Westmoreland County baseball game recaps from Tuesday, March 25th 2025:

Penn-Trafford 9 Greater Latrobe 6

Penn-Trafford scored nine runs in the final two innings to claim a 9-6 victory at Greater Latrobe in a Section 1-5A match up. The Wildcats built up a 5-0 lead through five innings with Cooper Basciano supplying the key hit, a three-run triple in the second frame. The Warriors began chipping away in the sixth inning, tallying four runs to cut the deficit to one. Greater Latrobe got one run back in the sixth before P-T answered with five runs in the seventh inning. With two outs in the seventh, Logan Matrisch came up with the go-ahead single as he drove in two runs to give P-T a 7-6 advantage. Following a walk, Colton Tyburski cracked a two-run single to center field to swell the lead to 9-6. Zach Feldman sat down the Wildcats in order in the bottom of the seventh as he earned the victory in relief. Tyburski, Matrisch and Feldman all finished with two hits each for Penn-Trafford (4-1, 2-0) while Ethan Septak knocked in a pair of runs. Brody Rumon went 3-for-4 and drove in a run for the Wildcats (2-3, 0-2) while Jack Stynchula collected two hits and two RBIs.

Franklin Regional 18 Penn Hills 3

Franklin Regional began Section 1-5A play with a bang, hammering Penn Hills 18-3 in a 15-run rule victory after only three innings. Ethan Raver paced the attack for the Panthers as he collected three doubles, scored twice and drove in a run. Chase Lemke also finished 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored while Brady Yarabinetz doubled and drove in three. James Templeton was the winning pitcher as he allowed three runs in three innings of work for Franklin Regional (4-1, 1-0). Anthony Sipple finished with two hits, a run scored and a run driven in for the Indians (0-3, 0-1).

Burrell 4 Yough 3

David Kleckner's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled Burrell to a 4-3 comeback victory over Yough in a Section 3-3A clash. The Cougars held a slim 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning but the Buccaneers tied the game as Adam Wass brought in Ryan Bates on a bunt single. After Wass got thrown out trying to steal second, Isaac Lacinski tripled. Following two intentional walks and a strikeout, Kleckner's fly ball found the grass in left field to drive in Lacinski as the winning run. Lacinski and Trey Coury each had two hits for Burrell (1-2, 1-0) while Coury drove in two runs with a single in the first inning. The Cougars (0-1, 0-1) managed just three hits and scored their three runs on two errors and a passed ball in the second inning. Wass picked up the win on the mound as he tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Deer Lakes 12 Southmoreland 4

Southmoreland fell behind 7-1 after two innings and couldn't bounce back in a 12-4 loss to Deer Lakes in a Section 3-3A game. Jacob Govern finished with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Scotties (1-3, 0-2) while Bredon Geho also drove in two runs. Nolan Danka drove in three runs for the Lancers (2-2, 2-0) who sweep the two-game series.

Mount Pleasant 14 Freeport 4

Mount Pleasant finished off a two-game sweep of Freeport, beating the Yellowjackets 14-4 in five innings in Section 3-3A play. The Vikings exploded for five runs in the first inning then added nine more in the second. The big hit of the game came off the bat of Dane Firmstone as he had an inside the park grand slam in the second inning. In addition to his four RBIs, Firmstone also doubled, walked and scored three runs. Santino Marne added three hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Mount Pleasant (2-2, 2-0). Jacob Kitz was the winning pitcher. Dustin Kohan went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Freeport (1-3, 0-2).

Greensburg Central Catholic 10 Jefferson-Morgan 0

Greensburg Central Catholic recorded seven runs in the first two innings, breezing to a 10-0 victory in five innings over Jefferson Morgan in Section 1-1A action. Jackson McMullen went 2-for-2 with three RBIs while teammate Anthony Grippo supplied three hits to lead the Centurions (3-1, 1-0). Tyler Samide tossed five scoreless innings to earn the shutout. The Rockets drop to (1-1, 0-1).

Jeannette 10 East Allegheny 0

Jeannette capitalized on five East Allegheny errors to cruise to a 10-0, five-inning triumph over East Allegheny in non-section play. Jayden Kennedy doubled and brought home three runs while Amari Thomas added a double and scored three times for the Jayhawks (1-2, 0-0). Evan Yargeau threw five no-hit innings while striking out 12 batters. The Wildcats fall to (0-2, 0-0).
