Westmoreland County boys basketball game recaps from Friday, December 12th 2025:
Mount Lebanon 68 Hempfield Area 63 WATCH BROADCAST
Hempfield Area led early then stayed within striking distance of Mount Lebanon, tying the game in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Devils put the game away in the end winning 68-63 in a Section 2-6A battle. The game was knotted at 11-11 late in the first quarter before Mount Lebanon went on a 14-3 spurt to take control of the contest. The Spartans fought back to tie the game at 55 midway through the fourth quarter before Mount Lebanon ended the contest on a 13-8 run. Danny Husenits put in a game-high 20 points for Hempfield Area (3-2, 0-1) with Lucas Simmons adding 15 points and Trevor Donsen scoring 10. Liam Sheely collected a game-high 24 points for the Blue Devils (4-0, 1-0).
Norwin 56 Connellsville 48
Norwin trailed Connellsville by 10 points at halftime but used a big second half to earn a 56-48 Section 2-6A victory. Down 32-22 at the break, the Knights outscored the Falcons 20-8 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the fourth. Norwin improves to (4-2, 1-1) while Connellsville is now (2-3, 0-1).
Franklin Regional 63 Penn-Trafford 47 WATCH BROADCAST
Logan Walter exploded for 25 points to help guide Franklin Regional past Penn-Trafford 63-47 in the Section 1-5A opener for both teams. In addition to Walter, Webber Rankin also had a big game ending with 19 points for the Panthers (4-1, 1-0). Zach Feldman (14) and Ben Lenart (10) powered the Warriors (1-4, 0-1) who last held a lead in the game with 4:28 left in the first quarter.
Highlands 68 Burrell 65
Carmine Lacava buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Highlands past Burrell 68-65 in a Section 1-4A opening game. The Bucs were on their way to what it looked like a comfortable win leading 62-54 with four minutes left but the Golden Rams (4-1, 1-0) finished the game on a 14-3 run. Ryan Wass connected on seven three pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points for Burrell (2-3, 0-1) while Adam Wass tallied 20 points.
East Allegheny 56 Derry Area 50
Derry Area couldn't recover from a slow start, trailing 13-2 after one, in a 56-50 loss to begin Section 3-4A play. Stanley Rajkovich racked up a game-high 23 points for the Trojans (3-3, 0-1) while teammate Brayden Robinson put in 16. B.J. Warren's 22 points paced the Wildcats (3-1, 1-0).
Belle Vernon 70 West Mifflin 51
Four players finished in double figures for Belle Vernon as the Leopards posted a 70-51 triumph against West Mifflin in a Section 3-4A tilt. Cam Jenko led the quartet with 14 points with Elijah Majors (13), Vincenzo Francia (12) and Curty Wade (11) also registering double-digits for the Leopards (3-3, 1-0) who trailed 12-10 after the first quarter. Julian Dewberry's 13 points were a team-high for the Titans (0-7, 0-1).
Greensburg Salem 48 Yough 23
Greensburg Salem went out to a 9-4 lead and extended the advantage to 22-10 at halftime, rolling to a 48-23 victory over Yough in Section 3-4A. Solomon Cain tallied 13 points for the Golden Lions (3-2, 1-0) while Noah Dudek put in 11 points and Brody Burkholder added 10. Body King and Hayden Smith each came in with six points for the Cougars (0-7, 0-1).
Jeannette 80 California 34
Markus McGowan went off for 30 points in Jeannette's 80-34 blowout of California to begin Section 1-2A play. The Jayhawks scored 33 points in the first quarter alone and led 54-26 at halftime. Kymon'e Brown chipped in 15 points for Jeannette (4-1, 1-0).
Ligonier Valley 84 Geibel Catholic 72 (OT)
Ligonier Valley outscored Geibel Catholic 14-0 in overtime to secure an 84-72 non-section victory. Michael Vargulish-Graver poured in a game-high 28 points for the Rams with Michael Wisniewski just behind finishing with 25 points. Simeon Pope (14) and Noah Knupp (10) also finished in double-figures for Ligonier Valley (3-2, 0-0) which shot 33-of-58 from the foul line. Geibel Catholic falls to (3-2, 0-0).
