After the conference slate commenced for several WPIAL football teams last week, more will begin the conference ledger this week. Unfortunately, COVID concerns have resulted in a pair of conference postponements locally, as Seneca Valley at Norwin and Derry Area at Freeport have both been put on hold. Despite that disappointing news, 16 of the Westmoreland County teams are still scheduled to be in action for Week Four of the campaign. Here’s a comprehensive look at all of those matchups.
Thomas Jefferson (3-0, 1-0) at Belle Vernon Area (3-0, 1-0) – 7 p.m.

About the Jaguars: Thomas Jefferson, the defending WPIAL and PIAA Class 4A Champions, have been just as impressive thus far in 2021, defeating Class 5A heavyweights Gateway and South Fayette, and winning the conference opener against Trinity 49-7 last week. Conner Murga led the way offensively, as he rushed for 209 yards and scored three times. QB Joe Lekse accounted for three touchdowns, as he connected with Sean Sullivan on a 19-yard pass, scored on a 2-yard run, and intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards to pay dirt. For the season, Lekse has passed for more than 300 yards, and has rushed for 205 yards, which trails only Murga. Head coach Bill Cherpak has guided the Jags to nine WPIAL titles, the most by any coach in district history.
About the Leopards: Belle Vernon Area’s resume in 2021 is similarly impressive, as the Leopards won easily against another 4A playoff team in Chartiers Valley, followed with a convincing win against 5A contender Penn-Trafford, and then commenced conference action with a 49-3 victory at West Mifflin last week. Quinton Martin excelled against the Titans, as he rushed nine times for 160 yards and three scores. QB Devin Whitlock was efficient through the air, hitting 11-of-14 passes for 177 yards and two scores, while Evan Pohlot contributed seven catches for 92 yards.
