The WPIAL released the 2025 football playoff brackets on Saturday afternoon, as nine Westmoreland County teams qualified for the postseason. Penn-Trafford garnered a first-round bye, while Southmoreland also received a home game.
In Class 6A, Norwin garnered the third seed as a result of its third-place finish. In a four-team bracket, the semifinals will occur on Nov. 7, as the Knights play at second-seeded North Allegheny.
In the 5A bracket, the Warriors were seeded fourth, providing them a spot in the quarterfinals. Penn-Trafford, which finished as the runner-up in the Big East Conference, will host the winner of No. 5 Moon Area and No. 12 Armstrong. Also in the bracket, Kiski Area was seeded ninth as the third-place team from the Big East, as the Cavaliers will play at No. 8 Shaler Area on Friday at 7 p.m.
A trio of county teams made the field in Class 3A, led by the Scotties, who finished as runner-up from the Interstate Conference and received the seventh seed. As a result, Southmoreland will seek its first playoff win when it hosts No. 10 Hopewell on Friday at 7 p.m. Derry Area, which placed third from the Interstate, garnered the No. 11 seed, creating a matchup on the road against sixth seed Highlands on Friday at 7 p.m. Additionally, Burrell finished fourth from the Allegheny Seven Conference, and received a wild card bid. The Buccaneers, seeded No. 12, will play against No. 5 North Catholic at a site to be determined on Friday at 7 p.m.
Lastly in Class 1A, Jeannette, Greensburg Central Catholic, and Monessen all made the cut. The Jayhawks, who finished third from the Eastern Conference, earned the No. 10 seed. As a result, Jeannette will play at seventh-seeded Bentworth on Friday at 7 p.m. Greensburg Central Catholic, which placed fifth from the Eastern Conference, received a wild card spot. The No. 14 Centurions will play against third-seeded Bishop Canevin at Dormont Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. Lastly, Monessen received a wild card berth and the No. 15 seed after finishing fourth from the Black Hills Conference. Thus, the Greyhounds will travel to play homestanding No. 2 seed Clairton Friday at 7 p.m.
The Class 6A and 4A championships will be held at Pine-Richland High School on Nov. 15, while the other four classifications will be contested at Acrisure Stadium on Nov. 22.
