It had been over two decades since the Greater Latrobe girls soccer team defeated Norwin.
That changed Tuesday night at Rossi Stadium.
Spurred by goals from a pair of freshmen, Robin Reilly and Maddy Petruzzi, the Wildcats topped the Knights for the first time in over 25 years by a 2-1 tally.
Greater Latrobe struck first just under six minutes into the contest as Ella Bullava lofted the ball deep down the pitch to a waiting Reilly. She couldn't corral it initially but recovered and blasted a shot past Norwin goalkeeper Riley Morningstar to make it 1-0.
The score remained that way for the majority of the first half until the Wildcats (3-0, 1-0) netted their second goal with 3:17 on the clock as Petruzzi got to a loose ball before Morningstar did, raced by the goalkeeper and put it into the empty net to make it 2-0.
The lone goal in the second half came on another scramble type play as Norwin's Evelyn Moore collided with Greater Latrobe goalkeeper Ava DeCerb. Moore got up and was able to touch the loose ball out of the air and bounce it into the goal to cut the lead to 2-1 just over 10 minutes into the second half.
The Knights (1-1, 0-1) played a bit shorthanded in the game as they were without Robert Morris commit senior forward Paloma Swankler and junior midfielder Alyssa Aquilio who both missed due to injuries.
After already having beaten Upper St. Clair, West Mifflin and Kiski Area by a combined total of 13-1, and now Norwin, the Wildcats are off to their best start to a season in recent memory. They travel to Allderdice on Friday while the Knights host Fox Chapel which won the section title last season.
