Dom Delio painted a masterpiece, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning leading Trafford to a 6-1 victory over 14th Ward (Woodland Hills) in the Westmoreland County Junior Legion League Championship Tuesday.

Delio didn't allow a baserunner through the first six innings until Steven Okonkwo's single to lead off the seventh broke up the perfect game bid. The right-hander struck out 10 batters and gave way to Evan Gigliotti to get the final out of the game.

"Normally I pitch to contact but they couldn't really hit it today so I was just doing what I normally do," Delio said afterward.

"Dom's a great teammate, great player and has all the confidence in the world when he's out on the mound," manager Steve Freas commented. "Our plan was maybe pitch him a couple innings, but Dom wasn't letting that happen tonight."

Trafford broke a scoreless tie in the third inning as Cameron King singled and scored on an error to make it 1-0. The advantage swelled to 5-0 in the fourth inning as Gigliotti cracked a two-run double, Peyton Mastro forced in a run with a walk and Jordan White was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Trafford got an insurance run in the fifth when Ben Grabowski clubbed a home run to left field.

14th Ward scored in the seventh as Mario Cutillo singled in a run but left the bases loaded when Gigliotti struck out James Moneck to end the game.

"We talked from the beginning of the year that we wanted to start with the league championship and so the guys are hungry," Freas said. "We've really come together as a team throughout this year and I can't be more excited what's in store for regionals and states."

Trafford advances to the Western Regional on Friday in Homer City where it will play St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
