With every WPIAL team now with at least one conference game under its belt, each week takes on added importance for the postseason outlook. This week has a slew of notable all-Westmoreland battles, including clashes in 6A, 5A, 3A, and 1A that will likely have massive playoff implications. Without further ado, here’s a rundown of every Westmoreland County game in Week Six.
Hempfield Area (4-2, 1-2) at Norwin (4-2, 1-1) – 7 p.m.

About the Spartans: Dom Detruf had a monster game, and Hempfield Area scored 24 unanswered points to claim a 38-27 home victory against Canon-McMillan in Class 6A action last Friday. Detruf went 26-of-34 for 346 yards and four scores for the Spartans. Troy Sebring caught seven passes for 119 yards, while Lucas Simmons hauled in six passes for 93 yards, scoring three times. Jack Kopas added another receiving score for Hempfield, while Aidan Stinebiser contributed 16 carries for 68 yards and a rushing TD. On the season, Detruf has completed 88-of-120 throws for 1,258 yards, with 14 TDs and six interceptions, and he’s added 184 yards on the ground. Kopas paces the Spartans with 26 grabs for 356 yards, scoring seven times. Henry Mutschler has added 16 receptions for 217 yards. Despite the winning record, the Spartans have been outpaced 189-160 on the year.
About the Knights: Giovanni Rothrauff produced another 100-yard rushing game to lead Norwin to a 21-17 road victory against North Hills in a nonconference clash at Martorelli Stadium last Friday. Rothrauff rushed 41 times for 195 yards and a pair of scores for the Knights. QB Tristyn Tavares was limited to just 1-of-3 passing for 11 yards and 23 yards rushing before leaving with an injury, while Josh Lenart went 9-of-13 for 58 yards, with one score and one interception. In 2025, Tavares has connected on 40-of-70 throws for 597 yards, with nine TDs and three interceptions, while rushing 62 times for 513 yards and a team-leading eight scores. Rothrauff, meanwhile, has amassed 798 yards rushing on 143 carries, notching six TDs. Potter Brozeski and Zach Pawling are tied for the team lead with nine receptions each. The Knights average 33.6 points per game, the second-best mark in Class 6A.
About the Matchup: While the Knights are tied for third place in Class 6A, the Spartans are in a deadlock for fifth. A year ago, the Spartans prevailed at home, 34-28. Prior to guiding Norwin, Knights coach Mike Brown led Hempfield Area.
Gateway (2-4, 2-1) at Penn-Trafford (5-1, 1-1) – 7:30 p.m.

About the Gators: Gateway suffered a heartbreaking 29-28 loss at home against Armstrong last week in the Class 5A Big East Conference. Freshman QB Mayson Mitchell went 18-of-25 passing for 225 yards and two scores, while Shawn Moorefield Jr caught 10 passes for 154 yards and a TD. Julian Dancear added 15 carries for 118 yards on the ground. For the season, Mitchell is 70-of-108 for 941 yards and 10 TDs. Moorefield has snagged 33 receptions spanning 575 yards, while scoring a team-best six touchdowns. The Gators are permitting 32.1 points per game, the worst mark among teams in the conference. Don Holl is the veteran head coach for Gateway.
About the Warriors: Cody Yacamelli had a breakthrough performance to propel Penn-Trafford to a 33-14 triumph at Plum in nonconference play. Yacamelli compiled 115 yards on nine carries, totaling four scores for the Warriors. Nate Desmond threw for 96 yards, while Tyler Boss caught three passes spanning 45 yards. On the season, Desmond has hit on 59-of-102 throws for 956 yards, with four TDs and two interceptions. Nick Ponko leads PT receivers with 27 grabs for 440 yards, while Yacamelli paces the Warriors with 427 yards rushing and 10 total touchdowns. The Warriors boast a scoring advantage of 181-136.
About the Matchup: Gateway is alone in third in the Class 5A Big East Conference, while Penn-Trafford sits in fourth. Last season, the Warriors won the Battle of the Bell, 32-13. PT head coach John Ruane is a Gateway grad.
Derry Area (3-3, 0-1) at Elizabeth Forward (5-1, 1-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Trojans: Derry Area struggled to crack the Southmoreland defense in a 23-11 home setback in the Class 3A Interstate Conference lid lifter. Max Doherty rushed 25 times for 128 yards and the lone TD for the Trojans, while Dylan Pitzer’s sack caused a safety. On the year, Doherty has 124 carries for 794 yards, five receptions for 115 yards, and 11 TDs. Noah Stough has contributed 11 receptions for 299 yards. QB Anthony Sacco is 36-of-88 for 479 yards, with four TDs and seven interceptions.
