Seton Hill lacrosse teams put together big week; Hartman impresses with two first place finishes

SHU Men's Lacrosse (7-4, 3-0): Seton Hill men's lacrosse earned two victories last week.

Jeremy Sforzo's goal with 7:53 to play was the game-winner on Wednesday as the Griffins downed visiting Frostburg State 12-11. Sforzo finished with three goals while Layne Harich also tallied three goals. Andy Davis added two markers and two assists. Josh Miller made 15 stops in goal.

In a G-MAC game on Saturday, the Griffins rolled over Lake Erie 25-5 scoring 11 goals in the second quarter. Thomas Hanulak had a big game, scoring four times. Peyton Gensler ended with three goals and two assists while Jack Ellis potted in three himself.

The Griffins head to Mercyhurst on Saturday for a big conference match up at 7 p.m.

SHU Women's Lacrosse (8-3, 4-2): The SHU women's lacrosse team racked up two more wins last week and have now won four straight games.

Against Lock Haven on Wednesday, Seton Hill held leads of 8-3 and 12-8 but had to hold off a late charge from the Eagles to win 14-13. Piper Conlan paced the Griffins offense with six goals and an assist. Alaina TeSelle scored three times for SHU. Kamille Ward and Kyleigh Hessian both saw time in goal.

Seton Hill hammered Edinboro on Saturday, winning 23-0 at home. Conlan tallied five more times with Megan Bunker and Skylar Orlowski each putting in three goals. Jaclyn Frank scored twice and added eight assists. Ward, Hessian and Mara Guerrieri all saw time in the cage.

This week, the Griffins will play one game at IUP on Sunday. In the first meeting with the Crimson Hawks, Seton Hill squandered a 14-8 lead and lost 15-14 in overtime.

SHU Baseball (18-6-1, 6-2): The Griffins split their second PSAC West doubleheader of the season over the weekend against IUP plus began secured a non-conference victory against Lock Haven.

On Tuesday, Seton Hill topped the Eagles 7-6 at home. Drew Garth tripled, doubled while driving in three runs. Jack Oberdorf collected two hits, including a home run, and 2 RBIs. The Griffins used eight pitchers with Brian Pirone picking up the win and Nash Bryan earning the save.

On Saturday, Seton Hill dropped the first game of the four-game series with IUP 7-2 at home. Vinnie Rauso had two hits and drove in a run. Kevin Vaupel had a rare poor start, allowing seven runs in just one inning. SHU responded with an 8-0 triumph in game two. Rauso provided two more hits and three additional RBIs. Omar Ward had two doubles and Oberdorf knocked in a pair. Neal McDermott registered two hits and scored twice. Caiden Wood threw 3 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win. Starter Jared Dowey surrendered just one hit in 3 2/3 innings.

At IUP on Sunday, the Crimson Hawks took game one 8-5. IUP plated five runs in the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Rauso, Oberdorf and McDermott all had two hits for SHU with Rauso and Oberdorf each driving in two runs. Again the Griffins were able to bounce back with a 9-5 win in game two. Seton Hill clubbed seven doubles in the game, two off the bat of Owen Sabol. Garth provided three hits, including a triple, and two runs scored. Eli Snider went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Andino Vecchiolla gave up two runs in 5 2/3 innings to collect the win. He struck out seven. Bryan entered the game to get the final out and earned his eighth save of the season.

Seton Hill will play Millersville at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona on Tuesday. The Griffins will then play a four-game series with Clarion on Friday and Saturday.

SHU Softball (23-6, 0-2): After a terrific start to the season, the Seton Hill softball team is facing its toughest skid of the season, losing three of four games over the weekend.

On Tuesday, the Griffins swept Pitt-Johnstown 5-4 and 7-2. In game one, SHU rallied to score four runs in the seventh inning to win the game on a walk-off single by Morgan Ryan. Jenna Osikowicz had three hits while Nichole McClendon and Grace Paredes each put up two. Lauren Dellett registered the win in the circle. In the victory in game two, Brooke Cleland homered, doubled and drove in three runs. Morgan Toal collected three hits. Chloe Elliott went all seven innings for the victory.

The Griffins traveled to California (Pa.) to open PSAC West play on Saturday and were swept by the Vulcans by scores of 6-1 and 5-1. Jenna Osikowicz and Nina Grandey each collected two hits in game one with Osikowicz providing two more hits in game two. SHU left 10 runners on base in the second contest.

Seton Hill traveled to Shepherd for a non-conference twinbill on Sunday and fell 8-6 in the first game before stopping the skid with a 7-1 win in game two. Paredes finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the first contest. In game two, Osikowicz had two more hits, including a double and two RBIs. Toal homered and drove in a pair of runs. Ryan bounced back from a loss to Cal U with a victory in the circle.

Seton Hill will host Edinboro on Friday and Gannon on Saturday in a pair of PSAC West doubleheaders.

SHU Track and Field: The Seton Hill track and field teams competed in two different meets on Saturday afternoon. A small portion of the squad traveled to High Point, NC and the High Point VertKlasse Meet while the rest of the team competed at Slippery Rock University in the Dave Labor Invitational.

At High Point, Samuel Hartman again impressed with two first place finishes. He was first in the 110 hurdles in a time of 51.63 seconds and first in the 400 hurdles in a time of 14.02 seconds. Those two times are the fastest times in the PSAC this season.

At Slippery Rock, the Griffins women had ten top eight finishes.

Leading the way were Darby Roth and Alyson Taylor. Roth was second in the 800 (2:19.85) while Taylor was second in the 400 hurdles (1:05.93). The team had two third place finishes. Keelin Becker was third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.59 meters while Samantha Gravatt was third in the javelin with a toss of 40.06 meters.

The Griffins will head to the Duke Open and the John Homon Open at Mount Union next weekend.
