Westmoreland County girls basketball game recaps from Thursday, January 22nd, 2026:

Norwin 60 Connellsville 29

Norwin pulled away in the second quarter, holding a 20-8 scoring edge, in a 60-29 drubbing of Connellsville in Section 2-6A. Four players finished in double figures for the Knights including Giuliana Giannikis (14), Nia O'Barto (12), Liz Yarosik (12) and Aubrey Graney (11). Saige Mickens tallied 12 points for the Falcons (5-12, 1-5). Norwin improves to (13-2, 5-1).

Hempfield Area 40 Mount Lebanon 23

Hempfield Area outscored Mount Lebanon 12-1 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 40-23 victory against Mount Lebanon in a Section 2-6A contest. Reagan Fisher's 14 points paced the Spartans (11-6, 2-4) with teammate Gabby Coccia scoring 12. Anessa Donoghue finished with 11 points for the Blue Devils (4-11, 2-4).

Greater Latrobe 55 McKeesport 40

Morgan and Maggie Maiers each posted double-doubles to help lead Greater Latrobe to a 55-40 Section 2-5A triumph over McKeesport. The sisters each had 18 points while Morgan pulled down 19 rebounds and Maggie secured 10 boards for the Wildcats (9-5, 6-3). Dannah Sebella put in 17 points for the Tigers (9-9, 2-7).

Burrell 70 Derry Area 11

Chase Coury put in 16 points as Burrell breezed to a 70-11 win at Derry Area in Section 1-4A play. In addition to Chase Coury, Kendall Coury added 12 points for the Bucs (12-4, 6-2). Eliana Murawski scored six points for the Trojans (3-12, 1-7).

Belle Vernon 42 South Park 32

Belle Vernon trailed by one point after the first quarter but held the scoring edge the rest of the way as the Leopards earned a key 42-32 victory at South Park in a Section 3-4A game. Down 13-12, Belle Vernon outscored the Eagles 7-2 in the second quarter, 12-10 in the third and 11-7 in the fourth. Abby Russell had a team-high nine points for Belle Vernon (15-3, 9-1) while Hayley Bennett netted nine for South Park (11-7, 8-2). The Leopards are tied for first place with Elizabeth Forward and host the Warriors on Monday night.

Elizabeth Forward 54 Mount Pleasant 28

Elizabeth Forward outscored Mount Pleasant 20-4 in the second quarter to take ahold of the game and secure a 54-28 Section 3-4A victory. Kaelynn Settles registered 15 points for the Warriors (13-4, 9-1) while Kristina Spallone put in eight for the Vikings (7-10, 4-6).

Laurel Highlands 48 Southmoreland 26

Southmoreland was shutout in the second quarter in a 48-26 loss to Laurel Highlands in Section 3-4A. Taylor Schertteger finished with 16 points for the Mustangs (6-12, 4-6) while the Scotties fall to (1-17, 0-10).

Ringgold 50 Yough 43

Carly Fitzgibbons' 17 points were not enough for Yough as the Cougars dropped a 50-43 decision to visiting Ringgold in Section 3-4A. In addition to Fizgibbons, Evelyn Gates chipped in with 12 points for Yough (7-11, 1-9). Alayna Macioce ended with 13 points for the Rams (8-8, 5-5).

Greensburg Central Catholic 71 South Allegheny 10

Erica Gribble went off for 26 points in Greensburg Central Catholic's 71-10 blowout of South Allegheny in Section 2-3A. Along with Gribble, Jayla Peterson also reached double figures with 14 points for the Centurions (12-5, 9-1). The Gladiators are now (4-14, 3-7).

Riverview 55 Jeannette 50

Navarah Smith had a huge game for Jeannette, scoring 28 points, but the Jayhawks couldn't win a tight game losing to Riverview 55-50 in Section 4-2A. Leah DeFelice tallied 10 points for Jeannette (11-5, 2-3) while Lana Lynch and Mia Murphy each put in 14 for the Raiders (8-6, 4-2).
