle. The Vikings dropped to 0-10, including 0-6 in the section.
Burrell 8 Mount Pleasant Area 3
The Buccaneers handed the Vikings their first setback in Section 1-3A play, as Burrell notched an 8-3 road victory. Pyper Ferres homered for the Bucs (6-8, 2-5), while Sabrina Hoover and Tina Gural each doubled. Dani Trainer was a bright spot offensively for the Vikings (8-4, 6-1), as she produced a pair of hits and an RBI.
Yough 8 Deer Lakes 1 WATCH BROADCAST
Led by Jaidyn Vay, Yough claimed an 8-1 victory against Deer Lakes in Section 1-3A. Vay allowed one run on four hits, striking out nine, while she went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. Anna Lindner had two hits and scored twice, Kylee Odelli also scored two times, and Shianna Kaefer notched three RBIs for the Cougars (4-6, 2-4). Riley Jones had a pair of hits, including an RBI, for the Lancers (5-9, 3-4).
Southmoreland 14 Ligonier Valley 2
Southmoreland was potent offensively, rolling to a 14-2 home victory against Ligonier Valley in a Section 1-3A clash. Makayla Etling went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, Riley Puckey also homered and notched a pair of runs batted in, and Taylor Doppelheuer, Makayla Brown, and Zoey Murphy also homered for the Scotties (6-4, 4-2). In the defeat, the Rams (2-8, 2-3) were paced by Sydnee Foust, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Jeannette 2 Serra Catholic 1
Grace Stein was overpowering in the circle, propelling Jeannette to a 2-1 victory at Serra Catholic in a Section 3-1A first-place clash. Stein racked up 15 strikeouts for the Jayhawks (5-3, 4-0), allowing just four hits.
Leechburg 8 Greensburg Central Catholic 6; Greensburg Central Catholic 11 Leechburg 7
Greensburg Central Catholic and Leechburg split a Section 3-1A doubleheader with the Blue Devils winning the first game 8-6 and the Centurions taking game two 11-7. GCC is now (1-2, 1-2) while Leechburg's record stands at (5-4, 3-2).
