Westmoreland County baseball game recaps from Monday, April 14th 2025:

Norwin 18 Woodland Hills 0

Norwin scored an eye-popping 16 runs in the second inning and walloped Woodland Hills 18-0 in a three-inning, Section 2-6A victory. Brayden Wardzinski hit two doubles and finished with five RBIs to power the Knights (6-6, 4-3). Matt O'Neil drove in four runs and Nate Silberman collected three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs. Caden Sivrich pitched three scoreless and hitless innings for Norwin. He struck out six batters. The Wolverines fall to (2-5, 0-4).

Greater Latrobe 4 Franklin Regional 2 (9 inn.)   WATCH BROADCAST

Greater Latrobe scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game and then plated two more runs in the ninth inning to claim a 4-2, extra-inning victory at Franklin Regional in Section 1-5A. Trailing 2-0 through five innings, Mason Leonard and Ethan Boring both came through with RBI singles in the sixth to tie the game for the Wildcats. The game remain knotted at 2-2 until the ninth when Jack Stynchula's two-run single put Greater Latrobe ahead. Boring along with Cole Short each finished with two hits for the Wildcats (8-3, 5-2). Joe Razza worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the victory. Chase Lemke and Ethan Raver both posted two hits for the Panthers (7-2, 4-1).

Armstrong 8 Kiski Area 2

Armstrong plated six runs in the first two innings and Kiski Area couldn't dig itself out of the early hole, losing 8-2 in a Section 1-5A game. Dimitri Spagnola had two of the three hits mustered by the Cavaliers (1-8, 0-5). One of his hits was a RBI triple to score John Deluca. Carson Delano doubled twice and finished with three hits for the River Hawks (3-8, 2-5). Delano worked six innings to pick up the pitching victory.

Trinity 5 Penn-Trafford 4

Trinity struck for four runs in the top of the first inning and added a tally in the third to sink Penn-Trafford 5-4 in a non-section game. The Warriors nearly tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning as Jonny Lovre and Hunter Brown both singled after two outs but Nick Casciato grounded out to end the game. Ethan Septak singled twice, walked two times and knocked in two runs for Penn-Trafford (6-5, 4-2). Jonah Williamson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Hillers (4-5, 2-4) while J.R. Rieg was the winning pitcher.

Elizabeth Forward 7 Belle Vernon 0

Belle Vernon suffered its first loss of the season as Elizabeth Forward shut out the Leopards 7-0 in a Section 2-4A battle. Belle Vernon managed only three hits off of Cy Herchelroath who went the distance, striking out eight batters for the Warriors (7-2, 4-1). JB Crovak ended with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs to pace Elizabeth Forward. Alonzo Wade had two of the three hits for Belle Vernon (8-1, 6-1) which committed six errors in the game.

Derry Area 1 Highlands 0

Max Doherty threw 6 2/3 shutout innings while racking up eight strikeouts in Derry Area's 1-0 victory at Highlands in Section 3-4A play. The Trojans scored the lone run of the game in the fifth inning as Anthony Sacco provided a two-out, RBI single to score Liam McMahen. The Golden Rams put two runners on in the seventh inning but Cason Long came on to strike out the final batter and pick up the save. Mason Fridley notched two hits for Derry Area (4-3, 3-1) while Kristian Kocon ended with two hits for Highlands (5-6, 1-4).

Indiana Area 10 Greensburg Salem 0

Indiana Area plated five runs in the fourth inning to build up an 8-0 lead and went on to defeat Greensburg Salem by 10-run rule 10-0 in six innings in a Section 3-4A contest. The Golden Lions managed just one hit off of Indians starter Ryan Okopal as Robert Visnick broke up the no-hitter in the top of the sixth inning. Okopal struck out 12 batters. Mark Collinger went 3-for-3 with two runs scored for Indiana Area (9-0, 4-0). Greensburg Salem drops to (5-4, 3-2).

Knoch 4 Valley 1

Knoch brought in two runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away from Valley in a 4-1 Section 3-4A match up. Conrad Hoover recorded two hits for the Vikings (5-6, 0-5) while Kaden Dreher doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Knights (7-6, 3-2).

Ligonier Valley 3 Burrell 2

Tyler Smith's infield single scored the game-winning runs for Ligonier Valley as the Rams came back to edge Burrell 3-2 in Section 3-3A play. Smith finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Ligonier Valley (2-6, 1-3) while Jacob Petalino and Owen Smith also collected two hits each. Duncan Foust got the win in relief as he threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Parker Logut had two hits, including a double, for the Buccaneers (5-4, 5-2).

Mount Pleasant 12 Yough 2 (5 inn.)

Mount Pleasant scored in all five innings, earning a 12-2 mercy rule victory over visiting Yough in Section 3-3A action. Cole Chatfield led the Vikings 16-hit attack as he finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Dane Firmstone had two hits and three RBIs while Jordan Grieff and Levi Hixon each collected a pair of hits and two RBIs for Mount Pleasant (6-4, 5-2). Jacob Kitz surrendered two runs in five innings to pick up the win on the mound. Raidon Kuroda doubled and drove in two runs for the Cougars (2-5, 2-3).

Avella 5 Jeannette 4

Chas Rush delivered a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and that proved to be the difference as Avella topped Jeannette 5-4 in a Section 1-1A showdown. Jayden Kennedy had a big game for the Jayhawks collecting three hits and three RBIs. Kenny Himes and Evyn Yargeau both recorded two hits for Jeannette (2-6, 0-3). Rush and Logan Fedak both finished with two hits for the Eagles (9-1, 5-1).

Greensburg Central Catholic 6 Carmichaels 5

Anthony Grippo doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error as Greensburg Central Catholic edged Carmichaels 6-5 in a Section 1-1A game. Tyler Samide clobbered a three-run homer and Jackson McMullan drove in a run for the Centurions (6-1, 4-0). Alec Martin tossed a scoreless inning of relief to earn the mound victory. Jordan Davis tallied two hits and four RBIs to pace the Mighty Mikes (5-3, 4-2).
