PIAA first round baseball and softball game recaps from Monday, June 3rd 2024:

Penn-Trafford 3 Lower Dauphin 2 (5A Baseball)   WATCH BROADCAST

Ian Temple's RBI single in the fifth inning ended up being the game-winning hit as Penn-Trafford edged Lower Dauphin 3-2 in a PIAA Class 5A first round playoff match up at Plum. With two outs and two on, Temple punched a 1-1 pitch through the left side of the infield scoring Jason Sabol who had walked earlier in the inning. With P-T ahead 3-2 in the seventh, Lower Dauphin's Hunter Strohm was thrown out at third base trying to stretch a double into a triple. The umpire initially called him safe but quickly changed the call after he ruled that Strohm slid and came off the base. Temple finished with two hits while Carmen Metcalfe and Chuck Fontana drove in the other runs for the Warriors (21-3). Dom Delio pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief of Zach Feldman to pick up the win. Hunter Brown retired four batters to pick up the save. Penn-Trafford plays Hollidaysburg in the quarterfinals on Thursday at Point Stadium in Johnstown with first pitch at 4 p.m.

Hollidaysburg 4 Franklin Regional 2 (5A Baseball)

Despite outhitting Hollidaysburg, Franklin Regional's season ended at the hands of the Tigers losing 4-2 in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A post-season. The Panthers scored first as Blake Bertucci grounded into a fielders choice to score Owen Sinclair in the third inning. After Hollidaysburg answered with two runs in the fourth, Franklin Regional tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth as Luke Williams ground ball brought home Sinclair. The Tigers would take the lead for good, however, in the bottom of the fifth as Cayden Gibbons came through with a two-run double after two outs to make it 4-2. The Panthers managed just one baserunner over the final two innings. Sinclair and Dom Deriggi each finished with two hits and Sinclair doubled once for Franklin Regional (15-9). Max Bernadowski was saddled with the loss allowing four runs, only two earned, in five innings. Keagan Hockey posted two hits and an RBI for Hollidaysburg (15-6). Fairview 7 Burrell 3 (3A Baseball)

Burrell saw its season come to an end in a 7-3 loss at Fairview in a PIAA Class 3A first round contest at Mercyhurst. Forest Hills 3 Ligonier Valley 2 (3A Softball)

Payton Pcola's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning drove in Danica Shrift with the go-ahead run as Forest Hills edged Ligonier Valley 3-2 in the opening round of the PIAA 3A softball playoffs. The Rangers led 2-0 through three innings before the Rams tied it 2-2 on a pair of RBI singles from Neve Dowden in the fourth and sixth innings.
