The 24th annual Southmoreland Christmas Classic Wrestling Tournament crowned 13 champions Thursday at Southmoreland High School.

There were two falls in the championship bouts as United's Josef Garshnick pinned Steven Willis of Corry just 29 seconds into the 127 pound final and Rowan Holmes of Somerset pinned River Valley's Chase Stuchal at the 48-second mark in the 215 pound bout.

Two Derry Area freshmen captured titles both winning by major decision. Mason Horwat scored a 16-4 victory over Ryan Kredel of Freedom at 145 pounds and Brady Brown secured an 8-0 win against Bishop Carroll's Jake Layhue at 189.

Mount Pleasant's Jamison Poklembo (152) and Dylan Pitzer (285) also won championships.

Matt Savitz of Corry was chosen as the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. He won the 172-pound title defeating Valley's Charles Perkins by decision 6-3. Savitz registered three pins in the tournament.

Corry took the team title totaling 200.5 points over the two-day tournament. United came in second place at 171.5 followed by Somerset (152), Derry (136) and Plum (131) to round out the top five. Mount Pleasant finished in seventh place scoring 113 points.
