Greensburg Salem 10 Mount Pleasant 5 LISTEN BROADCAST
The Golden Lions remained perfect in section play, as they took an early lead and never relinquished it in a 10-5 victory on the road against Mount Pleasant Area. With the win, Greensburg Salem improved to 5-0 in Class 3A Section 4, while the Vikings fell to 1-2. Greensburg Salem plated a pair of runs in the top of the second, and although Mount Pleasant responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, the Golden Lions took command by scoring four times in the fourth inning. Noah Demary led the way offensively, as he went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a walk, while Grant Smith added a pair of hits and Noah Outly drew three walks. Braedon Leatherman earned the win on the mound for GS, as he went five innings, allowing four runs but limiting the Vikings to four hits. Connor Drzal suffered the loss for Mount Pleasant, as he permitted six runs on six hits in four innings. Offensively, Drzal collected a pair of hits and an RBI, while Ryan McKula had two hits and a walk for the Vikes.
Hempfield Area 11 Baldwin 1
The Spartans won their fourth consecutive game in section play, as they overwhelmed host Baldwin 11-1. With the win, Hempfield Area improved to 4-1 in Class 6A Section 1, already securing a series win with one game remaining against the Highlanders. Meanwhile, Baldwin dropped to 1-4. The Spartans were propelled by Logan Hilland, who blasted a home run, and Adam Hess, who produced three RBIs. Parker Donsen recorded the win on the hill for Hempfield.
Norwin 7 Canon-McMillan 5
The Knights held serve at home, claiming a 7-5 victory against Canon-McMillan. Norwin improved to 3-2 in Class 6A Section 2, while also handing the Big Macs their first section loss. Chris Slatt paced the attack for the Knights, as he homered and notched a pair of RBIs. Cam Russell led Canon Mac with three hits.
Penn-Trafford 4 Plum 3
Brady Lane’s two-run hit proved the difference, as the homestanding Warriors edged Plum 4-3. Lane’s decisive hit gave PT the lead in the fifth inning, while Dylan Grabowski homered for the Warriors. The Mustangs received extra-base hits from Jack Anderson and Dom Beyer. The victory improves the Warriors to 3-2 in Class 5A Section 1, while the Mustangs fall to 1-2.
Ringgold 3 Greater Latrobe 2
Logan Bradish and Jacob Cramer provided RBIs for the Wildcats, but Ringgold narrowly prevailed 3-2 at home. Greater Latrobe dropped to 2-1 in Class 4A Section 2, while the Rams increased their mark to 2-1. Hunter Mamie notched an RBI for the Rams.
Uniontown 11 Belle Vernon 1
Jake Gedekoh provided the lone bright spot for the Leopards, as his homer accounted for the only run in an 11-1 setback at Uniontown Area. Consequently, Belle Vernon Area sits at 1-2 in Class 4A Section 2, while the Red Raiders boosted their mark to 3-0. Clay Dean homered and accumulated four RBIs for Uniontown.
Hampton 12 Kiski Area 0
The Cavaliers were silenced offensively, recording just two hits in a 12-0 loss at home against Hampton. With the setback, Kiski Area’s record dropped to 1-2 in Class 4A Section 4, while the Talbots moved to 2-1. Nate Witt and Jacob Bucci collected the hits for KA, while Braxton Eastly and Justin Dubee each homered for Hampton.
Burrell 13 Freeport Area 7
The Buccaneers proved opportunistic, scoring six times in the fourth inning to claim a 13-7 victory on the road against Freeport Area. As a result, Burrell elevated its record to 4-1 in Class 3A Section 3, while the Yellowjackets dropped to 4-1. Brayden Mell sparked the Burrell offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, while Ryan Scheftic earned the victory, working four innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Steve Hasson pitched the final three frames for Burrell, permitting just one earned run.
Yough 2 Waynesburg Central 1
James Shoman went the distance on the hill and recorded eight strikeouts, leading the Cougars to a 2-1 victory on the road against Waynesburg Central. Yough stayed perfect in Class 3A Section 4, improving to 3-0, while the Raiders tumbled to 2-3. Aidan Werner provided the winning RBI single for Yough in the fourth inning, while Dom Maroney also produced a run batted
Brownsville Area 13 Southmoreland 9
Despite three RBIs from Ty Keffer, the Scotties fell at home to Brownsville Area 13-9. As a result, Southmoreland fell to 0-5 in Class 3A Section 4, while the Falcons improved to 1-4. Derrick Tarpley blasted a home run for Brownsville.
Ligonier Valley 5 Apollo-Ridge 2
Riding another strong performance by Haden Sierocky on the mound, the Rams notched a 5-2 win at home against Apollo-Ridge. Ligonier Valley boosted its mark to 4-1 in Class 2A Section 3, while the Vikings tumbled to 0-5. Sierocky fanned 10, earning the victory. Offensively, Duncan Foust had three hits for LV.
Jeannette 5 Brentwood 2
The Jayhawks captured their first win of the season, scoring a 5-2 home triumph against Brentwood. Courtesy of the W, Jeannette improved to 1-2 in Class 2A Section 3, while the Spartans fell to 0-5. Gavin Holemeyer and Brayden Luttner each collected two doubles and an RBI, while Luttner earned the win on the mound, as well.
