Westmoreland County basketball game recaps from Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025:
Norwin 58 Mount Lebanon 53
Led by Alex Graney, Norwin notched a signature comeback win, 58-53, at Mount Lebanon in a Section 2-6A contest. Graney amassed 19 points for the Knights (5-4, 2-1) who outscored the Blue Devils 22-10 in the fourth quarter. Carter Gould scored 14 points to pace the Blue Devils (5-2, 2-2).
Imani Christian 69 Hempfield Area 62 (2OT)
Hempfield Area fell in double overtime, 69-62, to Imani Christian Academy in a Section 2-6A slugfest. Danny Husenits tallied a game-high 21 points for the homestanding Spartans (5-4, 1-3), while Tommie Rennie and Trevor Donsen netted 15 and 12 points, respectively. I’Zayah Bradshaw propelled the Saints (2-3, 2-1) with 19 points.
Penn-Trafford 67 Greater Latrobe 65 WATCH BROADCAST
Nick Ponko’s layup in the closing seconds lifted Penn-Trafford to a 67-65 victory at Greater Latrobe in a Section 1-5A matchup. Ponko’s heroics helped cap the Warriors 17-point rally in the second half. Peyton Mastro paced PT (4-5, 3-1) with 17 points in his season debut, while Ethan McDonald scored 13 points. Dom Scarton led the Wildcats (3-5, 1-3) with 17 points off the bench, while Ian DeCerb tallied 13 points, and Andy Tatsch and Sawyer Butina each scored a dozen points.
Franklin Regional 65 Laurel Highlands 52
Logan Walter put up 19 points to help power Franklin Regional to a 65-52 victory at Laurel Highlands in Section 1-5A play. Alec Masten tossed in 15 points for the Panthers (7-1, 4-0) who built a 30-22 lead at halftime. Tyrone Burton produced a game-best 20 points for the Mustangs (5-4, 1-3).
Derry Area 43 West Mifflin 42
With Brayden Robinson leading the way, Derry Area edged West Mifflin Area 43-42 in a Section 3-4A clash. Robinson tallied 16 points for the host Trojans (6-4, 2-2), while Logan Irvin netted 11 points. Julian Dewberry posted a game-best 20 points for the Titans (1-9, 1-2).
Elizabeth Forward 74 Belle Vernon 69
Belle Vernon's Dane Daugherty scored 26 points but the Leopards didn't have an answer for Elizabeth Forward's Daniel Spence who tallied 30 as the Warriors captured a 74-69 triumph in Section 3-4A. In addition to Daugherty, Cam Jenko scored 16 points and Luca Ghilani added 12 for Belle Vernon (7-4, 3-1). Tyler Basic also had a big game registering 23 points for Elizabeth Forward (5-3, 3-0).
East Allegheny 62 Greensburg Salem 54
Despite a big performance from Solomon Cain, Greensburg Salem suffered a 62-54 setback at East Allegheny in Section 3-4A play. Cain poured in 24 points for the Golden Lions (4-5, 1-3), while Ty Harkcom scored 11 points for GS. Jayden Patterson led the Wildcats (4-2, 2-1) with 24 points.
Southmoreland 60 Ligonier Valley 47 WATCH BROADCAST
Noah Felentzer's 31 points carried Southmoreland to a 60-47 win against visiting Ligonier Valley in a Section 4-3A tussle. The Scotties held a 31-27 lead at halftime but went on a 12-7 spurt in the third quarter to take control of the game. To go along with Felentzer, Brock Pritts also finished in double-figures with 10 points for Southmoreland (4-4, 2-0). Michael Vargulish-Graver notched 16 points and Simeone Pope added 11 for the Rams (4-4, 1-1).
Mount Pleasant 59 Brownsville 56 (OT)
Mount Pleasant trailed by as many as 15 points in the second quarter, 23-8, but rallied to earn a 59-56 overtime win against Brownsville in a Section 4-3A game. The key basket in overtime came when Kade Hutchinson made a steal and Gage Valone connected on a layup with 31 seconds remaining. Valone finished with 16 points while Jordan Grieff and Jonah Townsend put in 11 and 10 points respectively (3-5, 1-1).
Jeannette 69 Frazier 29
Jeannette outscored Frazier in every quarter as the Jayhawks scored a 69-29 Section 1-2A victory at Frazier. Markus McGowan collected 23 points to pace Jeannette (8-1, 4-0). Jayce Powell (14) and Kymon'e Brown (11) also reached double figures. Kolby Stewart had 20 points for the Commodores (4-6, 1-3).
Bentworth 38 Greensburg Central Catholic 37
Despite rallying in the fourth quarter, Greensburg Central Catholic was turned back by Bentworth 38-37 in a Section 1-2A battle. James Botti put in 10 points for the Centurions (1-7, 1-3). The Bearcats improve to (5-2, 3-1).
