Mt. Lebanon 57 Norwin 22
Mount Lebanon boasted a strong defense plus outscored Norwin 21-9 in the first quarter in a 57-22 victory over the Knights in Section 2-6A. Brody Barber poured in 26 points for the first place Blue Devils (17-3, 8-1) while Dylan McCullough scored nine to lead Norwin (7-12, 1-8).
Baldwin 63 Hempfield Area 50 WATCH BROADCAST
Hempfield Area lead at the break but Baldwin came to life in the second half as the Spartans dropped a 63-50 decision to the Highlanders in Section 2-6A play. With Hempfield Area ahead 25-22 at halftime, Baldwin went on a 25-12 run in the third quarter to take control of the contest. Drew Gordon's 24 points topped the Spartans (4-17, 0-9) with teammate Max Williams adding 11. Max Schenk put in 17 for the Highlanders (16-4, 7-2).
Franklin Regional 49 Gateway 41
Franklin Regional won at Gateway 49-41 in Section 3-5A to clinch its first section title in 16 years. The Panthers were down 27-26 at halftime but outscored the Gators 23-14 in the second half to secure the victory. Cam Rowell finished with 14 points for Franklin Regional (18-2, 8-1) while Alec Dunsmore tallied 12 for Gateway (14-6, 6-3).
Penn-Trafford 71 Greater Latrobe 61 WATCH BROADCAST
Penn-Trafford clinched a playoff spot, outscoring Greater Latrobe 71-61 in a Section 3-5A battle. Tyler Freas (14), Zach Feldman (12) and Ian Temple (10) all reached double figures for the Warriors (11-10, 5-4). John Wetzel's 21 points were a game high for the Wildcats (8-12, 3-6). Max Butler chipped in with 17 points and Ja'Tawn Williams scored 11.
Kiski Area 62 McKeesport 41
Kiski Area jumped on McKeesport early, taking a 29-11 at halftime en route to a 62-41 Section 3-5A triumph. Isaiah Gonzalez and Noah Thimons both collected 14 points for the Cavaliers (13-7, 4-5) while Lamone Perkins racked up 22 points for the Tigers (5-12, 1-8). Kiski Area can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Penn-Trafford Friday or a Greater Latrobe loss to Gateway.
Greensburg Salem 48 Freeport 46
A.J. Tarpley's 20 points carried Greensburg Salem to a 48-46 victory over Freeport in a Section 1-4A match up. The Golden Lions are now in a tie for fourth place with Indiana and Freeport with one game remaining against Hampton on Friday.
Belle Vernon 72 Albert Gallatin 61
Zion Moore dropped in 27 points as Belle Vernon secured a 72-61 win in Section 3-4A. In addition to Moore, Alonzo Wade put in 14 points and Curtis Wade added 12 for the Leopards (12-6, 7-2). J.J. Jackson ended with 17 points to lead the Colonials (9-10, 3-6). Belle Vernon can finish tied for the section championship with a win over Elizabeth Forward Friday and a Uniontown loss to Laurel Highlands.
Southmoreland 55 Laurel Highlands 52
Southmoreland outscored Laurel Highlands 17-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away and defeat the Mustangs 55-52 in a Section 3-4A contest. Noah Felentzer scored 19 points for the Scotties (15-6, 4-5) while teammates Ty Keffer and Elliot Premus finished with 15 and 11 points respectively. Southmoreland, which has already clinched a WPIAL playoff spot, finishes the season at Albert Gallatin Friday.
Burrell 65 Apollo-Ridge 31
Burrell used a big second quarter to pull away from Apollo-Ridge in a 65-31 victory in Section 3-3A action. The Bucs were ahead 13-9 through the first eight minutes but outscored the Vikings 25-9 in the second frame. Tucker Bitar collected 16 points for Burrell (12-5, 7-4) while Macky Bennis tossed in 14. Karter Schrock had 10 for Apollo-Ridge (2-20, 0-12).
Shady Side Academy 73 Derry Area 56
Derry Area didn't have an answer for Shady Side Academy's Eli Teslovich as the Bulldogs claimed a 73-56 win in a Section 3-3A match up. Teslovich racked up a game-high 30 points for Shady Side Academy (13-6, 9-2) which led 31-23 at halftime. Nate Papuga dropped in 20 points for the Trojans (12-6, 6-5). Brady Angus and Stan Rajkovich finished with 13 and 12 points each for DA.
Mount Pleasant 63 Waynesburg 54
Mount Pleasant exploded for 32 points in the fourth quarter and earned a 63-54 Section 4-3A win at Waynesburg. Connor Pavlochak's 19 points topped the Vikings (8-10, 7-3) with Chase McCloy adding 18. Cole Headlee came in with 15 points for the Raiders (7-14, 2-9).
Yough 40 McGuffey 38
Yough edged McGuffey 40-38 to earn a home Section 4-3A win. Terek Crosby tallied 14 points and Austin Matthews scored 10 for the Cougars (16-4, 9-1) who are currently sitting in second place a half-game behind Washington. Ayden Cunningham and Trey McGowan both had 12 points for the Highlanders (13-8, 4-7).
Jeannette 63 Springdale 50
Jeannette went on a 17-4 run in the second quarter and went on to a 63-50 victory at Springdale in a Section 3-2A game. Markus McGowan and Noah Sanders each put in 12 points to pace the Jayhawks (13-7, 8-3). Mason Gent scored a game-high 20 points for the Dynamos (14-7, 5-6).