About the Warriors: Although homestanding Greensburg Salem trailed by just seven points in the latter stages of the first half, Elizabeth Forward notched 35 unanswered points to claim a 49-7 win in the Class 3A Interstate Conference last week. Ryan Messina threw for 236 yards and two scores for the Warriors, while Logan Rider caught nine passes for 177 yards. On the year, Messina has completed 80-of-114 attempts for 1,226 yards, with a dozen scores, and he’s rushed 67 times for 452 yards and another six touchdowns. Landon Honick is his top target, registering 27 catches for 391 yards and five touchdowns. The Warriors have outpaced the competition 253-75 on the year. Johnny DeMarco serves at the helm of Elizabeth Forward.
About the Matchup: The Trojans were one of three teams who dropped the opener in the Class 3A Interstate Conference, while the Warriors were among the three squads to notch a victory. Last year, EF rolled to a 56-14 win.
Greensburg Central Catholic (3-3, 1-2) at Jeannette (3-3, 1-2) – 7 p.m.

About the Centurions: Greensburg Central Catholic tasted defeat 26-7 at Riverview on Saturday in Class 1A Eastern Conference play. With Samir Crosby conspicuous by his absence, the GCC offense did not score. The lone points came courtesy of a 79-yard kickoff return by Blase Bugosh. For the year, Crosby has accounted for 17 receptions for 234 yards, rushed 37 times for 314 yards, and posted nine total touchdowns. For the year, Greensburg Central Catholic has outscored the opposition, 142-126.
About the Jayhawks: Jeannette was blanked at home in a 57-0 loss against Clairton in the Class 1A Eastern Conference. The Bears notched a pair of pick-six scores, including one from Donte Wright, who scored three different ways. Quarterback Kymon’e Brown was limited to 54 yards passing and two interceptions for the Jayhawks, while Jayce Powell had two receptions for 38 yards and left with injury. Through six games, Brown has completed 49-of-110 throws for 954 yards, with nine TDs and five interceptions, and he’s posted 54 carries for 490 yards and nine scores on the ground. Powell, meanwhile, has compiled 24 grabs for 498 yards, scoring seven times. After a three-game winning streak, the Jayhawks have dropped two in a row.
About the Matchup: Greensburg Central Catholic and Jeannette are tied in fourth place, along with Frazier and Brentwood, in the Class 1A Eastern Conference. One year ago, the Centurions claimed a 44-27 victory.
Fox Chapel Area (2-4) at Franklin Regional (0-6) – 7 p.m.

About the Foxes: Fox Chapel Area suffered a 63-3 home loss to Pine-Richland last week in the Class 5A Northeast Conference in a game that was shortened. Harran Zureikat, a Georgia commit, booted a 54-yard field goal. QB Joe Geller was 5-of-15 for 37 yards and two interceptions. On the season, Geller has thrown for 684 yards, with seven TDs and six interceptions, and he also paces the Foxes with 64 carries for 226 yards. Max Melocchi leads Fox Chapel with 16 receptions for 343 yards and six touchdowns. Zureikat has connected on five field goals. The Foxes allow 38.3 points per game, by far the worst mark among teams in the conference. Coach Dave Leasure patrols the sidelines for Fox Chapel.
About the Panthers: Aven Shirley led host Kiski Area to a 14-7 victory against Franklin Regional in a Class 5A Big East Conference showdown last week. The Panthers avoided the shutout with a late TD connection from Dominick Devola to Evan Chadwick. Devola finished 7-of-19 through the air for 83 yards, with one score and two interceptions, while Amauri Jones-Lane notched 71 yards rushing on five attempts. On the campaign, Jet Taylor has amassed 117 carries for 491 yards and three scores, all team-highs, while Tyrone Leonard leads FR with 13 catches spanning 129 yards. The Panthers have scored 14 or fewer points in all but one contest.
About the Matchup: This is a 5A nonconference clash, as the Foxes reside in the Northeast Conference, while the Panthers call the Big East their home. Last year, Franklin Regional cruised to a 51-14 triumph.
Greater Latrobe (2-4, 1-2) at Kiski Area (2-4, 1-2) – 7 p.m.
