As the finish line for the WPIAL football regular season is on the horizon, this serves as the penultimate week. Multiple teams in Westmoreland County have the opportunity to secure playoff berths this week, while others face elimination from contention. Here’s a detailed breakdown of all of the games across Westmoreland County in Week Eight.

Canon-McMillan (4-4, 2-2) at Norwin (5-3, 2-2) - 7 p.m.

About the Big Macs: Canon-McMillan was narrowly edged at North Allegheny 21-13 last week in Class 6A play. In the defeat, Ty Jansma went 13-of-25 passing for 154 yards and a touchdown, while TJ Sabatucci caught three passes for 82 yards and a score. Mason Calgaro paced the rushing attack with eight rushes for 57 yards. On the year, Jansma has completed 94-of-186 throws for 1,468 yards and a dozen scores, with four interceptions. Ethan Campoli leads the Big Macs with 32 receptions for 500 yards, while Sabatucci has hauled in 22 receptions for 476 yards, and they are tied for the team-lead with seven touchdowns. The Big Macs have been outscored by a margin of 233-176 on the season. Brian DeLallo is serving at the helm of Canon-McMillan this season.

About the Knights: Norwin played a rare Thursday game last week, falling to Pittsburgh Central Catholic 35-6 in Class 6A action. In the defeat, Tristyn Tavares went 10-of-21 passing for 108 yards and a touchdown, while Potter Brozeski caught four passes for 76 yards and a TD. Moreover, Giovanni Rothrauff rushed 19 times for 65 yards. On the campaign, Tavares has completed 58-of-118 attempts for 782 yards, with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions, while he’s rushed for 579 yards and a team-best nine scores on the ground. Rothrauff has accumulated 183 carries for 1,051 yards, scoring eight times. Brozeski leads Norwin receivers with a dozen grabs spanning 313 yards. The Knights average 30.1 points per game, the second-best mark among Class 6A squads.

Quinn Olson provided an 86-yard kickoff return for the River Hawks. For the year, Olson leads the WPIAL with 58 receptions, compiling 702 receiving yards and notching eight total touchdowns. Quarterback Jaydon Oliver has hit on 75-of-125 throws for 1,055 yards, with five TDs and five picks, while he’s also rushed 56 times for 291 yards and five scores. Costa Couknas has registered 131 carries for 626 yards and seven TDs. The River Hawks have permitted 33.1 points per game. Veteran coach Frank Fabian patrols the sidelines for Armstrong.

About the Warriors: Ben Grabowski proved explosive in leading Penn-Trafford to a convincing 48-14 win at Franklin Regional in Class 5A Big East Conference play last Friday. Grabowski registered four carries for 172 yard and three scores for the Warriors. Nate Desmond was 9-of-14 passing for 145 yards and a score for the Warriors, while Nick Ponko snagged five receptions for 79 yards and a TD. For the season, Desmond has completed 73-of-125 throws for 1,161 yards, with five touchdowns and five interceptions. His favorite target is Landon Honick, who has caught 30 passes for 508 yards, scoring eight times. Aaron Ulmer, Logan Rider, and Brendan Stroschein have all surpassed 200 yards receiving, as well. Rocco Thompson has contributed 335 yards rushing and is tied with Honick with eight scores. The Warriors have outpaced their adversaries by a margin of 364-89. About the Scotties: Cam Lee returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown and Averyon Darnell scored on a 3-yard plunge, as Southmoreland topped Mount Pleasant 14-0 in an Interstate Conference showdown last Friday. The Scotties forced three turnovers and limited the Vikings to just 103 total yards. For the campaign, Predajna has registered 95 carries for 492 yards, scoring a team-leading eight touchdowns. Firmstone, meanwhile, has connected on 41-of-87 throws for 555 yards, with four scores and four interceptions, while he’s rushed for 254 yards and six touchdowns. Mount Pleasant holds a scoring advantage of 217-168.

