PT junior legion claims pair of victories in states

Penn-Trafford junior legion baseball, which won the Pennsylvania title in 2021, is off to a strong start again in the state tournament. Competing in Berwick, the Warriors notched a 7-0 victory against Black Mountain on Saturday, and followed with an 11-1 mercy-rule triumph against Saegertown on Sunday. In the first win, PT received a stellar pitching effort from Zach Feldman, who worked 5.2 scoreless innings, permitting just one hit. Offensively, Jordan White collected four hits and three RBIs, Ethan Septak pounded a pair of doubles, and Logan Matrisch drew three walks for PT, which scored five runs in the seventh inning. The following day, Septak tossed a one-hitter to earn the win on the hill. Septak also produced three hits, while Matrisch added a pair of hits. The Warriors lost to Upper Perkiomen in the semifinals today.

Jethawks bounced from American Legion tourney

The Latrobe Jethawks, the host team for the American Legion State Tournament, finished 1-2 in the double-elimination event last week at Rosa-Oglietti Park. The Jethawks claimed a dominant 7-1 victory against Wesleyville to open the tournament on Monday, but fell to Paxton 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday and were eliminated by Falls 5-2 on Wednesday. In the opener, Haden Sierocky spun six strong innings, allowing just four hits while striking out 13, while Vinny Amatucci delivered a pair of hits. The following day, however, Latrobe was undone by five errors, despite a two-hit effort by Sierocky. In their elimination defeat, Amatucci had a pair of hits and accounted for both RBIs for the Jethawks.