About the Wildcats: Greater Latrobe had no answers for Scoop Smith, who scored four touchdowns to lead host Woodland Hills to a 33-9 triumph in the Class 5A Big East Conference one week ago. Mitch Horner accounted for all of the scoring for the Wildcats, as he booted field goals spanning 38, 34, and 33 yards. Dom Scarton threw for 137 yards in the setback for GL. For the season, Scarton has completed 48-of-108 throws for 575 yards, with two TDs and four interceptions. AJ Yeboah still leads the Wildcats with three TDs. Greater Latrobe is averaging 15.1 points per game.
About the Cavaliers: With Landyn Artman injured, Aven Shirley played quarterback and led host Kiski Area to a 14-7 victory against Franklin Regional in a Class 5A Big East Conference showdown last Friday. Shirley rushed 16 times for 152 yards and a score, and he also tossed an 18-yard TD pass to Teegan Shirley for the Cavaliers. On the season, Aven Shirley has thrown for 138 yards, with two TDs and three interceptions, he’s caught nine passes for 210 yards, and he’s rushed 33 times for 253 yards, compiling five total touchdowns. Teegan Shirley leads KA with 15 grabs for 247 yards, scoring twice. The Cavaliers’ offense musters 13.8 points per contest.
About the Matchup: The teams are tied in fifth in the Class 5A Big East Conference at 1-2. Last season, the Cavaliers reigned supreme, 36-13.
Belle Vernon Area (1-4, 0-1) at Chartiers Valley (5-1, 1-0) – 7 p.m.
About the Leopards: Turnovers doomed Belle Vernon Area, as the host Leopards fell 14-10 to Thomas Jefferson in a Class 4A Big Six Conference clash one week ago. A fourth-quarter fumble by BVA’s Curty Wade allowed the Jaguars to take the lead. Wade compiled 214 yards and a TD, along with two interceptions, on 13-of-17 attempts, while Chase Petrosky racked up 123 yards on the ground and Anthony Dicenzo notched a 73-yard TD reception for the Leopards. In 2025, Wade has posted 618 yards passing and rushed for 142 yards and a team-best three scores. Dicenzo leads BVA with 12 catches for 175 yards, while Nick Mahalko has contributed 11 receptions spanning 161 yards. Petrosky leads the ground game with 204 yards rushing.
About the Colts: Chartiers Valley won its fifth game in a row last week, a 62-7 shellacking of Laurel Highlands. During their surge, the Colts have twice scored 62 points. On the campaign, they have outscored their foes by a margin of 232-104. Steve Spence, who was previously an assistant coach at Washington & Jefferson College, is in his first season at the helm of Chartiers Valley.
About the Matchup: The Leopards were among three teams who dropped their opener in the Class 4A Big Six Conference last week, while the Colts were one of three teams to prevail. A year ago, BVA rolled to a 68-21 win.
Greensburg Salem (2-4, 0-1) at Mount Pleasant Area (4-2, 1-0) – 7 p.m.
About the Golden Lions: Although homestanding Greensburg Salem trailed by just seven points in the latter stages of the first half, Elizabeth Forward notched 35 unanswered points to claim a 49-7 win in the Class 3A Interstate Conference last week. With starting QB Brody Chismar out, Chris Berger went 6-of-18 for 133 yards and a score and three interceptions for the Golden Lions. Tyrese Lewis caught two passes for 61 yards and the lone TD for GS. Despite his absence last game, Chismar has compiled 664 yards passing and nine touchdowns, while adding 86 carries for 301 yards. LeTrey Derry has accumulated 233 yards on 48 carries. Tyrese Lewis leads GS with four scores.
About the Vikings: Dane Firmstone factored into touchdowns in three different ways, as Mount Pleasant Area steamrolled Yough 41-7 in a Class 3A Interstate Conference tilt last Friday. Firmstone rushed for a score, completed 5-of-10 passes for 48 yards and a touchdown, and returned a block punt for another TD for the Vikings. Additionally, Stephen Predajna rushed 16 times for 105 yards and a score, and Rage Suchar and Kaden Hudec also notched TD runs. To this point of the campaign, Richard Shawley leads the Vikings with 335 yards rushing, while Predajna and Hudec have posted 311 and 257 yards on the ground, respectively. Predajna paces Mount Pleasant with seven TDs.
About the Matchup: While the Golden Lions seek their first win in the Class 3A Interstate Conference, the Vikings are aiming to stay among the unbeatens in the conference. Last year, Mount Pleasant claimed a 28-21 victory at Offutt Field.
Southmoreland (6-0, 1-0) at Yough (2-4, 0-1) – 7 p.m.