About the Trojans: With Max Doherty scoring four times, Derry Area bested homestanding Greensburg Salem 43-28 in the Class 3A Interstate Conference battle last Friday. Doherty notched 23 attempts spanning 125 yards, while Trojans signalcaller Anthony Sacco went 5-of-7 for 162 yards and a pair of scores. Karsen Weiers caught both of those TDs, as he totaled three catches for 142 yards. Through eight games, Doherty has compiled 163 carries for 954 yards, notching 15 touchdowns. Karsen Weiers leads the Trojans with 15 receptions for 299 yards, while Sacco has thrown for 732 yards, with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Hempfield Area (4-4, 1-4) at Mount Lebanon (1-7, 1-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Spartans: Hempfield Area was overwhelmed in a 47-8 home defeat against Seneca Valley in a Class 6A matchup last Friday. Jack Kopas hauled in five passes for 74 yards and the only touchdown for the Spartans. For the year, quarterback Dom Detruf has completed 119-of-179 throws for 1,656 yards, with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions, while he’s added 189 yards on the ground. Kopas paces the receivers with 43 grabs for 578 yards, scoring a team-best nine TDs. Aidan Stinebiser has accumulated 511 yards rushing on 59 attempts, reaching the end zone seven times. Hempfield Area is allowing 33.6 points per contest, the worst mark among teams in Class 6A.

About the Blue Devils: Mount Lebanon fell at home to Penn Hills 19-14 last week in a nonconference clash. In the setback, quarterback Pat Smith rushed 32 times for 180 yards and a score, while he was 11-of-28 passing for 78 yards, with one score and four interceptions. Kris Kambitsis caught six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown. On the year, Smith has completed 83-of-177 throws for 965 yards, with four TDs and nine interceptions, while he’s accumulated 181 carries for 961 yards and 10 touchdowns. Franklin Regional (1-7, 0-4) at Woodland Hills (6-2, 4-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Panthers: Franklin Regional had no answer for Ben Grabowski, who led Penn-Trafford to a convincing 48-14 win in Class 5A Big East Conference play last Friday. Kaydon Ferrell and Jet Taylor scored touchdowns for the Panthers, with Ferrell’s TD coming on a pick-six. To this point of the season, Franklin Regional QB Dominick Devola has completed 54-of-119 throws for 582 yards, with four TDs and six interceptions. Taylor paces the ground game, rushing 156 times for 622 yards and five scores. FR has been outscored by a margin of 240-110.

About the Wolverines: Woodland Hills claimed a 42-28 victory at Gateway last week in a Class 5A Big East Conference battle. Scoop Smith caught six passes for 103 yards, rushed four times for 87 yards and a TD, and produced a 70-yard kickoff return TD. Cam Walter completed 9-of-15 attempts for 139 yards and two touchdowns. On the year, Walter has thrown for 1,196 yards and 12 touchdowns, along with four interceptions. Smith leads the Wolverines with 40 catches for 640 yards, and he’s added 368 yards on the ground, notching 15 total touchdowns. Taylor Reid anchors the rushing game, with 106 carries for 836 yards and 13 TDs. The Wolverines have scored 33 or more points in each of their wins. Coach Brian Tarrant patrols the sidelines for Woodland Hills.

About the Matchup: While Franklin Regional is in last place in the Class 5A Big East Conference, Woodland Hills is in first place. The Wolverines have already secured a playoff bid, and would take the conference crown with a victory. Last year, Woodland Hills scored a 27-17 win.

