The Jaguars exploded for four goals in the second period on Monday, as Thomas Jefferson secured a 6-1 win against host Franklin Regional at the Palmer Imaging Arena in Delmont.
As a result, the Panthers dropped to 0-1-1 in PIHL Class AA play, while TJ moved to 2-0-0.
Andrew Oliver netted two goals and two assists for the Jaguars, while Jake Stock and Ryder McGuirk each had a goal and two helpers and Connor McCann contributed a goal and an assist.
Oliver commenced the scoring with a goal approximately 10 minutes into the opening period.
That lead stood until the second stanza, when the Jaguars added two goals in a span of 20 seconds courtesy of McCann and Gavin Salopek. The Jaguars continued to add to their lead with 4:31 left in the period, as McGuirk found the back of the net to make it 4-0.
Franklin Regional’s lone tally came late in the second period, as Max Rutkowski scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Nolan Savinda and Max Wiliams.
The Jaguars had a quick response, though, scoring just more than a minute later to restore their four-goal advantage at the intermission.
Oliver capped the scoring midway through the third period with his second tally of the night.
Ronnie Porupsky earned the win in net for Thomas Jefferson, as he made 18 saves, while Grant Novotny registered 28 saves in the defeat for the Panthers.
Franklin Regional returns to the ice in two weeks, as the Panthers will travel to play North Hills at the RMU Island Sports Center on Oct. 23.