About the Scotties: Led by quarterback Dawson Wolfe and a stout defense, Southmoreland remained undefeated with a 23-11 victory at Derry Area in the Class 3A Interstate Conference lid lifter last week. Wolfe went 12-of-19 for 179 yards and two scores, while Stanley Betters caught two passes for 58 yards and a score and Ty Whoric added two receptions for 37 yards and a TD for the Scotties. On the year, Wolfe has completed 55-of-92 passes for 737 yards, with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions, and he’s compiled 228 yards and seven scores on the ground. Makell Darnell is the top receiver, catching 19 passes for 228 yards. Jackson Mickens has registered a team-leading eight touchdowns. The Scotties have outpaced their adversaries 218-49.
About the Cougars: Yough was bested by Mount Pleasant Area 41-7 in a Class 3A Interstate Conference tilt one week ago. The Cougars’ lone score came in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard pass from Aiden Shaffer to Ryan Sarver, who caught nine passes for 42 yards. For the season, John Gergely leads Yough with 85 carries for 403 yards, while Sarver has snagged 22 receptions for 227 yards. Shaffer, meanwhile, has thrown for 296 yards and three TDs, and he’s compiled 331 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Yough has been outscored by a margin of 204-76.
About the Matchup: While the Scotties won their first game in the Class 3A Interstate Conference last week, the Cougars dropped their initial conference clash. Last year, Southmoreland won a high-scoring affair, 53-34. Scotties head coach Dustin Shoaf is a Yough alumnus.
Valley (0-6, 0-2) at Burrell (2-4, 1-1) – 7 p.m.
About the Vikings: Valley was overmatched in a 42-7 home defeat to Freeport Area, which scored all of its points in the first quarter, in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference last week. A 10-yard run by Juzef Betts accounted for the only points for the winless Vikings. Betts has scored twice this season, the only player on the Vikings with multiple TDs. Valley has been outscored 244-37.
About the Buccaneers: A late interception by Liam Perdue sealed a 29-28 victory for Burrell against East Allegheny in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference last week. Antonio Perkins rushed for 180 yards and all four TDs for the Buccaneers. Trey Coury also surpassed 100 yards rushing for Burrell. For the campaign, Perkins has thrown for 571 yards, while he’s posted 107 carries for 758 yards and a dozen scores on the ground. Coury has registered 290 yards rushing and 120 yards receiving.
About the Matchup: While the Vikings are one of two teams still searching for their first win in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference, the Bucs are alone in fourth place. Last year, the Battle of the Bypass went in favor of Burrell 15-6.
Chartiers-Houston (3-3, 1-2) at Monessen (4-2, 1-1) – 7 p.m.
About the Buccaneers: Chartiers-Houston was blanked 32-0 at home against Bishop Canevin last week in the Class 1A Black Hills Conference. For the season, QB Aaron Walsh has thrown for 427 yards and a pair of scores, while he’s compiled 429 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. Daniel Lis is in his second year at the helm of Buccaneers program.
About the Greyhounds: Monessen fell at home to South Side Beaver 21-7 in a nonconference clash last Friday. In the loss, Kayden Kolbeck connected with Tavian Taylor for a touchdown for the Greyhounds. On the year, Taylor paces Monessen with eight scores.
Charleroi (1-5) at Ligonier Valley (0-6) – 7 p.m.
About the Cougars: Charleroi claimed its initial victory of the campaign last week, a 45-26 home triumph against Sto-Rox. Brody DeUnger notched a pair of rushing scores in the win. On the year, QB Jaxson Klinger is 35-of-70 passing for 440 yards and a pair of TDs. Prior to last week’s offensive outburst, the Cougars had scored just 28 total points in the first five games. Scooter DeUnger serves as the head coach of Charleroi.
About the Rams: Ligonier Valley was overmatched 62-14 at South Allegheny in Class 2A Allegheny Conference play last Friday. Levi Foust went 3-of-15 passing with three interceptions in the setback, while he and Jacob Petalino notched rushing scores. On the season, Foust has completed 19-of-59 throws for 266 yards, with two scores and five interceptions, while he’s compiled 322 yards rushing. Greyson Daugherty is the top option in the passing game, snagging 22 receptions for 292 yards. The Rams have been outscored by a margin of 222-52 on the year.
About the Matchup: This Class 2A nonconference battle pits the Cougars, from the Century Conference, against the Rams, who compete in the Allegheny Conference. Last season, Ligonier Valley notched a 20-14 win.