Gateway (2-6 2-3) at Greater Latrobe (2-6, 1-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Gators: Gateway fell at home to Woodland Hills 42-28 one week ago. In the loss, QB Mayson Mitchell went 20-of-40 passing for 209 yards, while Julian Dancear posted 22 carries for 137 yards and a touchdown, while adding six catches for 56 yards. In 2025, Mitchell has gone 111-of-182 for 1,400 yards, with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Shawn Moorefield Jr has accumulated 51 catches for 784 yards, scoring a team-leading eight touchdowns. Dancear has racked up 82 carries for 558 yards. About the Wildcats: Greater Latrobe was overmatched in a 43-7 home loss to Pine-Richland in a Class 5A nonconference tilt last Friday. Dom Scarton tossed a 49-yard touchdown pass to Sawyer Butina to account for the lone score for the Wildcats. On the season, Scarton has gone 63-of-135 passing for 703 yards, with three scores and seven interceptions. Butina leads GL with 17 grabs for 251 yards. Ringgold (4-4, 1-2) at Belle Vernon Area (2-5, 1-2) – 7 p.m.

About the Rams: Ringgold was overmatched last week in a 42-6 loss at Thomas Jefferson in the Class 4A Big Six Conference. Demetri Lowe caught four passes for 55 yards and the only TD for the Rams, while Dennis Hawkins went 6-of-15 passing for 66 yards and a score. For the year, Hawkins has hit on 61-of-116 throws for 983 yards, with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions, while Lowe has caught 42 passes for 663 yards, scoring six times. Amoni Ward paces the Rams’ rushing attack, registering 123 carries for 1,031 yards, scoring a team-high 11 touchdowns. The Rams have outscored their foes 229-185 on the season. About the Leopards: Curty Wade used his legs to carry Belle Vernon Area to a dominant 48-6 win at Laurel Highlands in Class 4A Big Six Conference play last Friday. Wade posted 101 yards and three scores on the ground, while Chace Petrosky added two rushing TDs for the Leopards. In 2025, Petrosky has 84 carries for 622 yards, scoring seven times. Anthony Dicenzo leads BVA with 21 catches spanning 305 yards. Wade has hit on 61-of-94 passes for 798 yards, with three touchdowns and seven interceptions, while he’s rushed for 352 yards and seven TDs. Belle Vernon Area is averaging 19.8 points per contest.

Yough (2-6, 0-3) at Greensburg Salem (2-6, 0-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Cougars: Yough had no answer for Ryan Messina, who threw for four TD passes in leading Elizabeth Forward to a lopsided 55-7 win against the Cougars in the Class 3A Interstate Conference last Friday. Aidan Shaffer connected with Ryan Sarver on a 70-yard TD for the lone score for the Cougars, as Sarver compiled five receptions for 94 yards. For the season, Shaffer has passed for 435 yards, while he’s rushed for 384 yards and a team-high five touchdowns. Sarver, meanwhile, has collected 27 receptions for 340 yards. During their six-game skid, the Cougars have scored just 20 combined points.

About the Golden Lions: Derry Area bested homestanding Greensburg Salem 43-28 in the Class 3A Interstate Conference battle last week. LeTrey Derry produced three scores for the Golden Lions, a pair of rushing scores and an 87-yard kickoff return, while Brody Chismar passed for 182 yards and a score and rushed for 57 yards. For the season, Chismar has hit on 80-of-150 throws for 1,101 yards, with a dozen scores and three interceptions, while he’s compiled 113 carries for 381 yards. Max Topper is his favorite target with 25 catches for 352 yards, while Tyrese Lewis and Jackson Stevey each have collected 18 receptions. Derry paces GS with five touchdowns. Burrell (3-5, 2-2) at Imani Christian Academy (8-0, 4-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Buccaneers: Despite prolific performances from Antonio Perkins and Trey Coury, Burrell sustained a 42-21 home loss against Highlands in Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference action last week. Perkins notched 29 carries for 155 yards, while Coury amassed 25 rushes for 150 yards for the Buccaneers. On the campaign, Perkins has rushed 162 times for 1,216 yards, scoring 18 times, while he’s gone 62-of-113 as a passer for 663 yards. Coury has added 130 carries for 599 yards and four TDs. Zack Coudriet is the top receiver for the Bucs, as he’s registered 25 catches for 285 yards. Burrell has allowed 31.2 points per game.

