Westmoreland County high school wrestling match recaps from Wednesday, January 3rd 2024:

Greater Latrobe 48 Hempfield Area 24

Five Greater Latrobe Wildcats collected pins in the Wildcats 48-24 triumph at home against Hempfield Area in Section 4-AAA. Luke Willochell (121), Jacob Braun (127), Lucas Braun (145), Hunter Snyder (172) and Cody Krall (215) pinned their opponents for the Wildcats (4-2, 2-0). Dom Woods (133) and Eli Carr (152) won by fall while Logan Williams (139) and Pierce Turner (160) by decision for the Spartans (2-5, 1-1).

Penn-Trafford 38 Thomas Jefferson 33

Penn-Trafford raced out to a 27-3 advantage and held on to secure a 38-33 win over Thomas Jefferson in a Section 3-AAA match. Earning falls were Luke DeSantis (121), Cael Ott (139), and Tasso Whipple (189) for the Warriors (3-8, 1-1). Whipple's pin came in the second period against Trent Miller. Logan Matrisch scored a technical fall 17-2 over Gavin Pollock at 152 pounds and Logan Ventura defeated Liam Oberdorff by decision, 9-7, at 133.

Southmoreland 59 Yough 15

Four Southmoreland wrestlers secured falls as the Scotties won big against Yough 59-15 in Section 2-AA action. Picking up the pins were Landyn Queer (127), Ethan Kenney (189), Kaden Shannon (215) and Jake Govern (285). Landon Delara won by tech fall at 160 pounds for the Scotties (5-3, 2-1). Rocco Zugai and Bryce Harvey collected pins at 121 and 172 pounds respectively for the Cougars (1-5, 1-1).
