Elena Jenkins scored in the 74th minute to break a scoreless tie and Burrell was unable to get the equalizer in the final six-plus minutes as Freeport captured the WPIAL 2A championship winning 1-0 at Highmark Stadium Saturday.

It's the first WPIAL title in program history for the Yellowjackets.

The eighth-seeded Bucs, who lost to Quaker Valley in last year's final, were also searching for their first ever district crown.

On the winning tally, Jenkins took a serve in from Cam Woods while Burrell goalkeeper Leah Waldsmith came out to challenge. Before Waldsmith could get to the ball, however, Jenkins booted it into the back of the net on a right-footed strike.

No. 2 seed Freeport held a 16-9 shot advantage in the contest while Waldsmith made several sparkling saves for Burrell.

The Yellowjackets (18-1-0) will host Fort LeBoeuf, the No. 2 seed out of District 10, in the first round of the PIAA playoffs on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Buccaneers (12-7-2) will meet the No. 1 seed out of District 10, Cathedral Prep, at Hagerty Family Events Center in Erie at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