About the Saints: Imani Christian Academy smacked host Deer Lakes 56-14 last week in Class 3A Allegheny Seven play. Gabe Jenkins hit 10-of-17 throws for 233 yards and five TDs, while he also rushed for a score. Daniel Stephens caught four passes for 121 yards and three scores, while Tyvon Sewell rushed five times for 91 yards. On the season, Jenkins has thrown for 827 yards and 14 TDs, while he’s amassed 755 yards and seven scores on 75 carries. David Davis leads the Saints with 10 touchdowns. The Saints have outpaced their foes by a margin of 370-52. LaRoi Johnson is the head coach of Imani Christian.

About the Matchup: The Saints sit atop the standings in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference, and they’d clinch a postseason spot with a victory. The Buccaneers, meanwhile, are alone in fourth. Last year, Imani Christian dominated, 60-6.

Deer Lakes (1-7, 0-4) at Valley (0-8, 0-4) – 7 p.m.

About the Lancers: Deer Lakes was overmatched in a 56-14 home loss to Imani Christian Academy last week in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference. Ryan Love was a bright spot, rushing 23 times for 89 yards and a touchdown. On the year, Lowe is deadlocked with Luca Mangieri with five touchdowns. The Lancers, who have lost seven in a row, have been outpaced 274-93 on the year. Veteran coach Tim Burk remains at the helm of Deer Lakes.

About the Vikings: Valley could not contain Chris Portis, who sparked East Allegheny to a 16-10 victory in the Class 3A Allegheny Seven Conference last Friday. The Vikings’ only TD came on a connection from Skylar Lincoln to Raymond Loury. Juzef Betts and Sean Wilkerson lead the Vikings with two touchdowns apiece. The Vikings have not won since Sept. 22, 2023.

Ligonier Valley (1-7, 0-4) at Steel Valley (5-3, 3-1) – 7 p.m.

About the Rams: Despite a big effort by Levi Foust, Ligonier Valley suffered a 42-21 loss at home against South Park in Class 2A Allegheny Conference action a week ago. Foust compiled 122 yards and two scores on the ground for the Rams. On the year, Foust has accumulated 88 carries for 567 yards and scored a team-best six touchdowns, while he’s also thrown for 359 yards and three scores, but with eight interceptions. Greyson Daugherty is the top receiver for LV, as he’s snagged 26 receptions for 349 yards, scoring four times. The Rams have permitted an average of 34.6 points per game, the worst mark among Class 2A Allegheny Conference squads.

About the Ironmen: Steel Valley notched a 38-6 win last Saturday on the road against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in a Class 2A Allegheny Conference tussle. Da’Ron Barksdale rushed 13 times for 107 yards and a touchdown, and he added a 59-yard interception return score. On the season, Barksdale has posted 153 carries for 1,089 yards, scoring 17 total TDs. The Ironmen are allowing just 10.7 points per game. Coach Ray Braszo patrols the sidelines for Steel Valley.

About the Matchup: While the Rams are the lone winless team in Class 2A Allegheny Conference action, the Ironmen are tied for second place and would clinch a playoff berth with a win. Last year, Steel Valley throttled Ligonier Valley 53-7.

Jeannette (5-3, 3-2) at Springdale (0-6, 0-4) – 7 p.m.

About the Jayhawks: With Kymon’e Brown leading the way, Jeannette edged Brentwood 23-18 in a Class 1A Eastern Conference showdown last Friday. Brown amassed 149 yards passing and a score, and he rushed for 128 yards and another TD on the ground for the host Jayhawks. To this point, Brown has connected on 68-of-145 throws for 1,251 yards, with 12 TDs and five picks, while he’s amassed 757 yards on 85 carries, notching a dozen touchdowns on the ground. Jayce Powell has compiled 34 catches for 662 yards and eight touchdowns. Jeannette is averaging 29.6 points per game.

