After one week of the WPIAL playoffs, the field of Westmoreland County teams has been reduced to just three. While Norwin and Penn-Trafford each commence postseason play this week, Jeannette is looking to continue its playoff surge after an upset win in the first round. Here’s a closer examination of the Westmoreland County games on the docket.
WPIAL Class 6A Semifinals: #3 Norwin (7-3) at #2 North Allegheny (7-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Knights: Although Norwin was idle last week, Giovanni Rothrauff enjoyed a robust performance two Fridays ago, leading host Norwin to a 14-7 win against Mount Lebanon in the Class 6A regular-season finale. Rothrauff compiled 260 yards rushing, while QB Tristyn Tavares hit on 13-of-23 passes for 152 yards and a TD, and also scored on a 1-yard run. Zack Pawling was on the receiving end of the 4-yard touchdown pass for the Knights. On the season, Tavares has completed 84-of-167 passes for 1,018 yards, with a dozen touchdowns and four interceptions, and he’s rushed 117 times for 720 yards, scoring 12 times on the ground. Rothrauff, meanwhile, has amassed 237 attempts for 1,424 yards, scoring nine total touchdowns. Potter Brozeski leads Norwin with 17 receptions for 378 yards, while Zack Pawling, Joshua Lenart, and Jake Knight also have double-digit catches. Norwin has outscored its foes by a margin of 279-180 on the year.
About the Tigers: When North Allegheny last played two weeks ago, the Tigers fell at Seneca Valley 21-18 in a Class 6A clash. In the setback, Luke Rohan rushed 24 times for 115 yards and one score, while QB Brady Brinkley completed 24-of-40 throws for 249 yards and a touchdown. Ben Kern was the top receiver, snagging eight catches for 81 yards, while Gavin Ust notched a receiving TD. On the year, Brinkley has hit on 123-of-217 attempts for 1,502 yards, with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions, while Rohan has 835 yards rushing and has found the end zone 13 times. The Tigers, who opened the year with five wins in a row but ended the regular season with consecutive losses, boast a scoring margin of 253-197. Art Walker Jr is the decorated head coach of North Allegheny.
About the Matchup: The winner advances to the WPIAL Class 6A Championship, and will play either top-seeded Central Catholic or No. 4 Canon-McMillan. When the teams met earlier this year at Norwin, the Tigers narrowly prevailed, 20-17.
WPIAL Class 5A Quarterfinals: #5 Moon Area (8-3) at #4 Penn-Trafford (9-1) – 7 p.m.

About the Tigers: Moon Area notched a 48-21 home win against No. 12 Armstrong last week in the opening round of the WPIAL Class 5A playoffs. Quarterback Andrew Cross was a catalyst, as he completed 8-of-11 throws for 59 yards, with a pair of touchdowns and an interception, while he added 10 carries for 110 yards and two scores on the ground. Daiveon Taylor posted 107 yards rushing and two scores, while Jayden Revis and Braeden Stuart caught TD passes. In 2025, Cross has completed 81-of-158 passes for 976 yards, with a dozen TDs and five picks, and he also paces the team with 470 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the ground. Stuart leads the Tigers with 28 receptions, while Sevi Vandetti has amassed 25 grabs spanning 377 yards. Evan Senkevich has booted eight field goals. The Tigers, who have won four in a row, have outscored their adversaries by a total of 288-188. Coach Ryan Linn patrols the sidelines for Moon.
About the Warriors: With Cody Yacamelli leading the way, host Penn-Trafford rolled to a 42-14 win against Greater Latrobe in a Class 5A Big East Conference tilt. The Warriors received 122 yards rushing and two scores on the ground, as well as a passing TD, from Yacamelli. Ben Grabowski contributed a dozen carries for 112 yards for PT. For the campaign, Grabowski has registered 102 carries for 794 yards and 11 scores, while Yacamelli has compiled 87 carries for 747 yards and a dozen TDs. Signalcaller Nate Desmond has gone 83-of-145 through the air for 1,385 yards, with 10 TDs and seven interceptions. Nick Ponko paces PT with 38 catches for 660 yards. Landyn Stikkel leads the Warriors with 62 tackles. Penn-Trafford, which is riding a six-game winning surge, holds a scoring advantage of 346-194 for the year.
About the Matchup: The winner advances to the Class 5A semifinals to play either top-seeded Pine-Richland or No. 8 Shaler Area. The teams squared off earlier this year at Moon, with PT claiming a thrilling 25-24 triumph.
WPIAL Class 1A Quarterfinals: #10 Jeannette (8-3) vs #2 Clairton (10-1) at Franklin Regional High School – 7 p.m.

About the Jayhawks: Jeannette scored 21 points in the final quarter last Friday, upsetting host Bentworth 38-24 in the opening round of the WPIAL Class 1A playoffs. Kymon’e Brown produced another prolific performance for the No. 10 Jayhawks, as he hit on 8-of-16 throws for 138 yards and a score, while adding 132 yards and another TD on the ground. Jayce Powell, Nick Mendoza, and Noah Sunder also found paydirt for Jeannette, which broke a 17-17 tie entering the fourth. On the season, Brown has completed 88-of-187 throws for 1,632 yards, with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions, while he's posted 111 carries for 1,001 yards, scoring 16 total TDs. Powell has contributed 41 catches for 843 yards, finding paydirt 13 times. McAllister Steele has converted eight field goals. Jeannette has outpaced its foes by a margin of 361-235 in 2025.
About the Bears: Clairton continued its stunning run of dominance last week in the WPIAL Class 1A first round, dismantling No. 15 Monessen 50-0. The Greyhounds were limited to -12 yards of offense, while the second-seeded Bears posted their ninth shutout in a row, not including a forfeit victory. Jeff Thompson passed for 175 yards and three TDs, adding another touchdown on the ground, while Deon Lovelace-Pompey rushed nine times for 114 yards and a pair of scores. For the year, Thompson has completed 109-of-137 attempts for 1,990 yards, with 35 touchdowns and one interception. Lovelace-Pompey has compiled 631 yards on the ground and 11 total TDs, while Donte Wright has registered a team-leading 17 scores. The Bears have outscored the opposition 532-19 for the year. Wayne Wade is the championship-winning head coach of Clairton.
About the Matchup: The winner advances to the Class 1A semifinals, and will face either No. 3 Bishop Canevin or No. 11 Frazier. Earlier this year, Clairton rolled to a 57-0 win at Jeannette.
