During her time on the pitch while at Kiski Area, Alexis Moyer achieved the rare feat of being a four-year starter. Just recently concluding her soccer career at Clarion, Moyer accomplished something even more rare, as she was named an all-conference performer in all four of her full seasons played. As a result, Moyer is in the spotlight for the latest installment of the Westmoreland Alum Q&A.

Moyer began her soccer career at Kiski Area as a freshman in 2014, as she helped guide the Cavaliers to a mark of 9-8-1, including 8-5-1 in section play. The Cavs failed to qualify for the WPIAL playoffs, however.

The following season, Kiski Area compiled a record of 10-8-0, including 9-5-0 in the section. The Cavaliers reached the WPIAL Class AAA postseason, but fell to Upper St. Clair in the first round.

In 2016, the Cavaliers went 8-7-3, including 6-3-1 in section action. In the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs, Kiski Area lost to Pine-Richland in the first round.

As a senior in 2017, Moyer helped propel KA to a mark of 11-7-0, including 6-4-0 in the section. Back in the WPIAL Class 4A postseason, the Cavs defeated Mount Lebanon, but fell to Norwin in the quarterfinals to conclude the season.

For her high school career, Moyer was twice named a First-Team All-Section performer.

Following her graduation, she matriculated to Clarion University, joining the Golden Eagles as a defender and winger for the 2018 campaign. That season, Moyer started all 18 matches, compiling one goal and four shots. For her play, she was named Third-Team All-PSAC, and was a nominee for the PSAC Freshman of the Year. Collectively, the Golden Eagles struggled, posting a mark of 3-14-1, including 2-14-0 in the conference.

The next season, Moyer started all 18 games once again, notching one assist and 11 shots. She was chosen as a Second-Team All-PSAC selection. Clarion improved to 5-12-1, including 4-11-1 in the PSAC.

As a result of COVID, the fall 2020 season was postponed until the spring of 2021, as Moyer played in two matches. Playing an abbreviated schedule, Clarion went 1-4.

Back to the traditional fall schedule later in 2021, Moyer started all 17 contests, tallying an assist and four shots. Moyer’s play garnered her First-Team All-PSAC recognition, the first Clarion field player to earn that distinction in more than 15 years. The Golden Eagles compiled a mark of 4-12-1, including 4-11-1 in the PSAC.

This past fall, Moyer again started all 18 matches, registering two assists and 10 shots. For her efforts, she was selected as Second-Team All-PSAC, the first player in program history to receive four all-conference awards. Clarion finished 4-11-3, including 3-10-3 in the conference ledger.

Shortly after wrapping up her accomplished college career, Alexis took time to answer questions about her record-setting accolades, her fondest memories at Kiski Area, and her favorite holiday.

Q: How did you evaluate your play individually this past season?

A: I would evaluate my individual play this past season as playing every game as it was my last. I tried my best to put my team in the best position to win, whether that be on defense or offensively.

Q: You recently became the first Clarion player to earn All-PSAC honors four times. What did that accomplishment mean to you?

A: I honestly did not know that I could have been the first Clarion player to earn All-PSAC honors four times in a row. I never looked at stats or points, as I just went out there and played for my team. So, when I found out that I was the first player ever, I was so honored. Many people may not know, but at Clarion University, I have had three coaches in five years, which was not easy to go through. With hard work and our team coming together, I could not have done it or be where I am today without them.

Q: How did you fare in terms of meeting team and individual goals set prior to this season?

A: As a team, we set team and individual goals. My style of play is putting my team goals first, and then my individual goals. Soccer is a team sport, and I always put my team and their goals before myself. But with doing that, I also worked on my individual goals, in which my teammates and coaches pushed me to reach them.

Q: What was your favorite moment during your career at Clarion?

A: My favorite moment during my career at Clarion was beating nationally-ranked Slippery Rock 2-1 on October 9th, 2021.

Q: You opted to use your extra eligibility for a fifth year. What factored into that?

A: I took my fifth year because I was not ready to be done playing soccer, especially since Covid took a year of competition away from me. I’m a competitive person, which is my favorite part of soccer. Since I still had my coaching minor to complete, taking my fifth year made sense.

Q: What led to your decision to attend Clarion?

A: When I came to an ID Camp, the girls were so funny and made me feel like I was a part of their family. The campus also just felt like home, and I did not get that feeling at the other campuses that I visited.

Q: What is your major, and ideal future profession?

A: My major is nutrition and fitness, with a minor in coaching. I plan to attend graduate school for athletic training here at Clarion University. My ideal future profession would be working as an athletic trainer at a high school and coaching the school’s women’s soccer team.

Q: What has been your most enjoyable college class?

A: My most enjoyable college class would be Thy & Technique of Coaching. I took this class for my coaching minor, and we had to plan practices and conduct a fitness assessment. For my fitness assessment, I made the class run the Nike Sparq Test.

Q: What was your fondest memory during your time at Kiski Area?

A: During my senior and junior year of high school, I got to play on the field with my younger sister, Courtney Moyer. We got to make a lot of memories together, and my senior year, the team made it to the second round of playoffs. It was an extra special season being my senior year while sharing it with her.

Q: Which team did you consider your biggest rival when with the Cavaliers?

A: I would say Penn-Trafford.

Q: If you could change one rule about college soccer, what would it be?

A: One rule I would change about college soccer is ending in ties. For me, I think you should go into double overtime and then if no one scores, go to penalty kicks.

Q: Who would you choose to portray yourself in a movie about your life?

A: Sandra Bullock

Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: Buffalo chicken wings.

Q: What is your favorite holiday?

A: My favorite holiday would be Christmas. I love the joy it brings me, and being able to be home with my family. I also love buying gifts for people and watching them open them.
