To say that basketball runs in the Gribble family would be an understatement.

Alayna had a stellar career at Norwin, graduating as the Knights all-time leading scorer. She went on to play at Pitt and Saint Joseph’s at the NCAA Division I level. Her younger sister, Olivia, was a standout at Norwin and at Division III Marietta College. She recently graduated from Marietta as a three-time All-OAC selection.

Now, it’s the youngest Gribble sister’s turn to take her talents to the next level. Greensburg Central Catholic’s stellar junior, Erica Gribble, recently committed to Richmond.

“It’s definitely taken a lot of weight off my shoulders,” she shared. “I’m excited to just focus on my last two high school seasons and my last AAU season and then get to Richmond.”

Gribble became acquainted with the Spiders program all the way back as an eighth grader when she attended an elite camp. She quickly fell in love with the campus, but also the atmosphere around the basketball program.

“I’ve watched a lot of their games over the years” she added. “Their playing style is something I definitely see myself in. I’m really excited to just start a new chapter in my life there.”

With this season and all of next year to still compete for GCC, Gribble has a chance to accomplish even more than she already has. Last year, she guided the Centurions to their first WPIAL Championship since 2007.

“It was awesome,” the future Spider added. “It was really great for our team, our atmosphere, and we worked really hard for it. I’m proud of my team for doing it.

Gribble is now the second sister to capture a WPIAL title, with Alayna winning twice during her Norwin days.

During the recruiting process, Gribble found herself relying on her sisters for their guidance in the recruiting process.

“They are, for sure, my biggest role models,” she discussed. “They’ll tell me what to say, what questions to ask, what’s important. They also help me on the court, as well, helping me with what I can get better at.”

With this process wrapped up, Gribble redirects her attention on helping her team repeat as WPIAL champions this year. The only difference is the title will be from a different classification, with GCC moving up to Class 3A in the offseason.

“Right now, it’s been pretty good,” Gribble unveiled about the adjustment to the bigger classification. “We’ve had some tough non-conference games, so those will help with a potential playoff run.”

As the season progresses, Gribble and the Centurions know there is still plenty of work ahead if they want to capture another championship.

“We are definitely hard workers and just love basketball,” she mentioned. “We are definitely going to fight for our team, for the girls who are injured right now. We are a good group of girls who just want to win.”
