GIRLS
Hempfield Area 63 Connellsville 43
Hempfield Area secured its first Section 2-6A triumph of the season, defeating Connellsville 63-43. Four players finished in double digits for the Spartans including Lilly Houghtalen (19), Gabby Coccia (17), Regan Fisher (14) and Ava Shipman (10). Maggie Orndorff's 16 points topped the Falcons (3-7, 0-2). Hempfield Area (7-2, 1-1) outscored Connellsville in every quarter.
Norwin 65 Upper St. Clair 51
Norwin built up a 35-24 lead at halftime and went on to win 65-51 at Upper St. Clair in a Section 2-6A clash. Ava Christopher tallied 14 points to pace the Knights (6-0, 2-0). Three others joined Christopher in double figures with Nia O'Barto and Aubrey Graney putting in 12 points each and Giuliana Giannikis finished with 10.
Greater Latrobe 59 Kiski Area 51
Greater Latrobe used a second half comeback to down Kiski Area 59-51 in a Section 1-5A game. The Cavaliers held a 30-22 advantage at halftime but the Wildcats outscored Kiski Area 37-21 over the final two quarters to earn the victory. Maggie Maiers exploded for 28 points to lead Greater Latrobe (4-2, 3-1) with teammate Emery Bridge adding 18. Gianna DeVito scored a team-high 20 points for the Cavaliers (5-3, 1-2) with Jada Blanciak and Arianna Bell each tossing in 10 points.
Indiana 43 Greensburg Salem 35
Indiana remained undefeated, outscoring Greensburg Salem 10-1 in the final quarter to pull away from the Golden Lions and win 43-35 in Section 2-5A action. Sophie Beckerleg and Vienna Jevicky both put in 13 points for Greensburg Salem (4-5, 0-4). Julia Antonacci came in with 13 points to power the Indians (9-0, 3-0).
North Catholic 65 Burrell 39
North Catholic outscored Burrell in every quarter, taking down the Buccaneers 65-39 in a Section 1-4A contest. The Trojans roared out to a 15-5 lead through eight minutes and built the advantage to 34-14 at the halftime break. Brady Wehner amassed 24 points for North Catholic (4-3, 2-1) while Kendall Coury had a team-best nine points for Burrell (8-2, 3-1).
Derry Area 49 Highlands 20
Buoyed by Kylee Metcalf's 13 points, Derry Area produced a 49-20 victory over visiting Highlands in Section 1-4A play. In addition to Metcalf, Trinity Miller and Lucie Loucks chipped in with 11 points a piece for the Trojans (3-6, 1-2). Brooke Waller's 10 points lead the Golden Rams (0-9, 0-3).
Yough 59 Southmoreland 47
Evelyn Gates racked up a game-high 25 points guiding Yough to a 59-47 win at Southmoreland in a Section 3-4A tilt. Carly Fitzgibbons also had a big game collecting 16 points for the Cougars (5-5, 1-3) who actually trailed the Scotties 26-24 at halftime. Ashley Seder netted 15 points for Southmoreland (1-9, 0-4) with teammate Megan Potoka adding 10.
Mt. Pleasant 43 Laurel Highlands 37
Ryleigh Drzal's 18 points helped Mount Pleasant top Laurel Highlands 43-37 in a Section 3-4A match up. Danica Trainer tossed in 12 points for the Vikings with Taylor Schwertlfeger registering 18 points to lead the Mustangs (2-6, 1-3).
Belle Vernon 70 Elizbeth Forward 56
Isis Almyty had 22 points and Lyla McConnell put up 20 to lead Belle Vernon to a 70-56 victory at Elizabeth Forward in a Section 3-4A game. The Leopards held a slim one-point lead at halftime but outscored the Warriors 38-25 in the second half. Saylor Lee added 11 points for Belle Vernon (6-2, 3-1) while Mia Sostaric's 25 points was a game-high for Elizabeth Forward (6-3, 3-1).
Deer Lakes 55 Ligonier Valley 34
Ligonier Valley trailed 25-12 at halftime and couldn't dig out of the hole, losing to Deer Lakes 55-34 in a Section 2-3A contest. Adleigh Myers lead all scorers tallying 20 points for the Rams (3-6, 2-3) with Sydney Sharkins ending with 16 points for the Lancers (5-2, 3-1).
BOYS
Kiski Area 69 Armstrong 34
Kiski Area went out to a 31-14 lead at halftime and rolled to a 69-34 win over Armstrong in a Section 2-5A game. Dalton Schneider and Luca Malaspina both put in nine points for the Cavaliers (4-4, 2-1) while Jaydon Oliver's 11 points paced the River Hawks (4-5, 0-4).
