WPIAL boys soccer semifinal results for Tuesday, October 31st:

Norwin 2 Fox Chapel 1 (4A)

Norwin's Cinderella run continued in the WPIAL Class 4A semifinals on Tuesday as the eighth-seeded Knights edged No. 5 Fox Chapel 2-1 at Hampton to advance to the district championship for the first time since 2018. With the match knotted at 1-1, Norwin's Owen Christopher scored what became the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute. Daniel Maddock gave the Knights a 1-0 advantage, scoring in the 21st minute. Five minutes later, Michael Shin finished off a corner kick to tie the contest for the Foxes before Christopher's late goal untied it. Anthony Scalise made six saves for the Knights (14-5-1), who will play No. 2 North Allegheny in the WPIAL 4A championship on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh. The Tigers took out Butler, 3-2, in the semifinals.


WPIAL boys soccer semifinal results for Monday, October 30th:

Hampton 2 Franklin Regional 0 (3A)

No. 2 Hampton clinched a spot in the WPIAL finals for the second time in three years, ending Franklin Regional's hopes for a WPIAL title with a 2-0 victory over the 11th seeded Panthers in the Class 3A semifinals at North Allegheny High School. Aiden Cole tallied the first goal off of a corner kick in the eighth minute to give the Talbots the early advantage. It remained 1-0 through halftime until Luke Fiscus converted on a breakaway 15 minutes into the second half to make the score 2-0. Goalkeeper Gavin Guinn made the lead stand making six saves for Hampton. The Talbots (17-2-1) will face South Fayette (12-4-3) in the WPIAL 3A championship on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Franklin Regional (12-9-0), which upset Mars and Moon earlier in the post-season, will meet Montour in a a third-place consolation game on Wednesday.

Bentworth 2 Burrell 1, OT (1A)

Despite getting the tying goal in the final stages of the second half, No. 3 Burrell fell in overtime to No. 7 Bentworth 2-1 in a WPIAL 2A semifinal match at Peters Township. With under 10 minutes remaining in extra time, Ryan Moessner tallied for the Bearcats to send them to their first ever WPIAL championship game. To force overtime, however, Burrell's Luke Postupack found the back of the goal with only two minutes left in regulation to tie the game at 1-1. The Buccaneers (15-4-0) will play Seton-La Salle in the third-place consolation on Wednesday. Bentworth (17-2-0) advances to face top-seed Charleroi (19-0-0) in the WPIAL 1A Championship on Friday at 8 p.m.


WPIAL boys soccer quarterfinal results for Saturday, October 28th:

Norwin 3 Seneca Valley 2, 4-2 PK's (4A)

No. 8 Norwin, the lowest seeded team in the WPIAL Class 4A bracket, pulled off a stunning upset of No. 1 Seneca Valley winning in penalty kicks in a quarterfinal match at Seneca Valley High School. The Knights led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal from Luke Halberg in the 34th minute. Zach Garma answered just two minutes into the second half to knot the contest at 1-1. It stayed that way until the 67th minute as Alex Brown tallied to put Norwin in front 2-1. The Raiders responded once again, however, as Cole Kamarec tied it about five minutes later and sent the match to overtime. After two scoreless extra periods, the Knights edged Seneca Valley in penalty kicks, 4-2, with Brown, Owen Christopher, George Bunovich and Chase Molinaro converting. Norwin (12-5-1) will face No. 5 Fox Chapel (11-4-2) in the semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Hampton High School. The Foxes edged Upper St. Clair 2-1 Saturday.


WPIAL boys soccer quarterfinal results for Wednesday, October 25th:

Franklin Regional 2 Moon Area 1, OT (3A)

Tyler Pipon's goal in double-overtime sent No. 11 Franklin Regional to the WPIAL 3A semifinals as the Panthers pulled a stunning quarterfinal upset of No. 3 Moon, 2-1, at Moon Area High School. Pipon, a junior midfielder, also scored the first goal of the night in the 38th minute to give FR a 1-0 advantage. It appeared as if that would be the final score but the Tigers (15-4-1) tied the match with just 56 seconds remaining as Davi Jansson knocked home a rebound to force overtime. After a scoreless first OT, it took about four minutes into the second overtime for Pipon to score as he took a cross from Danny Christafano and buried the shot to give Franklin Regional the victory. The Panthers (12-7-0) will meet No. 2 Hampton in the semifinals on Monday. The Talbots (16-2-1) also were victorious in double OT against Thomas Jefferson 2-1.

