The Yough school board hired former Cougars standout running back Ben Hoffer as its next football coach on Tuesday. Hoffer replaces former coach Chris Chunko who resigned after two seasons.

Hoffer, a 2009 graduate, ran for over 3,000 yards in his career. He's the second all-time leading rusher at Yough behind 2019 graduate Dustin Shoaf. Hoffer also previously held a school record for rushing yards in a single game - going for 401 yards in the final contest of his junior year against Southmoreland. Shoaf broke that record as well when he ran for 428 yards against the Scotties in 2017.

Hoffer has served as an assistant coach for nine years at East Allegheny under head coach Dom Pecora. He also serves as an assistant baseball coach at Yough.

The Cougars posted a 3-14 record under Chunko. They haven't made the WPIAL playoffs since 2013.
