Burrell 36 Kiski Area 34 WATCH MATCH BROADCAST
For the first time since 2011, Burrell came out on the winning side in its rivalry with Kiski Area Wednesday. The Buccaneers edged the Cavaliers 36-34 to snap a streak of 10 consecutive wins for Kiski Area in the series. The clinching victory came in the 121-pound bout as Burrell freshman Julian Bertucci pinned Kiski Area's Amari McNeil with 46 seconds left in the third period to put the Bucs in front 30-28. Despite a fall from Kiski Area's Ryan Klingensmith at 127 pounds, the Cavaliers were forced to forfeit the final match of the night to Cooper Hornack to give Burrell the victory. Niko Ferra (139) and Luke Boylan (215) posted pins for Burrell. Noah Henry (114), Ryan Klingensmith (127), Riley Shearer (142) and Jack Crider (285) registered falls for Kiski Area while Logan Bechtold defeated Nico Zanella in overtime at 160 pounds. The Buccaneers (2-0, 1-0) will compete in the King of the Mountain Tournament at Central Mountain High School this weekend while the Cavaliers (3-3, 0-0) will host the Kiski Area duals.
Valley 42 Derry Area 34
After an exciting win over Greensburg Salem last week, Valley earned a second Section 6-2A victory this week winning at Derry Area 42-34. Anthony Mucci (114), Dylan Klim (121) and Leo Filler captured wins by fall for the Trojans (4-3, 1-1) who will wrestle at rival Greater Latrobe on Monday. The Vikings (5-1, 2-0) will travel to Burrell next Wednesday.
Mount Pleasant 54 Elizabeth Forward 19
Mount Pleasant earned its second straight Section 2-2A victory defeating Elizabeth Forward on the road 54-19. Six Vikings wrestlers had pins including Joseph Longhi (121), Sean Cain (127), Jamison Poklembo (145), Kolton Turek (152), Ty Hornick (160) and Jacob Proctor-Kraus (285). Mount Pleasant (3-4, 2-0) will participate in the Panther Holiday Classic on Friday and Saturday at Mount Aloysius College.
Frazier 49 Southmoreland 24
Frazier captured victories in nine of the 13 matches en route to a 49-24 triumph over visiting Southmoreland in a Section 2-2A showdown. Earning falls for the Commodores were Shane Haller (113), Lincoln Dye (120), Ty Clark (127), Jonah Erdely (145), Jackson Angelo (172) and Rune Lawrence (189). Perhaps the biggest contest of the night came at 160 pounds as Frazier sophomore Ryan Celaschi used a second period escape to edge Southmoreland senior Tristan Ice by a 1-0 decision. The Scotties had pins from Kashton Bish (139), Shawn Hollis (152), Aidan Mains (215) and Mason Neiderhiser (HWT). Southmoreland (4-3, 1-1) will compete in the NursePro Plus Tournament in West Virginia this weekend. Frazier improves its record to (3-2, 1-0).
Ligonier Valley 36 Greensburg Salem 30
Ligonier Valley was victorious at Greensburg Salem 36-30 in a Section 2-2A match. The Rams are now 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the section while the Golden Lions fall to 2-5, 0-2.