About the Dynamos: Springdale was overmatched last Friday in a 52-14 setback at Greensburg Central Catholic in the Class 1A Eastern Conference. Corey Brooks registered six carries for 51 yards and a score for the Dynamos, while Will Fowler also added a rushing touchdown. The Dynamos, who have played in just six games thus far, have been outscored 286-42. Chad Walsh is at the helm of Springdale.

About the Matchup: Jeannette is in third place in the Class 1A Eastern Conference, while Springdale is the lone team yet to claim a victory. A year ago, the Jayhawks whitewashed the Dynamos 42-0. After previously playing at Veteran’s Memorial Field, Springdale now plays its games at a new stadium across from the high school.

Frazier (4-4, 2-3) at Greensburg Central Catholic (4-4, 2-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Commodores: Frazier ousted Riverview 41-20 last week in Class 1A Eastern Conference play. Derek Diamond had a game for the ages for the Commodores, as he rushed 37 times for 284 yards and five touchdowns. For the year, Diamond has registered 200 carries, which tops the entire WPIAL, amassing 1,247 yards, scoring a dozen touchdowns. Quarterback Brady Seacrest has thrown for 869 yards and eight scores, while Chase Fulmer has 43 receptions for 493 yards. Tony Battaglini serves as the head coach of Frazier.

About the Centurions: Greensburg Central Catholic was dominant in a 52-14 win at home against Springdale in the Class 1A Eastern Conference last week. Samir Crosby notched two rushing touchdowns, posted a TD reception, and also threw a score for the Centurions, who led 45-0 at the half. On the campaign, Crosby has 60 carries for 634 yards, caught 18 passes for 242 yards, and has found paydirt 13 times. Additionally, Crosby has hit on 11-of-20 passes for 193 yards and two scores. Bobby Smithnosky has played the majority of snaps at QB, though, connecting on 48-of-78 throws for 595 yards, with nine TDs and four interceptions. The Centurions boast a scoring margin of 216-177.

Bishop Canevin (5-3, 3-1) at Monessen (5-3, 2-2) – 7 p.m.

About the Crusaders: Bishop Canevin tasted defeat 56-19 at Fort Cherry last week in a Class 1A Black Hills Conference test. On the year, Myontae Mott leads the offense with 542 yards rushing and 12 total touchdowns. The Crusaders are under the guidance of veteran coach Rod Steele.

About the Greyhounds: Monessen earned the victory against homestanding Burgettstown 40-21 last week in the Class 1A Black Hills Conference. Tavian Taylor produced 19 carries for 94 yards and a score for the Greyhounds. On the campaign, Taylor has contributed 89 carries for 641 yards and a team-best 10 touchdowns.

Kiski Area (4-4, 3-2) at Plum (3-5, 1-3) – 7 p.m.

About the Cavaliers: Landyn Artman propelled Kiski Area to a 27-25 home victory against Armstrong in the Class 5A Big East Conference last week. The Cavaliers QB compiled 289 yards through the air and two TDs, with Aven and Teegan Shirley each on the receiving end of a score. Ashton Taylor added two rushing scores for the Cavs. On the season, Artman has hit on 68-of-124 throws for 1,055 yards, with 13 touchdowns and two interceptions, despite missing more than two games with injury. Aven Shirley has racked up 22 receptions for 465 yards and a team-best seven touchdowns, while Teegan Shirley has 23 catches for 397 yards and five scores. The Cavaliers have been outscored by a margin of 206-144 in 2025.

About the Mustangs: Plum claimed a lopsided 35-0 victory at Fox Chapel Area last week in a Class 5A Northeast Conference tilt. CJ Hart registered a dozen carries for 112 yards and two scores, while Elijah Jackson contributed 18 carries for 162 yards. On the year, quarterback John Nonnenberg has completed 82-of-153 throws for 1,098 yards, with nine touchdowns and six interceptions. Jackson leads the Mustangs with 93 carries spanning 508 yards, while Hart has 415 yards on the ground and a team-best six touchdowns. Nico Signor paces Plum with 27 catches for 410 yards.
