Westmoreland County softball game recaps from Monday, April 13th 2026:

Hempfield Area 17 Pine-Richland 2 (5 innings)

Hempfield Area’s prolific offense was at the forefront in a 17-2 five-inning road victory at Pine-Richland in Section 1-6A. Ella Berkebile led the charge, going 4-for-4 with five RBIs, while Claire Mitchell blasted a home run, as she and Emily Bozek each notched a pair of runs batted in for the Spartans (9-1, 7-0). Abbey Laurent homered in the defeat for the Rams (3-7, 2-6).

Norwin 5 Canon-McMillan 4

Homestanding Norwin edged Canon-McMillan 5-4 in a Section 1-6A battle. Madelyn Kugler went 3-for-4 with a home run and Chloe Bavolar had a pair of RBIs, while Abbie Telli earned the win in the circle for the Knights (5-3, 5-1). Brooke Bumer produced two RBIs in the setback for the Big Macs (5-4, 4-4).

Greater Latrobe 17 Franklin Regional 7 (6 innings)

An explosive offensive performance carried Greater Latrobe to a 17-7 home win in six innings against Franklin Regional in Section 2-5A play. Natalia Scekeres delivered a grand slam for the Wildcats (6-4, 4-3), Morgan Maiers went 3-for-4, including a home run, and drove in four, and Sara Blossey went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Ava Rhoten was a bright spot for the Panthers (3-11, 3-5), as she had a pair of hits, including a home run, and brought in four runs.

Penn-Trafford 13 McKeesport Area 2 (5 innings)

Penn-Trafford cruised to a 13-2 win in five innings at McKeesport Area in Section 2-5A play. Aria Smith had a pair of extra-base hits, and Annabell Carvajal amassed two RBIs, while Ella Mains and Julia Salvador registered doubles for the Warriors (9-2, 6-1). Kendal Black and Tori Thomas accounted for the runs batted in for the Tigers (1-9, 0-9).

Kiski Area 5 Armstrong 2

Alyssa Perona’s big effort proved the difference in Kiski Area’s 5-2 home win against Armstrong in a Section 2-5A battle. Perona belted a home run and registered three runs batted in for the Cavaliers (10-2, 7-2), while Kaylee Morrow added a triple and an RBI, and Madison Rearic racked up eight strikeouts in the circle. In the loss, the River Hawks (7-4, 7-2) were led by Sophia Shumaker, who had two hits and two RBIs.

Indiana Area 5 Derry Area 0

Derry Area’s bats were silenced in a 5-0 loss at Indiana Area in a Section 1-4A clash. The Trojans (4-4, 3-3) had no answers against pitcher Samantha Martin, while Claire Brewer and Sophia Boyer each homered for the Little Indians (8-2, 7-0).

Mount Pleasant 12 Burrell 2 (6 innings)

Mount Pleasant Area stayed perfect in section play, courtesy of a 12-2 triumph in six innings at Burrell in Section 1-3A play. Carly Surman went 4-for-4 and scored three times for the Vikings (8-1, 6-0), Kendra Brunson smacked a three-run homer, and Talia Reho produced a two-run single. In the circle, Danica Trainer threw a complete game, permitting seven hits and issuing two walks, while striking out six. In the defeat, the Buccaneers (5-5, 3-3) were paced by Addy Wojtczak, who had two hits, while Shelby Novak had a two-run double.
