Eight Westmoreland County student-athletes will participate in the WPIAL girls tennis singles championships beginning Wednesday. The tournament will include two classifications, 3A and 2A, and will start with first round action on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
In Class 3A, Penn-Trafford freshman Amelia Williams received the No. 1 seed and will get a bye to the quarterfinals.
Class 3A first round match ups:
#9 Ellen Liu (Franklin Regional) vs. #8 Adelaide Kreutel (Oakland Catholic)
#12 Taylor Shanfelter (Greater Latrobe) vs. #5 Emily Wincko (North Allegheny)
#7 Avery Massaro (Greater Latrobe) vs. #10 Lily Sierka (Bethel Park)
Class 2A first round match ups:
#7 Gabriella Dusi (Belle Vernon) vs. #11 Peja Cruise (Montour)
#9 Sasha Hoffman (Greensburg CC) vs. #8 Kaitlin Kuczinski (Chartiers Valley)
#13 Sophia Smithnosky (Mount Pleasant) vs. #3 Nicole Kempton (South Park)
#15 Elisabeth Ervin (Valley) vs. #2 Emily Greb (Knoch)
The first three rounds of the Class 3A tournament will be played at North Allegheny on Wednesday with championship and consolation matches on Thursday at Bethel Park starting at 1 p.m. In Class 2A, all of the matches will be held at Bethel Park on the same days.
