Westmoreland County boys basketball game recaps from Friday, February 7th 2025:
Hempfield Area 49 Norwin 32
Despite not qualifying for the WPIAL playoffs, Hempfield Area finished its season with a bang earning a 49-32 victory at Norwin in Section 2-6A. The Knights managed just seven points in the first half as the Spartans built up a 23-7 lead at the break. Hempfield Area closed out the contest in the second half. Max Williams scored 20 points in his final game while Danny Husenits added 10 points for the Spartans (9-12, 4-10). Nate Kuch tallied nine points for the Knights (10-11, 6-8) who will compete in the WPIAL postseason.
Greater Latrobe 86 Albert Gallatin 78
Greater Latrobe clinched second place in Section 1-5A after winning at Albert Gallatin 86-78. The Wildcats scored a whopping 39 points in the first quarter and allowed the Colonials to score 26 points in the fourth. Max Butler topped all scorers with 22 points for Greater Latrobe (18-4, 10-4). Ian Decerb came in with 16 points and Kyle McNeil scored 10. Shymere Wilson produced 21 points for Albert Gallatin (7-14, 2-12). The Wildcats and Gateway both finished with the same section mark but Greater Latrobe swept the season series between the teams to earn the tiebreaker.
Penn-Trafford 74 Laurel Highlands 67
Penn-Trafford was able to withstand an incredible 39-point performance by Antwan Black, defeating Laurel Highlands 74-67 in a Section 1-5A contest. Brayden Stone amassed 22 points for the Warriors (13-9, 8-6) while Zach Feldman helped with 12 points and Evan Gross scored 11. P-T finishes in fourth place in the section and will participate in the WPIAL playoffs. The Mustangs (5-16, 2-12) finish in last place.
Kiski Area 68 Penn Hills 61 WATCH BROADCAST
Kiski Area captured its first section title since 2012-2013 after knocking off Penn Hills on the road 68-61 in Section 2-5A. Amaree Gonzales and Collin Keller each netted 22 points for the Cavaliers (14-6, 11-1) with Jacob Musselman adding 13. Calix Clark ended with 16 points for the Indians (11-9, 10-2).
Highlands 76 Valley 49
Taireke Davis struck for 21 points but it wasn't enough as Valley fell to Highlands 76-49 in a Section 1-4A tilt. Mickael Allen added 11 points for the Vikings (5-16, 0-12) who were behind 46-18 at halftime. Troy Bielak registered 18 points for the Rams (6-13, 5-7).
Elizabeth Forward 65 Derry Area 50 WATCH BROADCAST
Derry Area suffered its fourth loss in five games, falling to Elizabeth Forward at home 65-50 in Section 3-4A. The Trojans fought back into the game and trailed by just four points, 46-42, early in the fourth quarter. But the Warriors closed out the game on a 19-8 run to secure the victory. Stanley Rajkovich put up 14 points to lead Derry Area (11-9, 8-4) while Daniel Spence answered with 23 points for Elizabeth Forward (17-4, 10-2). As a result of this game, the Warriors clinch second place in the section while the Trojans finish third.
West Mifflin 58 Greensburg Salem 44
Despite Tyler Martin's 23 point-performance, Greensburg Salem lost its final Section 3-4A game of the season at West Mifflin 58-44. The Golden Lions trailed 40-37 through three quarters of play but were outscored 18-7 in the final quarter. In addition to Martin, Braedon Leatherman contributed 11 points for Greensburg Salem (5-16, 3-9). Daven Reynolds ended with 19 points for the Titans (8-13, 7-5) who finish in fourth place.
East Allegheny 54 Yough 53
East Allegheny outscored Yough by one point in the fourth quarter and one point overall, winning 54-53 in a Section 3-4A finale for both teams. Jackson Pore (17), Charlie Quinn (15) and Ryan Westerman (10) all finished in double figures for the Cougars (1-21, 0-12). Chirs Portis collected 18 points to pace the Wildcats (6-15, 3-9).
Waynesburg 76 Mount Pleasant 60
Mount Pleasant trailed by just two points at halftime but was outscored by Waynesburg 45-31 in the second half, losing 76-60 in Section 4-3A play. Cole Massari produced a team-high 21 points for the Vikings (0-22, 0-10) with teammate Jordan Grieff putting in 11. Alex Eck finished with 24 points to top all scorers for the Raiders (9-11, 7-3).
Southmoreland 87 Brownsville 49
Noah Felentzer scored 20 points while Elliot Premus helped with 18 to help lead Southmoreland past Brownsville 87-49 in a Section 4-3A contest. Stanley Chapman added 10 points for the section champion Scotties (17-4, 10-0) who led 56-20 at halftime. Preston Rosado notched 14 points for the Falcons (4-17, 2-8).
Ligonier Valley 65 Charleroi 48
A trio of players finished in double figures as Ligonier Valley bested Charleroi 65-48 in a Section 4-3A match up. Michael Wisniewski accumulated 19 points for the Rams (13-8, 7-3) with Parker Hollick finishing with 18 points and Brian Wisniewski scoring 16. Jackson Keranko's 13 points topped the Cougars (10-11, 4-6). Ligonier Valley finishes tied for second place with Waynesburg in the section.
Jeannette 60 Clairton 45
Markus McGowan finished with 17 points as Jeannette topped Clairton 60-45 in Section 1-2A action. In addition to McGowan, Kymon'e Brown contributed 14 points for the Jayhawks (18-2, 11-2) who claim second place in the section. Mikey Ruffin collected 11 points for the Bears (8-10, 8-6) who take third.
Greensburg Central Catholic 53 Springdale 40
Section 1-2A champion Greensburg Central Catholic finished the regular season with a perfect section record, taking out Springdale 53-40. Liam Gallagher poured in 26 points for the Centurions (20-2, 14-0) who led 21-6 after the first quarter. Robby Simmen reached 15 points for the Dynamos (13-8, 7-7).
