Westmoreland County girls basketball results from Thursday January 6, 2022:

Penn-Trafford 51 Pine-Richland 35       WATCH BROADCAST

Penn-Trafford went on a 12-4 run to finish the game and secure a Section 1-6A victory over visiting Pine-Richland. Maura Suman tallied 14 points for the Warriors (4-5, 2-2) while teammate Olivia Pepple finished with 12 points and Lillian Palladino put in 10.

Belle Vernon 49 Ligonier Valley 41

Jenna Dawson scored 15 points to help lead Belle Vernon to a 49-41 victory at Ligonier Valley in a Section 3-4A tussle. In addition to Dawson, Viva Kreis and Presleigh Colditz each tallied 10 points for the first place Leopards (8-2, 4-0). Haley Boyd came in with a game-high 17 points for the Rams (0-9, 0-3) with teammate Madison Marinchak adding 10.

Norwin 47 North Hills 11

Norwin built a 28-3 advantage at halftime and never looked back, cruising to a 47-11 win at North Hills in Section 1-6A action. Brianna Zajicek and Alyssa Laukus both collected 10 points to pace the Knights (6-2, 3-1) who play at non-section Upper St. Clair on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Mount Lebanon 55 Hempfield Area 17

Hempfield Area was outscored 30-4 in the second quarter and dropped a Section 2-6A battle at Mount Lebanon 55-17. Brooke McCoy had eight points and was the high-scorer for the Spartans (1-9, 0-4).

Kiski Area 38 Fox Chapel 31

Kiski Area held a 24-18 scoring edge in the second half and topped Fox Chapel 38-31 in a Section 2-5A contest. Abbie Johns poured in a game-high 23 points for the Cavaliers (5-5, 1-2).

Greater Latrobe 57 Franklin Regional 29

Greater Latrobe sprinted out to a 19-4 lead through the first quarter en route to a 57-29 Section 4-5A win over visiting Franklin Regional. Elle Snyder's 25 points carried the Wildcats (6-2, 2-0) while teammate Emma Blair chipped in with 13 points. Angelina Brush came in with seven points for the Panthers (4-5, 1-2).

Elizabeth Forward 53 Yough 41

Autumn Matthews poured in 21 points for Yough but it wasn't enough as the Cougars dropped a Section 3-4A match up at home to Elizabeth Forward 53-41. The Warriors held an 18-10 lead through the first quarter and were in front 29-18 at the halftime break. In addition to Matthews, Laney Gerdich tossed in 10 points for the Cougars (3-8, 1-3).

Deer Lakes 61 Burrell 40

Burrell fell behind quickly in the first quarter and couldn't dig itself out of the early hole in a 61-40 loss at Deer Lakes in Section 1-4A play. The Buccaneers trailed 16-4 through the first eight minutes of the game plus were outscored 12-5 in the final quarter. Hope Clark racked up 14 points to lead Burrell (1-9, 1-3).

Freeport 48 Derry Area 27

Derry Area was outscored in every quarter in a Section 1-4A loss at Freeport. The Trojans were down by just one point, 7-6, after one but trailed 14-8 at halftime and 29-16 through three. Tiana Moracco scored 15 points for Derry Area (4-5, 1-3).

Southmoreland 61 West Mifflin 32

After being upset by Belle Vernon earlier this week, Southmoreland has quickly won two straight games including a 61-32 triumph over West Mifflin in Section 3-4A. The Scotties erected a 22-9 first quarter lead. Delaynie Morvosh and Maddie Moore scored 22 and 20 points respectively for Southmoreland (7-2, 2-1). Olivia Cernuto ended with 10.

Springdale 39 Jeannette 13

Jeannette remains winless on the season, losing a Section 4-2A contest at Springdale 39-13.