Burrell 2 Trinity Christian 1, OT (1A)

Taber Driscoll recorded the golden goal in double-overtime to give No. 3 Burrell a 2-1 victory over No. 11 Trinity Christian in a WPIAL 1A quarterfinal contest at Buccaneer Stadium. Vincent Guerrini tallied the first goal for the Bucs (14-3-0) while Luke Kost got the lone goal for the Falcons (10-6-0). Ryan Croushore made four saves for Burrell which plays No. 7 Bentworth in Monday's semifinals. The Bearcats (16-2-0) shut out Sewickely Academy 5-0 in the quarterfinals.


WPIAL boys soccer first round playoff results for Monday, October 23rd:

Belle Vernon 3 East Allegheny 2 (3A) (4-3 PK)

Jackson Coneybeer's penalty kick lifted No. 5 Belle Vernon to a WPIAL Class 2A first round victory against visiting No. 12 East Allegheny at Weir Stadium. With the match knotted up at 2-2 through regulation and two overtime periods, the contest would be decided by penalty kicks. Both the Leopards and Wildcats were successful on three of their kicks before Coneybeer ended it by finding the back of the net and giving BVA a 4-3 win in PK's. Trevor Kovatch and Brandon Yeschenko both scored in regulation for Belle Vernon (15-2-0) which will play No. 4 Avonworth (15-2-1) in the quarterfinals on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

Keystone Oaks 2 Mount Pleasant 1 (2A)

Austin Ulery scored Mount Pleasant's only goal as the ninth-seeded Vikings were downed by No. 8 Keystone Oaks 2-1 in a WPIAL 2A first round match at Dormont Stadium. Makram Ishaq and Ayden Worstell collected goals for the Golden Eagles (12-5-0) while Luke Rivardo assisted on Ulery's tally for Mount Pleasant (13-5-0). Keystone Oaks advances to play No. 1 South Park in the quarterfinals.

Quaker Valley 9 Jeannette 1 (2A)

No. 15 Jeannette was overwhelmed by No. 2 Quaker Valley, losing 9-1 in a WPIAL Class 2A battle at Quaker Valley High School. Scoring sensation Jordan Taylor collected the lone goal for the Jayhawks (10-8-1) while Jack Karkowski finished with a hat trick for the Quakers (15-3-0). Quaker Valley faces Elizabeth Forward in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

South Park 2 Yough 0 (2A)

No. 1 South Park shut out No. 16 Yough to claim a WPIAL Class 2A first round victory. The Cougars finish the season with an 11-8-0 overall record while the Eagles (18-0-0) meet No. 8 Keystone Oaks Thursday in the quarterfinals.


WPIAL boys soccer first round playoff results for Saturday, October 21st:

South Fayette 4 Greater Latrobe 0 (3A)

Senior Michael Plasko tallied all four goals for South Fayette as the eighth-seeded Lions shut out No. 9 Latrobe 4-0 in a WPIAL Class 3A first round contest at South Fayette. Three of Plasko's four goals came in the first half with his final score coming late in the match. Reece DiCasolo made eight saves for Greater Latrobe while Dylan Janoski turned away six shots for the Lions (11-2-3). The Wildcats, who played their first postseason game since 2020, finished the season with a 13-4-0 overall record.

Franklin Regional 4 Mars 0 (3A)

Joey Bayne's two goals powered No. 11 Franklin Regional to a WPIAL Class 3A first round victory at No. 6 Mars 4-0. In addition to Bayne, Lorenzo Aguilera and Jovan Sankoorikal also found the back of the net for the Panthers (11-7-0) who will meet third-seeded Moon in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at a site and time TBD. The Tigers (15-3-1) shut out Ringgold 4-0 on Saturday.

Burrell 5 Greensburg Central Catholic 1 (1A)

It took 59 minutes but once Burrell scored it didn't stop as the third-seeded Buccaneers topped No. 14 Greensburg Central Catholic 5-1 in a WPIAL Class 1A first round meeting at Buccaneers Stadium. Junior Billy Kowalkowski finally broke the scoreless tie with 21:30 remaining in the match and the floodgates proceeded to burst open for Burrell (13-3-0). Cam Wagner and Hadyn Herbulock followed with two goals each to quickly put the Bucs ahead 5-0. Grant Brewer scored with 1:35 remaining for the Centurions (7-11-0). Burrell will face off with No. 11 Trinity Christian on Wednesday in the quarterfinals at a site and time TBD. Trinity Christian (10-5-0) upset No. 6 Serra Catholic 1-0 on Saturday.
