The 72nd annual Westmoreland County Coaches Association Wrestling Tournament delivered two full days of intensity, tradition, and history Saturday at Greensburg Salem High School, highlighted by milestone victories and a long-awaited team championship.

Burrell’s Cameron Baker and Derry Area’s Mason Horwat each captured their third county titles with dominant championship performances.

At 127 pounds, Baker put on an offensive clinic in the finals, overwhelming Penn-Trafford’s Luke DeSantis in a 21-5 technical fall. Baker controlled the pace from the opening whistle, stringing together takedowns and near-fall points to secure his place among the tournament’s elite three-time champions.

Horwat followed suit at 172 pounds by cruising to a 15-0 technical fall victory over Franklin Regional’s Ethan Cartwright, closing out another flawless county run and further cementing his reputation as one of the area’s most dominant upper-weight wrestlers.

One of the day’s most memorable moments came at 121 pounds, where Norwin’s Landon Sidun reached a career milestone. Sidun earned his 100th victory in convincing fashion, defeating Penn-Trafford’s Dylan Barrett 21-6. Sidun, the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 121 pounds in Pennsylvania, celebrated the win with his teammates who brought out a special banner recognizing the achievement.

The tournament also produced a historic team result. Norwin captured the team championship for the first time since 1975, finishing atop the standings with 231 points. The Knights’ depth across weight classes proved decisive in ending a nearly 50-year title drought.

In addition to Sidun, Dom Butera and Jack White also captured championships.

Franklin Regional finished second with 209 points bolstered by Chase Smith, Max Firestine and Michael Ruane who all won titles. Derry Area saw three of its wrestlers claim titles including Horwat, Mason Keesecker and Patrick Bulger. The Trojans finished third in the team race with 186.5 points.

The night ended with Greensburg Salem's David Peters earning a 4-1 decision over Southmoreland's Kaden Shannon in the 285-pound final.
