Norwin was denied its first-ever championship appearance, as the No. 3 Knights fell 35-17 at second-seeded North Allegheny in the WPIAL Class 6A semifinals. The Tigers exploded for 21 unanswered points, keyed by Luke Rohan, who had 181 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Additionally, Brady Brinkley connected with Cameron Kushner on a pair of long TD passes for the Tigers (8-3), who will face top-seeded Central Catholic next Saturday in the title game. In the defeat for the Knights (7-4), Tristyn Tavares completed 14-of-23 throws for 215 yards and a score and added a touchdown run, while Giovanni Rothrauff compiled 26 carries for 153 yards on the ground and Jake Knight hauled in an 80-yard score.
Moon Area 20 Penn-Trafford 13 WATCH
Penn-Trafford held a halftime lead, but Moon Area scored 17 points in the second half, claiming a 20-13 victory in the Class 5A quarterfinals. The No. 4 Warriors (9-2) produced a touchdown on their opening drive, capped by a 1-yard run from QB Nate Desmond, but could muster only a pair of field goals by Jack Miller for the rest of the contest. Desmond went 8-of-18 through the air for 80 yards for homestanding PT, while Ben Grabowski rushed 16 times for 79 yards and Cody Yacamelli posted 16 carries for 67 yards. Andrew Cross led the Tigers (9-3), going 9-of-13 through the air for 120 yards and two TDs, including the game-winning 15-yard connection to Sevi Vandetti with 3:23 left in the fourth quarter. Jayden Revis caught two passes spanning 81 yards, including a TD, for the Tigers. As a result, Moon will play top-seeded Pine-Richland in the 5A semifinals next week.
Clairton 38 Jeannette 33 LISTEN
Although Jeannette scored more points in the first half than Clairton had allowed total all season, the Bears edged the Jayhawks 38-33 in the WPIAL Class 1A quarterfinals at Franklin Regional High School. The duo of Kymon’e Brown and Jayce Powell was electric for the No. 10 Jayhawks (8-4). Brown went 13-of-29 passing for 232 yards and three touchdowns, while he added 11 carries for 116 yards and a score on the ground. Meanwhile, Powell caught eight passes for 146 yards, reaching the end zone twice. Noah Sunder added a TD reception, while McAllister Steele booted a pair of field goals. For the second-seeded Bears (11-1), Deon Lovelace-Pompey contributed 92 yards rushing and two TDs, while Donte Wright added 70 yards on the ground. Clairton will face No. 3 Bishop Canevin next week in the semifinals round.
