Riley McIntosh's first half goal gave No. 10 Penn-Trafford a 1-0 lead through halftime but seventh-seeded Upper St. Clair struck twice in the second half to beat the Warriors 2-1 in a WPIAL Class 4A first round match up. McIntosh's tally came with around 26 minutes remaining in the first half but Chloe Bird netted the equalizer nearly 15 minutes into the second half and Audrey Bodamer won the game with a late goal. Ella Shields notched a pair of goals for the Big Macs while Annalyse Bauer scored in her final game for the Wildcats (8-6-0). Canon-McMillan (9-6-1) advances to meet top seed Peters Township on Thursday.
Shaler Area 1 Franklin Regional 0 (3-2 PK's) (Class 3A Girls) - WATCH BROADCAST
No. 11 Shaler Area upset No. 6 Franklin Regional winning in penalty kicks, 3-2, to secure a 1-0 victory in a WPIAL Class 3A first round contest. Following 110 minutes of scoreless play - including two overtime periods - Franklin Regional appeared as if it would easily win the penalty kick shootout as Allyssa Velasquez and Grace Copeland both buried their attempts to put FR ahead 2-0. But the Titans rebounded to score three times, including the game-winning successful try by Allie Cieslak, to win 3-2. The Panthers (14-4-0) best scoring chance during regulation came in the second half when Velasquez found the back of the net but the goal was waved off due to a debatable foul call. Shaler Area (10-7-1) moves on to battle third-seeded Moon Area in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Mars Area 1 Kiski Area 0 (Class 3A Girls)
Miley Gratton's goal lifted fifth-seeded Mars to a 1-0 triumph over No. 12 Kiski Area in a WPIAL Class 3A first round showdown. The Fightin' Planets (14-3-1) advance to play No. 4 Plum on Thursday in the quarterfinals while the Cavaliers season ends with an (8-8-0) record.
