Norwin girls earn a bye, while Franklin Regional boys garner the No. 3 seed

The WPIAL unveiled its 2025 boys and girls soccer playoff brackets on Wednesday, as nearly two dozen Westmoreland County teams learned their potential path to a championship.

On the boys side in Class 4A, Norwin garnered the No. 6 seed. As a result, the Knights will host No. 11 Woodland Hills on Tuesday at 8 p.m. In the same bracket, Hempfield Area was seeded No. 12, setting up a match at fifth-seeded Canon-McMillan on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

In Class 3A, Franklin Regional received the third seed, as the Panthers will host No. 14 Montour on Saturday at 1 p.m. Also in the bracket, Greater Latrobe received the ninth seed, as the Wildcats will trek to play No. 8 West Allegheny on Saturday at 2 p.m. Penn-Trafford is seeded No. 10, as the Warriors will face host and seven seed Mars Area on Saturday at noon. Lastly, Belle Vernon Area received the No. 16 seed, and the Leopards will host No. 17 Ringgold in the preliminary-round match on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Area received the fifth seed in the Class 2A field, as the Vikings will play at home against No. 12 Elizabeth Forward on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Yough is seeded No. 14, pitting the Cougars against third-seeded North Catholic at Dormont Stadium on Monday at 6 p.m. Southmoreland garnered the No. 16 seed, as the Scotties will play on the road against top-seeded South Park on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

In Class 1A, Greensburg Central Catholic earned the No. 15 seed, as the Centurions will face No. 2 Our Lady of the Sacred Heart at Moon Area High School on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In the girls field in Class 4A, Norwin garnered the third seed and a first-round bye. The Knights will host the winner of No. 6 Mount Lebanon and No. 11 Butler Area in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Oct. 23. Also in the bracket, Greater Latrobe is seeded No. 9, as the Wildcats will play at eighth-seeded Canon-McMillan on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, Penn-Trafford received the No. 10 seed, pitting the Warriors against No. 7 seed and host Upper St. Clair on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

In Class 3A, Franklin Regional was tabbed as the sixth seed, as the Panthers will play at home against No. 11 Shaler Area on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Also, Kiski Area received the No. 12 seed, as the Cavaliers will play at No. 5 Mars Area on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

In the 2A field, Mount Pleasant Area girls earned the fourth seed, as the Vikings will play host to No. 13 Avonworth on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Burrell received the No. 8 seed, as the Buccaneers will welcome No. 9 Belle Vernon Area in an all-Westmoreland clash on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Southmoreland was seeded No. 14, as the Scotties will trek to play homestanding Quaker Valley on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Lastly, Yough received the No. 16 seed, setting up a matchup against No. 1 seed and homestanding South Park on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

In Class 1A, Greensburg Central Catholic secured the No. 17 seed, as the Centurions will play at No. 16 the Ellis School in a preliminary matchup on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The championship games will be held at Highmark Stadium in Station Square from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1.
