Hempfield Area didn't need to go far to find its new football coach.

WSN has learned that Nick Keefer is expected to be named to the position at the school's next board meeting on Monday.

Keefer, an educator at Hempfield Area, was an assistant on former coach Mike Brown's staff last year. He previously served as a varsity assistant for the Spartans from 2011-2018 including three seasons as an offensive coordinator under former head coach Rich Bowen. He was the head coach of the freshman team from 2019-2021.

He has also served as a track and field coach at Hempfield Area for the last 10 years.

Keefer takes over for Brown who resigned after two seasons in January to take the same position at Norwin.
