Bushy Run legion disqualified from national tournament

Despite winning the Pennsylvania legion baseball crown last week, the season is over for Bushy Run. The team was disqualified from the Mid-Atlantic Tournament, which is slated to commence on Wednesday, due to a paperwork issue. Bushy Run players who were 18 or older did not meet the deadline for clearances forms that were required for the national tournament. With those players ineligible, Bushy Run does not have enough players to compete. Although Beavers manager Scott Peyman appealed the initial ruling by the Pennsylvania American Legion Director of Activities Lewis Jones, the verdict was upheld. Bushy Run claimed a 1-0 victory against Stars and Strikes last Wednesday at McDowell High School in Erie to reign supreme in the state tournament. Thus, the Beavers conclude their historic campaign with a mark of 26-7-1.

Teams are able to begin scrimmages on Aug. 16, while Aug. 22 marks Week Zero games for squads that choose to participate. The other fall sport to commence early is golf, as boys and girls teams can practice today, while Thursday marks the first play date.
